  1. Did the requirement change when this scout was going for life or eagle?? Or did any one check his book before they signed it?? I am not blaming the scout but some one should have caught this problem.
  2. How can a Scoutmaster or the Board of Review miss the merit badge count???? Either the scout has the merit badges or not??? I was looking at the requirement for Star and it says; earn 6 merit badges, including 4 required for Eagle. For Life; Earn 5 more merit badges (so that you have 11 in all), including any 3 more from the Eagle. Did they count Emergency Prep and Lifesaving or Swimming, Hiking or Cycling merit badges as required?? From what I understand if you count Emergency Prep as a required merit badge you can not count Lifesaving as required but you it as part of the total. T
  3. After reading the "postes", where was the scoutmaster and the members of the board of review??? They where the ones who should have caught the problem?? BT
  4. The district that I am involved with has a joint meeting for about 15 -30 minutes, then breakouts for Cubs and Boy Scouts. Some times, depending on the topic it may be joint.
  5. Quixote, Some times, the leaders have to tell or inform the parents more than once about the paperwork. I do a lot of hiking and camping and the general public does note know that it is not a walk in the park.
  6. Quixote If it was Summer Camp (BSA) or a camping trip any and very adult should have a physical. If some thing goes wrong and he/she cannot speak, they can get medial treatment. His son not tested as a swimmer??? Plan a troop activate at pool so everyone can be tested as a swimmer. At the same time everyone can be working for there second and first class swimming requirement.
  7. Have your son go!! He will have a safe and wonderful adventure at Philmont. Hazards???? There might be more hazards in Central Park in New York City.
  8. The troop can set their own attendance standards for there rank advancement. The troop that I am involved asks the scout to attend 50% of the meetings and activities. Most of them attend 75 % of the meetings. And most of the other activities. The attendance standards can be diffent form one troop to another. Is there a written policy from National??? I have not seen or heard of it but that does not mean any thing.
  9. I have not seen any thing in writing but it may be one or two years in lenth. Or in some councils tell you can get a replacement. BT
  10. It can be a variety of things. It can Scouting for Food, Library Fair, Adopt a Highway, Trail Work on rail trails or on County or State hiking trails (there is no Federal land).
  11. A wagon for a "backpacking trip??? I believe that the wagon should have stayed at home. I see that there could be several options for this trip. One was to leave the wagon at home or in the car??? Could you put the wagon's contacts in every one pack? Or the trip should have had a base camp or a dump camp. It sounds like that not everyone had agreat time. BT
  12. Age requirement for a Den Chief??? The hardest thing is to find one. If you have one try to hold onto to him.
  13. Featherswillfly, It sounds like AOL does not want to be reasonable for there part. Did you show the school the information on Youth Protection? That information should be soon to all the school districts in the USA. If you use your computer for the internet, I would keep all the important material about yourself off of it. Once the person has the information about you; they can do any thing to you. BT
  14. Well, I do not consider the Pledge of Allegiance as a pray. I am also not a "word smith", would they be happy if or under god's, or under gods', or just under gods???? I just say level it the way it is -- under god.
  15. I would not have any first year campers take hiking merit badge.(if they are 11 years old). Have then do something more at there age group. Have them go for some of the more easier merit badges. If they want to go for a required merit badge; have them take swimming or first aid.
  16. I believe that the Federal Appeals court made a mistake by declaring the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional.   18. At any level of Scouting (Cub, Boy and Venturing) it is the program that draws in the youth to Boy Scouts. As adults we should help deliver the program to them. If you are at the local unit, district or council level the goal is the same. If you have a good or outstanding program you should have a health unit. If you are at the unit level, our goal should always be to provide scouting program to as many boys as possible. If your unit is growing, then we are delivering the program.   19. Is the Distric/Council trying to become a Quality District or Council?? If they are they have to show grow in units andmin members.
