  1. Eagle Scout's Appalachian Trail thru-hike is about more than testing Scouting skills. Matthew and David, two scouts from Troop 505 in Austin, Texas are nearing the halfway point of their Great Appalachain Trail Expedition.   2. My troop is looking into doing a two to three day backpacking trip in New England. We are a fairly new troop and this will be the first backpacking trip done by any of our scouts. One of our ideas is finding a trail where we could hike about 10 miles then camp for the night and would like to pre-park our troops trailer near the campsite with food and supplies. We would still be having the scouts backpack carrying gear and tents. Are there any recommendations in New England? Where in New England have other troops gone backpacking? Thank you in advance.
  3. There was some discussion in another thread about portable AEDs only 2.5 pounds in weight. However, I'm not sure if that includes a dry blanket or other nonconducting insulation. (Lots of places around here would require some distance to "clear".) Of course backpackers tend to be miserly in with weight. So, chances are it won't be carried unless the group is large enough for load balancing. Furthermore, making sure that the person with that component of the first aid kit is near the person who will need it is a non-trivial challenge.
