I've never met a scouting unit that requires the scouts to wear a Class A while on an outdoor activity, other than for a formal parade or flag presentation.

Son's Troop is doing just that tomorrow. Outdoor service project for a business. Class A's will let any lookie-loos know its Scouts and not a bunch of boys messing around on private property.  Being proud of their uniforms makes it an ever easier call. 😉

Please explain why you would want to prevent a youth from having the opportunity to learn to be a good person and good citizen, sound in mind and body solely because they were not a registered member of Scouts  BSA.  Thank you.

Since we're answering for one another...

TAHAWK, surely you've read enough of Jameson76's posts on this forum to realize he would not imply such.

    😒

Rank requirements on this subject are clear.

  3. Mash, any reason to think this could be anything other than a one time thing? If the Scout has been in the Troop for a while (?) and there's no track record of this kind of behavior from the parents, your decision is logical. Clearly defining your expectations going forward is smart. And if those expectations are not met, there's plenty of good suggestions here. I personally like @MattR's.

When it comes to athletic endeavors? Maybe your Scouts and Scouters are above average athletically, and certainly some of mine are, but plenty of them are not. Hence, average.

Sentinel, this is likely true for all Troops across America.

I like to think (foolishly?)we as Scouts and Scouters are collectively better than average.

    Average is not good enough.

    Higher expectations for the win.

For better or for worse, Scouting is going to reflect the average of society.

This sentence struck a chord with me because I fear it may be the current reality.

I like to think (foolishly?)we as Scouts and Scouters are collectively better than average.
