  1. Oh it happens. Seen it as both a scout and a scouter. I'm not saying this is the case in your situation, but do not rule out intimidation as a reason why he was elected....
  2. YPT states that you have to take it at Face Value. So have any kids reported it, at any time? YPT also states that something must be done, and if you have parents (even if one said something, they all know) then there is an issue that needs to be dealt with NOW. Nobody wants to be accused of doing nothing about correcting a problem. If the CC, SM, this scout and his father sat down and had a neutral conversation (Have you seen anything, do you know of anyone, etc...) maybe that would work better than accusing him of bullying, given lack of evidence. Or, get the whole troop together a
  3. He is doing fine. No real shock there, and if he enjoys scouts and is having fun, that's all you really want. I turned in all my Eagle paperwork and had my EBOR just a week before my 18th birthday. It's not because I was unmotivated, I was just having too much fun and enjoying scouting in the interim. Each scout chooses his own path.....
  4. Someone at the district level or council level does not deny an ECOH. They have nothing to do with them. The issue is at your troop level. Your SM is lying to you, plain and simple. And if he told you why HE is denying the troop the be involved he or someone at your unit is at fault.
  5. Anyone have a tip on a good product or homemade mix to seal up an old Eureka canvas tent?
  6. ok, so i have 2 in "pending unit email" how can i move them to "completed"?
  7. How do you keep costs down in your unit? Other than fundraising, how are you good stewards of the money you do have? We do several things. For new families, we offer a used uniform program. This year, we kept the cost at $30. It included all insignia, belt and shirt. New this cost would have been just under $60 brand new. In years past I was able to offer neckers too, not this time around though. Also, we purchase a uniform (used) for all den leaders. This saves the den leader money from their own pocket. During neckercheif ceremonies, I use donated or used neckers. Wha
  8. Did you ask? This was 20 years ago when we had them. Never hurts to ask....
  9. Platform tent at all? Fan is a good item. A big box one. And you asked, so here goes..... Television, video games, alarm clock (not your phone) milk crates to stack stuff on and make shelves, laundry detergent, something to drink other than water (cuz you will get sick of water) About the tv and video games, you will teach kids (and know it all adults) all day. You will get stressed, you need something to unwind. That's your outlet. That's what we did when I was on staff. We had wood platform frames with a canvas tent over it. Not sure what you have....
  10. Does the facility you are staying in have electricity?
  11. Oh ya? If something official comes down, then thats one thing. I don't trust anything from up top. That guy in the video probably has no idea what he's talking about (heard his BS before) Paper ACM if I have to... but I will try to resist. Not that I am sexist because my wife is a DL, but the policy is asinine (if it comes to pass)
  12. One of my son's just became a Webelos I last night, and he will be in blues probably until he crosses over to a troop. If we gets too big for his blue then we will get a tan. My Webelos den parents are doing the same.... just a marketing ploy I won't follow along with, no matter what National says.
  13. I can use a clippers, and what music do you like?
  14. I think there are too many troops that do not do this, and that's the biggest problem.
  15. I would think kids visualize better when they can see on a big poster, rather than on a small Scoutbook screen.
  16. We are in state. Last time was $8, must have gone up. Still, $10 is a steal.
  17. Peninsula, Point Beach, Kohler-Andrae, Blue Mounds, Kettle Moraine North and South. If you can get into Peninsula you would not be dissappointed. Not sure how far you are willing to drive or where u are coming from.
  18. Good to know that they work. Thanks!
  19. Ouch. Well, did anyone ever ask if there was a scout rate? I had to ask for it.
  20. I'm biased, but I suggest camping in Wisconsin 😁 Seriously, the State Parks and Forest Group sites are around $8 a night if u are a scout group, and they are nice large sites. Just have to ask when making a rez.
  21. Anybody use them, and are they effective in getting scouts excited to advance and attend more often?
  22. For sure. Been there, done the above, and the results happened. We are a small pack, and nothing wrong with that. Kids are not a number and the parents realize this. Get parents involved, think outside the box for pack events (don't have boring run of the mill meetings) Get outside! Families join scouting because of the outside aspect. Don't let them down! Ask parents to do specific things, blanket "I need help" statements rarely work. Its a long road, but its worth it.
  23. Just trying to give my new leaders a leg up. I know I have at least 2 new ones this fall, and that's not counting any girl dens that may form. Working hard to reverse a lot of leadership issues that have plauged my pack in the past before I was involved. I have excellent parent involvement and looking to build on that.
  24. It worked. For some reason they never showed in my work email (not in spam or anything), but when I used my personal email it did. Crisis averted! I was under the impression that only adult applications needed to be approved by the COR, and the unit leader can approve youth. Am I correct?
