Correct it is not a new concept. I was advisor for a coed Explorer post in the early 80's. We were chartered as High Adventure. It was what would now be Ventures I suppose. This was before YPT etc, but we did need a female over 21 for outings if the girls wanted to attend. That was an ongoing challenge. This was before I got married (actually getting married was not a help to my camping efforts) and I burned through some girlfriends when I asked them to go camping with us.

We already have reports from early adopters that some "Girls' den" and the "Boys' den" ideas is not working and that the two dens are doing "joint" activities.

Like it or not, it is what the program is now.
Not disagreeing with that sentiment. The pushback I would give is that the changes are literally all top down, and we (in the trenches volunteers) are just expected to embrace these and keep on keeping on. At this point my involvement is for the Boy Scout troop, nothing more. I guess we all have our own lines in the sand with regards to the Boy Scouts and what is the straw that breaks the camels back. Not sure when I personally get there.

If the GSUSA had promoted their Gold Award half as effectively as they've marketed Thin Mints and Do-Si-Do's we wouldn't be having this conversation.
They were not able to figure out how to monetize the Gold Award...GSUSA - We're the capitalists in your town ®

Venturing - "I'm a Venturer", "I participate in Venturing", "I have a Venturing meeting" - OK, not sure about that last one
I'd Venture to say that's right

If they are forced to accept girls in their troop, then I will be an ally in your resistance but that is not the current state of BSA.

I was wondering about that. I see our troop flag almost every week but it has been awhile since I actually read it.
Ours (looked at a photo) seems to say Troop XXX and then the fleur-de-lis with BSA on it in the middle, CO and town noted

Now it appears that there will be one program, "Scouts BSA." Will there still be separate TROOPS? I see no mention of that in the press release. And if there are, unfortunately that does get back to what things are called. If a CO has a boy troop and a girl troop, will they have the same number? Will they be Troop123B and 123G? (Or "M" and "F"?) I agree that names are not the most important thing, but I do hope there is going to be more clarity on this from National.
Now you are getting into the mysterious "Linked Troops" netherworld.
You can have the same CO, apparently same unit number, same committee, meet at the same time, go on the same outings BUT it is not co-ed

If the name is Scouts BSA, then what does the 'S" in BSA stand for ? don't want to be redundant

As far as our CO is concerned, they don't really care what we do. They barely take any interest in the Pack and Troop as it is, we could probably tell them we want to start a new Scout group consisting of llamas and hedgehogs and they'd just say, "Sure, whatever."
If BSA National could get folks to pony up $33 per llama and hedgehog they would be all in
I would assume there would be a llama troop and a hedgehog troop, they could share the same CO and same committee, different Zoo keepers, and they would be "linked" units. These would fall under BSA (Barnyard Scouts of America) and the new program effort that all mammals can become an Eagle. Not a literal Eagle, not like that NBC show manimal. Honestly being an Eagle may scare the hedgehogs as Eagles no doubt see them as lunch.

Saw this on USSSP facebook:
We have been giving the "high sign" to inform all of you of a significant national announcement TOMORROW (2 May 2018) around 10am Central Time (11am ET/8am PT) concerning the future of the Boy Scouts of America and in particular about our young youth program (called Cub Scouts) and our middle aged youth program (which will have a new name revealed tomorrow morning). Those volunteers and professionals who attended the previews for this national event are excited to share the infomation but we've been embargoed to say very little more than "the details are coming..."
So I'm looking forward to this and I'll be able to personally "cash in" some bets with folks....
The announcement, from what we've been told, will be aired over commerical TV, on YouTube(tm), and shared over ALL of the BSA's social media outlets. We at the USSSP will follow the BSA's announcement to assist with program consistancy and support -- and honestly we can't wait to help the BSA to get the words outward in support of this.
So, stay tuned and thanks for your support to the USSSP over all of this time!!
(Mike Walton/Settummanque)
In a serious ponder....
Wonder if this will be the move to actual coed (new slide deck a-coming) as the National has decided that the "Linked" foolishness was in fact foolishness. They are maybe planning to double down on the new movement as "thousands" come to join up

It's Tuesday and apparently there was a survey and the survey was of people (families) that are not involved in the Boy Scouts of America at this time (in fact some do not even live on this planet much less this particular dimensional plane) but they were overwhelming supportive of and interested in possibly becoming involved with an organization that perhaps was not named Boy Scouts of America and then there was a vote of the National Board of the currently named Boy Scouts of America and the vote was 123.2% in favor of possibly changing the name to something else (sadly Dallas Cowboys, Manchester United, and New York Yankees were already taken) and the hope is that the new name will generate a tremendous amount of revenue what with merchandising and knick knack sales that will help support the underfunded pension liabilities and balloon payments for the currently named Summit Bechtel Reserve and drive hundreds of thousands more youth and adults to join the newly renamed and rebranded organization

Additional updates (from various FB groups). Nothing too exciting, but the various volunteers are indicating much more info should be available over the next few weeks (after NEXT connect meetings & BSA nationals in May).
- Some Venturing girls have written to BSA as they now realize that they will be too old for Eagle Scout. As of now, some parents/leaders have indicated BSA is pushing back on any exemption. (I agree with BSA on this).
- Minimum number of youth to start a unit remains 5 ... so far no indication that will change.
Good news on the exemption pushback. The timing unfortunately may not work for everyone, which sort of is what it is. If BSA was to try some sort of convoluted exemption matrix it would be a Highway to Hell paved with good intentions. Good they are holding firm on that front (at this time)
Good news on the number of youth to start a unit. Actually 5 is thin, as part of BSA program is working in groups and interaction. Good they are holding firm on that front (at this time)

Well, to be slightly sexist, I think women Den Leaders will have more problem with Scout led than do male Den Leaders.

But it may be considered a Webelos Den Camp Out. Again WHO KNOWS???????????????? (caps for emphasis, not shouting at you. )
Back when dinosaurs ruled the earth and you had to have Tour Permits, our go to was that the invited Webelos were in fact guests there of their own volition and we did not include them on our tour permit. Also as it was voluntary and not a planned den (Web patrol) and they were family camping so from the pack side, no tour permit
As for the YPT and girls on a troop visitation, not 100% sure. Can Dad bring them without Mom? Can a Dad bring his son and girl from the Webelos Den without a Mom? Does it have to be a mom? It is a good point and as the apparent new rules dictate that the female YPT trained over 21 leader must also be CM / ACM or (in addition??) DL / ADL not sure if that particular person would need to be there also?
I will break out my YPT playbook ready wrist reference so as to be vigilant and compliant

You may want to double check on that. My understanding from all the stuff I am seeing regarding YPT2 is that a registered female Scouter over 21 must camp when girls camp, parents do not count.
Not disagreeing, but as they are not registered with the troop and are there as guests??? It is not a Pack outing. Lord who knows.....
