SueM In reading over the posts regarding the Silver Beaver Pin your friend sent you, I do agree with Eamonn about the honor of the Silver Beaver Award being bestowed upon one. I wear the Silver Beaver Knot on my uniform and at special occasions, do wear the medal and ribbon, but I have never even taken the pin out of the box. On our courses, the Troop Guides sign off on the ticket as quickly as they can after receiving all the final information from the canidate. They then call the Course Director and either mail or fax or scan and e-mail the ticket cover sheet to the CD. Then the Certificate is printed and framed and put together with the Woggle, Neckerchief and beads and we wait until the canidate picks a date for their beading. An old troop I was involved in took all the old ribons and strung them on the sides of the ceiling of the scout room with some of the old troop flags (our district has changed and the council has changed the troop number over the years, ie: 109, 409, 609). The display was inpresive as the scouts and parents could see the history in front of them, instead of trying to look over 60 or 70 ribons. Dancin

I think you are looking at it wrong. The former CD has the right to say he or she won't set aside the fourth bead. That is their right. If they would like to work on the 21st Century Course, then they would have to set aside a fourth bead. It is their choice. When I went to Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge and Boy Scout Leader Wood Badge, I didn't see any 4 beaders other then the CD on the course. I know for sure, that in my BSWB there was at least one other 4 beader and he was wearing three beads. Dancin

FScouter, In answer to your question, what this means is: 1. A prior CD before 21st Century WB would have to staff as a Troop Guide, and also hold an additional optional position (ie.) QM, Scribe, ASM, etc. and meet all the other requirements to serve as a 21st Century Course Director. This would mean that they would have to be a three beader until they were picked as a Course Director and received their 4th bead the day before the course started. The only 4 beaders on a 21st Century Course would be the current Course Director and/or a mentor, if the council exec and council

Not to mess up the song any, but in answer to the patrol question, under the 2005 Administration Guide for 21st Century Wood Badge, the only patrols you can use are: Beaver, Bobwhite, Eagle, Fox, Owl, Bear, Buffalo, and Antelope in that order. Since a course is limited to 48 participants with 6 to a patrol (that is so each participant can be a patrol leader one day) if you have under 48, you still put 6 in each patrol and the last patrol would have over or under (ie: 5 or 7) Hope this helps, Now!! E, I don't know if you read my first post correctly! You can go back on staff, even though you have been a course director for the 21st Century Wood Badge. If in your council or cluster, there is not a sufficient number of qualified people to staff a course, you can be asked to work a course. For that course, you would wear three beads until the course was over. Most likely, you wouldn't be a troop guide as you can't serve as a course director again, but can serve as an optional staffer (ie) Asst. QM, ASPL, Asst. This is just my thought, but by working a 21st Century ticket and creating a vision and goals and working toward meeting that vision by accomplishing the goals, a person would understand the 21st Century Wood Badge Ticket and would be a more capable Troop Guide to help future participants understand their vision and goals. I would think that anyone who staffed a course would want to give their best to the patrol they're working with and the understanding of the ticket process and the vision and goals would accomplish that. I just came back from the Course Directors Conference and thought I'd share the changes involving the course. The first day until noon is dedicated to Cub Scouting with a Blue and Gold Banquet held at lunch and crossover after that. As of 12/31/06 if you have not staffed or gone to a 21st Century Wood Badge course, the only way you can staff is to give up your beads, take a 21st Century course, work a ticket and earn your beads. I am preparing to go to my Course Directors Conference in October and I know there have been some changes to the syllabus and will find them out when I go. In reading posts about the courses run in 2005, it seems that there were no changes in the syllabus this year. The syllabus out right now, states that Venture Youth should be used in the course to do the Leave No Trace campsite and can use that campsite as their own while they are on course. They can also be used for doing the round robin problem solving sessions and can help in playing the games. They would stay about a day and a half

I think we all have to realize something. What the Scout did was at the National Jamboree, not in his home troop. The Jamboree Scoutmaster gave his the punishment he thought was right. It's water over the dam. In our peinal system when a criminal does his time, then that crime is not to be held against him. What the Scout did was wrong, but he was punished and served his time. The home troop should let it go. Maybe the Scoutmaster should have a talk with him, but that would be up to the Scoutmaster and should be between the Scoutmaster and the Scout. Dancin

Troop 1113 is as follows: Ravens Black Hawks Untouchables Thor The Patrol box for the leaders has four distinct sides, the front is maize and blue with a big M, the back is black and gold with a Michigan Tech Huskie on it, one side is maroon and gold with a flying C for the Central Michigan Chippewas, and the last side is black with a ball and chain that says "Hard Times Cafe" for the DOC Asst Scoutmaster.
