  1. I always hate to hear of a fallen scout. Being a leader, I assume he may had a son with him. My prayers are with his family, friends and troop.
  2. Thanks for the feedback guys. In the end, I think he's just glad to help out. I'd say we'll probably go with the registered years. We're just glad to have him aboard.
  3. You can always buy a whole new uniform if you can afford it. It will save the time of taking off the old patches plus it will be a cool keepsake. I still have my old Cub Scout uniform from 30 years ago.
  4. Welcome to Boy Scouts, it's one of the best things you'll ever do.
  5. I agree. And honestly, I don't think it really matters for him, he's never been big on self recognition, he just loves Scouting and loves helping out.
  6. I personally have no problem with this. I'd say that it will generate a lot of revenue.
  7. Ok so the leaders in my Troop have been debating an issue for a while. We have a new leader in the Troop. He first joined Scouts in 1986. He was an active youth until he turned 18. Then was a very active leader and Scoutmaster he eventually stopped being an active dues paying member about 15 years ago when he moved out of state. He has however never stopped being associated with scouting or helping out. His nephew in our troop and he has been a real help to us for a while now. Occasionally he would go on some campouts and outings, help with merit badges and courts of honor. He has alway
  8. While I agree that some things shouldn't be sold on ebay, I can't really be too upset about this. I collect patches and sometimes the only way you can get them is from ebay. I don't have the whole set of the centennial rank patches and I'd love to get it. Honestly, I'll probably go to ebay to do it.
  9. There are so many discontinued knots or custom/spoof knots out there. I collect them, you'd be surprised the variety that are out there.

    OA ?????

Once you are a member, you are always a member. You obviously have to pay dues to be an active member, but you don't have to go through an Ordeal or anything to rejoin.
  11. I really hope it isn't. OA is probably my favorite part of Scouting. It's definitely lost some of it's visibility. It seems that the only time that regular Scouts seem to see OA is when they do elections once a year and then at the call out ceremony. Some of my best Scouting memories are from OA, it will always be special to me.
  12. I always thought that was ridiculous personally. I was a firearms instructor for a while, I think it's important for scouts to learn firearms safety and use. It's always been a part of scouting, hopefully it always will be.
  13. Glad to have found this site. I joined as a Bear in Cub Scouts in 1986 and haven't stopped since. Scouting has always been a part of my family, glad to find a site like this.
