  1. @BetterWithCheddar require " parents to volunteer a certain number of hours" Sounds better than why one reason Packs and Troops go out of business - We are in a drop and run game.
  2. I'm sure there is a Paul Harvey "rest of the story" here somewhere. Who does the CO report to? These are all part of the need to have more direct oversight of their units that they CO is being told to make sure are being done to "protect" them a.k.a liability from being sued into oblivion. Some of this language is in these new agreements. The only one I see as being a stretch is the SM going through the CO. Where is the Committee Chair in this equation? The SM works for the CC.
  3. @yknotYep. I'm sure there are others but since I started this post none of the NY or MA ones were posted. I heard of some individual Parishes when the UMC issue was posted.
  4. Anyone hear of the final number of attendees?
  5. @Eagle94-A1Amen. Sometimes I wonder if the scouting professionals take the same course as politicians. @MattRContinue to flourish in spite of his Leadership? 🤨 Interesting that most of the Diocese in this topic are from the Wisconsin and Illinois area. Also wonder how many youth are affected?
  6. @TuckahoeJoe My friend is in a unit around Harrisburg but I don't know which one other than he said they are still going to recharter. I wonder how much the increase is. They look like that the insurance company definition of "promoting scouting" meant "as long as you pay us" @DeaconLance I think you are absolutely right....easy to drop scouts using liability as an excuse. Probably just looking for a way out. Curious if you know how much the increase was and how much the additional cost is?
  7. "our dissatisfaction with the BSA’s cooperation on the issue, " Wonder what that means?
  8. How about this: As we have seen on the forum Councils are giving National a "salute" on this already. Rules? we don't need no stinkin rules. Rules and Regulations - Local Council Annual Registration or Program Fees Under the Rules and Regulations of the BSA, a local council may charge an annual registration or program fee to youth members, adult program participants and Scouters whose primary registration is with the council in an amount not to exceed the amount of the applicable individual registration fee for their position established by the Executive Committee. In the new Ann
  9. @james6 not a cynic….direct knowledge of the appeal.
  10. The National fee will be the least of your problem. The usury extra fees that councils will add on with impunity as we have heard on the forums will likely drive more out of the program.
  11. A volunteer panel reviews and make the recommendation. I’ve seen it take one to twelve months. Never seen ,, although I guess it has happened, the scout turned down because it is always the fault of the adults even it there is clear evidence that the scout did not actually do the requirements.
  12. No it means National has no power over councils. 🤨
  13. Did I miss a policy change? My understanding is that councils cannot add a council fee greater than the BSA registration fee currently $75.
  14. @AwakeEnergyScouter Where was/is your scouting experience where you had mixed gender troops? I'm sure RichardB could explain the legal reasons the BSA chose to have gender separate troops as the author of the Guide to Safe Scouting This bankruptcy the BSA has gone through has required many YP changes for summer camping and just recently the change that all leaders must be in a paid BSA position.
  15. @Jameson76 about 1/3 of councils have less than 1500 scouts, many less than 1000. Not sure how they survive to operate today.
  16. Hence the BS FOS calculation of we need $100 to support one scout (some places it's twice that). If the BSA recruited 196K cubs last year then where did they go in 3 months? Not to get myself in trouble but I notice that the overwhelming majority of the Eagle girls I see pictures of have full MB sashes. In my 20 years of our troop I can only remember one boy who even had a sash 3/4 full as they were busy running their troop and going camping etc. Always makes me wonder how integrated they were in troop operations. Okay I'll shut up.
  17. The overall numbers are interesting but a 23% drop in 3 months is concerning. Peeling back the numbers would tell a story: How many new scouts joined Packs at recharter? What is the breakdown by category? Is the number of AOL scouts dropping which is bad news for the troops in 2024? How many AOL scouts crossed over and are in the Troop's number? How many scouts aged out of SBSA? How many aged out of Crews? How many of these are Scout reach or whatever they are called? How many units dropped as that number is almost as significant as the youth number?
  18. A number of councils have instituted an additional fee per youth not to exceed the national registration amount. This is to guarantee they will get what they could not convince parents to do FOS. Councils wonder why their FOS is basically non existent from units. DUH. The parents view the extra fee as FOS of course. It is sad to watch FOS chairman beg for units to do presentations.
  19. A bit of history...the current EP workbook was borne out of reviewers jerking scouts around because they didn't have enough detail. Remember it was just a blank sheet of paper. Scouts had up to 8 reviews before approval and some just gave up. BSA Advancement said enough of this stupidity and we (and I helped) wrote the GTA and EP documents. Are there still boneheads who jerk scouts around - absolutely unfortunately. So...The Proposal-Final Plan (now Project plan)- Project report was started to give the scout more structure on what they needed to consider as this is the first time the
  20. @InquisitiveScouter I forgot my 😉 emoji on my first statement.
  21. Cub Camping is one night because of the huge file national has on how many injuries there are on the 2nd night. The issue here is how many council sponsored camping events do councils actually do and provide resources for so 2 nights can be had? Let's all not laugh too hard. My council friend says his council camp won't even book one night events. JMHO.
  22. Most MBs can be found like you did for Welding If your talking about MBs that you buy equipment for after the badge then Archery, Rifle Shotgun - if you buy your own equipment Backpacking - lots of $ more equipment Cycling - fancy bikes Dog Care -Woof Fishing/Fly Fishing - Walk into Bass Pro Golf Horsemanship Kayaking/Canoeing/Rowing/Motorboating/Small Boat Sailing Water Sports/Snow Sports/Whitewater Scuba But remember scouting is cheaper than any other youth group. 😁
  23. PM me. I might have the what you are looking for Instructional Overview (September 2020) Online & Virtual Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops
