  1. I don't believe its "competitive" enough, my troop which I have expressed on many occasions are extremely lazy however my son's troop is very active and camps monthly along with actually having scheduled PLC meetings that are NOT on the same night as a regular meeting which adds a level of commitment in my eyes.

Thanks @JasonG172. Any chance you know the replacement cost of the plastic height-locks?

'cause I'm pretty sure I can jury rig something in a pinch out someone's tick-picker. ;)

LOL that I do not sir, but at this cost I am ok with ditching to buy another if need be.  So far these poles have lasted 4 campouts and in two of those campouts there were some pretty good winds.

  3. I got frustrated with popups, one because of their price and two because of their life.  So I started thinking about "back in the day"

lol you can still see the small popup but the huge tarp was a life saver this particular weekend because it rained all weekend.  NOW I have tested other alternatives which are much lighter than the (pioneering pole) you see in this pic.

Basspro has two type of telescoping poles and actually the cheaper one is better.

  4. I always do my welcoming at Parent Orientations.  If a parent is serious and they sign their child up most of the time I can sniff them out, this past year i had 3 come up to me before I even ask and said they wanted to help.  I have been very fortunate the past 2 years in the pack.

  5. Our Council has "Resident Camp" at our Council Camp in Hardy Arkansas Camp KiaKima (best camp ever lol) Cub from Wolves up to Web II Stay 3 days at camp.  If you go to that it counts for June, We have a Pack Meeting in June where we will launch rockets or well do Raingutter Regatta. July we have either / or (only attend 1) a Red Birds Baseball game or our Pack Meetings Ice Cream Social.  In August we have a car wash Fundraiser and or Fishing Rodeo.  That's what we do, if you cant make one then make the other.

In speaking with a DE we mentioned maybe a $20 increase, and he sort of shrugged and said or maybe more.....

I round ours up to 34$, lol I like whole numbers haha.  I really hope no more than $20, I don't want to see more than $10 but noone has asked me.

Myself, 14 year old and now my new Lion, it would most certainly make me start considering what to do. I agree YES it is still much cheaper than other sporting activities in our area but we also have on going events (campouts, summer camps) that figure in to our "yearly" expenses which I promise would exceed those other programs.

My pack camps almost every other month, the troop camps every month. Average cost of event for the Pack $12ea, for the troop $25ea

It blows me away how we always play MORE for less lol.  I wanted a one man but wasn't going to pay $200.00 + for one.

I purchased the Alps Mystic 1.5 (not the outfitter) Weight 3 lbs, 14 oz  with floor saver and it has served me well for 5+ years.  Got it from HikersDirect for about $120.00

I have also abandoned the idea of taking my own tent.

I am buying the Osprey 60 Aether, waiting for a sale fist.  Bag will be a Kelty Galactic 30 w lightweight liner

I'm curious of how many scouts use hammocks. Most of the hammock users in our troop were adults. Scouts tried them out for an hour, but never got motivated to use them.

Its increased quite a bit in our area so much so that our ranger (for our woodbadge conservation project) made a hammock garden at an existing campsite.
