  1. Well I did not say you have to talk about it all the time, or even mention it all. Venturing needs to come out with a program guide. You know a resource for an Advisor or Crew President to use.
  2. Venturing as a program is only about 6 years old. New as it is, it drinks out of a deep well of Tradition the 5 most traditional clusters of the Pre 1998 Exploring BSA program are at its heart. When I mention traditional terms concerning Venturing and refer to the Pre 98 Exploring program I do so in a way to reflect on a program that worked then and is working now, Not just to be deja-vu but to show what worked once can work again. If we will read the Venturing literature we will see that the heart of Exploring did not leave Venturing. Now I do realize that this is 2004 and these are today's
  3. SZelenskei I have read your post concerning the restoration of the Air Scout Program I like it and I believe it can be done, there are however some obtstacles that have to be addressed before you can go ahead and do this #1.Aviation Exploring in Learning For Life a BSA Subsidiary there may be some resistance there. 2. Civil Air Patrol a USAF auxiliary and a chartering partner with BSA and LFL sometimes CAP Cadet squadrons are chartered as Aviation Explorer Posts, and sometimes they are chartered as Venturing crews. But I do know what you mean, If you have the crews that are interested in tryin
  4. Any information on Explorer Service Teams for small councils with only a small number of Posts. LFL district is here but does not seem very popular, any helpful hints.
  5. How many Sea Scout Ships are a traditional naval style ship with uniforms and a truly seamanship, nautical style program. How many other ships are just sailing, motor boating, and just do that and do not worry too much about the uniforms, etc? And how many do the sail boat racing program?
  6. Florida Scout, That's great the one Venturer who was never a scout joined your troop, do you think that Venturing had an influence on him joining the Troop? So Venturing can be somewhat of a preview for people with no scouting background to join a troop at an older age, hopefully prior to 18 so they can earn badges and advancements. Good luck to the new scout ala Venturer.
  7. OGE Thanks for the information.Your crew sure does do some very interesting activities. I especially like the idea of the urban adventure and the mystery and the etiquette dinners. Thanks again
  8. OGE what is an Etiquette Dinner? Is your crew co-ed and if so how did the girls react going to Cabela's. Reason why I ask is that Cabela's was suggested in the crew I am UC of and there was not that much of a reaction from the girls in the crew. Thanks again
  9. Does anyone know where I can obtain more of a History of Exploring BSA from the beginning to the 1998 start of Venturing and the transfer of Career Awareness Exploring and Vocational Exploring to Learning for Life. I usually contact Senior Scout Programs Overview but I would like to get something on Exploring in one volume. Does anyone know where I could get anything llike old manuals, books, patches or anything about the Exploring Division BSA, now Venturing.
  10. What specialty is your crew? I know a the majority of crews are Outdoor specialty, but how many are Sea Scouts, Arts and Hobbies, Sports and Relgious Life? Please let me know a little about your crew program.
  11. Rover Scout I would like to thank you for the information that you presented here to us concerning your crew and the Rover Scout Program. My intention is to introduce an interesting side specialty to outdoor Venturing crews to help keep their interests. Bob is right about one thing though and that is if a Venturing crew has a problem keeping youth interested then that is a problem with leadership. I do agree with that statement. However my intention is to keep Venturing traditional and I realize that we can do that without a Rover Program, But I feel that we need to put a little more of BP bac
  12. Eagle 1984 : Maybe bring this issue up to the attention of the Crew Committee Chair, first is the offending Venturer related to him/her? If this Venturer is related to the advisor he may be reluctant to see what is wrong. Also if bringing this incident up to the Crew Committee, then try the chartering organization. It is the chartering organization's crew really. Also mention it to a Unit Commissioner if there is one for the crew. Hope this information helps good luck.
  13. Has anyone experienced camping at or volunteering in a Venturing Camp?
  14. In the scouthouse that the crew I work with has a book shelf with all kinds of scout books, most of them fairly old, and this includes Boy Scout manuals, merit badge books etc, and Cub Scout books and manuals etc. Good resources
  15. canoeing, sailing, bridge building, ski-ing, camping, backpacking, orineteering, a crew dance, venturing olympics, model railroading, scuba, rockclimbing, rapelling, and many more, Venturing is all about fun. being done now, been done for years.
  16. Bob and Eamonn You are right fun is the main ingredient in Venturing if a crew has a fun program then that's all that matters. Also many words acronyms are just the title or program they call something. But let me say this Eamonn you were saying about a Venturing crew building a bridge that came out of a 1969 English scout book, doesn't that prove one thing something old can be used again. No matter what we call it. The crew that I work with is going to do scuba this year at Sea Base they have done it before, they enjoy it, also after that they are doing a beach trip they have don
  17. I only hit submit once, and I referred this to Scouter Network and did not get a response. to answer Eaamon I do not mention much of the old Exploring program to youth, Many of the Venturers know about it anyway. Many of these programs are still going they may just use a new name or new terminology. Some of the old programs are just a part of history. I was just referring to what I notice about some Venturers is that they have a lack of spirit. Maybe they are not having fun in the program but I don't believe it is because of Venturing Adult Leaders talking about the old Explorer program I thin
  18. well here is the old pain again. and why do I bring up old programs that have fell by the way side, because what is old is new again. Look at the entire Venturing program the awards that are around date back to the 1950's look it up read the history of Venturing even as new as this program is look up what is new in Venturing there is even talk of restoring the Exploring Olympics of the 1970's and just calling them the Venturing Olympics, there is a new medal that is called Quest and it is a sports cluster medal there is a book that is for that medal and that program. There is a Ranger Handbo
  19. what is CAW an old acronym for Exploring (pre-98) Compass, Anchor Wings, Compass -outdoor Anchor-sea Wings-air, could this acronym still be used today?
  20. Does anyone remember the Red, White, and Blue divisions of the Sea Exploring program and are they in the Sea Scout Program today?
  21. Can Sea Scouts organize their Ship program around careers?
  22. In my research a while back I noticed that on Sea Scout site there was a article titled Venturing Honor Societies I noticed too that there were 3 entries on this one was a suggestion written in 1995 by a group of Sea Explorers(95) now Sea Scouts it was for an Order of the Trident, this is OA like but it has some different ideas, the other is The Corps Of Discovery somewhat like the Lewis and Clark idea and a crew could adjust as it likes for it's own use. The other is a Member of the Year idea and this would be where a Venturer would be selected from his/her crew or ship and serve in that posi
  23. Bob Thanks for checking that site, I have checked the site myself and maybe I thought that Rovering would be a good choice for a specialty for a Venturing crew to use, because of the similarities, you are right in what you say about all what Venturing has and all what Rover Scouts has in their program. I was looking at it as a more different program that I thought had potential. There are the UK and International Rovering Programs also on the Dan Beard site there was a link to download and print a Rovering magazine and other things. Maybe I am not seeing basics here. Ok. But I feel that V
