Doesn't the scout have to be a member while completing MB and/or eagle project? If he has been inactive for three years....was he on the roster? Doesn't he need approval by the SM before he starts a MB? Our SM is the only one that hands out the blue cards.

Camping Distance for Adults

Was just a joke...my real comment was the one prior. I found that my son actually preferred being in his OWN tent, rather than bunking with another scout. Some may simply believe that they have to bunk with another...and they would prefer their parent over another boy. Not sure if this is the issue, but maybe? -
I have heard of people discussing the same committee for both the boy troop and the girl troop. This makes the institutional knowledge easier to set up a girl troop, which would be welcome...if there are volunteers. The troop is going to be much more of a logistical issue than a cub scout pack!

My daughter is in GSA....no plans to quit. We have a watered-down troop. Hardly meets. That is simply what works for these girls now that they are all 6th graders in middle school. They are, however, doing the minimum requirements, and they are doing them fully. I have already expressed interest in taking on a committee position next year in our council....I was told that they need to work on the cub scout program first. I think being involved in both of my kids troops is doable, but only as a committee member. I prefer an active role there, rather than as ASM/SM. I presume, howeve

Also, you could just tell them that they will considered as "Webelos 3" until they are in their own tent -

I would coordinate with the feeder packs....encourage the DL to equip the scouts with their own test for a Christmas gift....or maybe a "crossing over" gift. If the younger boys coming up into the troop are more comfortable running solo, it surely sets the proper expectation for all boy scouts! Also, the DL should encourage the parents of the AOL den to start sleeping in separate tents...even if they are 1' away. -

scouter-committee moms do not run the troop alone. I'm sure they will realize the error of their ways and were half-joking/half-wishing. -
And yet, there is absolutely no way that we are allowing only those with demonstrated proficiency with basic weaponry to use/bear arms. That is where you and I will have to disagree.

They are scouts though.....just like Venturers are scouts. They are not "venturer scouts", but they are Venturers, which are scouts. Just semantics to me. -

They should just keep it as BSA....its a historical name and means something. Nothing wrong with that. I know a jew Jewish females that have membership in the YMCA. I don't see anyone having an issue with that. I'm going to predict the older girl program will be "Girl Guides" as a homage to the international girls. If they just throw a label out there, people will calm down. And I can't imagine that they won't have a troop formed in 1/2019 with a few older/interested girls to accept girls crossing over in the February-April timeframe. I would hope so. And yet the constitution does refer to well-regulated, and regulations are rules. We abide by them. Companies abide by them. But apparently, we don't want to regulate here regardless of what the constitution says.

Agree....besides, I've always thought "youth" represent more boys than girls, even though the term is considered genderless. I suppose I keep hearing in my head John Pesci saying "the two yoots" when referring to two 18-20 year old boys -

If you look for a specific packs, the results now show whether they are: Dens for Boys or Girls Boy Pack Example is Portland area. So, obviously, many COs have already committed (at least initially) to the affiliation that they wish to sponsor. Now, will there be enough interest for an all-girls pack? Doubtful. Girls have less issue with being near boys, while boys sometimes don't want to be near girls. https://beascout.scouting.org/BeAScoutMap.aspx -
Concerns with coed rules, leadership, liability
JustAScoutMom replied to Jameson76's topic in Issues & Politics
New here....loved the thread so far. I think Oregon (and west coast in general) is an anomaly. You won't see this prevalence of co-ed'ing east of Nevada. I bet 5:1 boys:girls weeks on the eastern scout camps.
