Whatever you should decide on, retrofit the MSR(?) in-line prefilter and try to use a coffee filter around the inlet to postpone the inevitable filter core blockage. I'd like a longer inlet hose than most come with as well. In use, one has to be alomst religious about keeping the dirty inlet plumbing separate from the clean outlet pieces - or you're wasting your time and bad things can occur

Our Troop has a couple of MSRs that are about 5 years old; they work alright (not a terrible amount of usage) and aren't too tricky for the boys to light. Pretty good control as well. And I've got a Coleman Peak 1 that works pretty well; more user friendly and good control.

Isn't life a bit too precious to waste the time that it takes to post this sort of material?

Trailer practice is best done without witnesses - using your own vehicle... Kinda like teaching your son to drive First time I had to park one in the mud was a new experience Poor fellow still has straw down!

Kind of a fine line regarding depth of instruction, and while I don't counsel these particular MBs: I end up reading the MB pamphlet word by word at times to make sure that much depth beyond it is at the Scout's discretion and not because I'm getting excited about the subject. Remember that we're talking about an introduction and overview of a subject and not working toward mastery at a professional level Although you'll note that the MB books are written at a pretty wide variety of levels into various subjects! YMMV...

To the point Sleeper, CampMor sells generic waist belts and shoulder strap sets that you might find useful Although when I priced adding them to my old Yucca pack/Explorer frame combination was pretty close to a decent new one Maybe bolt parbell plates to it for training or whatever... Sigh

Seems like the available tow vehicles would narrow the selection down pretty quickly. Even a single axle trailer is happier behind something full-sized rather than a smaller SUV. And not all of your potential drivers for the trailer rig will benefit from a batch of excited noisy youngsters in the cab either! And lastly, I'd be careful about the relative experience of those pulling that trailer. Deceptively simple until something goes wrong...

Good ideas redfeather I found some light nylon material with peel-off adhesive on one side at our local sporting goods store - pretty good stuff for patching things, sew it on when you get home. I like to pack an extra hip belt buckle for the group, it rides within the frame and disappears. I also have some dental floss and a couple of heavy needles stashed away for sewing big (usually critical) stuff Keep this going folks!

Sounds like a good opportunity for a Patrol-based activity...

I think the concept that you're dancing around in the most delicate of manners is MONOPOLY... You'll note that these pricing fluctuations happen more and more quickly (technology in action!) and with even more flimsy reasons. Make sure there's some petroleum stock in your 401k and just clench your teeth - be glad we don't live in California

We use that 6 mil 'clear' plastic, roughly cut it to size and just fold it under itself to fit. Simple and works fine, can be a little unwieldy in cold weather and don't even try to dry it out laying on the lawn (solar-powered condensation and all that) And not such a good idea to roll them in with the tent... Lately we've been using those 6x8 blue/brown/green tarps with our Eureka '4-man' tents; every Scout has one ($3) and again just fold any excess under. Also gives you an extra for lining the inside in bad weather. Also keeps things handy for covering firewood, pack line etc. Also p

Sounds like you're heading toward some off-season work; you could find a whole new world... You might end up in a unique position and discover some special opportunities working outside of your Crew (probably won't hurt that bunch either - you'll need staffers and help in general and even the older kids still like to shoot things) Thought you were busy before? Camp School will feel a little funny when you're surrounded by youngsters(!) that are heading toward the senior summer camp staff positions, and you'll likely see a flock of teachers in there as well. a pretty good bunch of folks

All that's been said sounds good, but having watched a couple of treasurers over the years (thankfully avoiding that job!) must insert the idea that this position can heavily burden your most dedicated person much less an SMs wife / temporarily single parent / military spouse. Perhaps the Committee could consider an Associate Treasurer to handle Scout accounts or fundraisers? Offers an automatic oversight function also... Might be a spot to fill with one of your older Scouts? While this can be more trouble than its worth in a small unit, there's a lot to handle and making things easier f
