  1. Day 2 has come to a close. I feel less mentally exhausted as I write this than I did last night. It was nice today not having to perform the service patrol functions on top of the rest of the requirements that that were tasked to us. We have a game plan for our project, and our menus are planned for the next weekend go-round. As of right now I have 4 of my 5 ticket items written up, with one already approved. Hope to have the rest finished/approved by the time we leave tomorrow (hope to have my 5th item written by breakfast) Goodnight all
  2. My brain is less mushy so far today, but I'll get back to you at lights out! The diversity and inclusion presentation very much clarified what my diversity ticket item will be. At leas the idea I want to go with. Lunch is over, time to go mull tickets back at our patrol site. Peace
  3. I've got some ideas for my submission on my day as patrol scribe, as far as tents, we actually are staying in bunks. Forecasted temps are actually supposed to be in the -20F range. With that being said, we do have a staffer, assistant scoutmaster of logistics, that has slept outside under the stars each night....my hat goes off to him as he's a tougher man than I!
  4. Oh, even though it was the first part of this mornings activities....the Cub Scout portion of the course seems like it was months ago....lol
  5. Finally the end of day 1 has come. As you may have read in my post earlier, I am a fox!! We were fortunate enough to be service patrol today. So besides everything else going on today we had to keep the bathrooms clean, shovel the sidewalks, and among other tasks we felt needed to be done cleaned the dining hall after meals. Toss in all the leadership training modules and everything else that's been tossed at us and I'm bushed. It's one of those good types of bushed though. Anyhoo I'm out, we have to be up at 0600 to be sure the sidewalks are shoveled off before reveille Day 2 tomorro
  6. Here we are, the eve of my training! 3 of us from my district are here, in a neighboring council! So excited I can't fall asleep. 7am will be here before I know it
  7. Has anyone used OurGroupOnline? it is a "generic" version of troopwebhost but has a template for Cub Scouts? We are currently in our free trial period. I like everything about it so far except for the advancement tracking. Perhaps I just need to figure out how to make it work for us, but otherwise I love all the options it gives us.
  8. TO ME it would be different if the guy was profiting off the work of others. Its highly unlikely the boys know anything "illegal" is happening. They are just there for a good time. in the end its about the boys and if the boys have fun that's the end goal!
  9. I don't see this as any different than going a couple miles per hour over the posted speed limit......but that's just me. I'm about as far from Hollywood as one can get. lol
  10. the Ham radio idea is a good one! I might line something up like that for my pack. I was introduced to ham radio as a scout at a district camporee. It has taken me a while, but I am now finally studying to get my ham license becuase of how cool i thought it was back in my scouting days. The camporee happened to be when a hurricane was hitting the southeast part of the country, and we made contact with someone in one of the carolinas and got to ask about the conditions. Fortunatley the fella we talked to was 100 miles off the coast and wasn't too impacted by the storm.
  11. are we talking physical exhaustion, mental exhaustion, or both?
  12. After we complete our budget, combined with how much money we have leftover from the previous year, we set the average cost of what it will take to fund the year for every scout, the budget includes every scout going to winter camp, cub resident camp, and day camp. (rarely do we get more than 6-7 scouts to attend camps) Any scout selling whatever that average ends up being or more in popcorn sales, earns a free trip to camp (not free, but paid for by the pack). the last couple years that number has been $500-$600. What is leftover (from those not going to camp, etc) is what we use for our
  13. Really? that's an interesting idea? do you get many people to watch them? Could be an interesting idea to propose to my district. any chance there are any videos I could see as an example? not particularly new program related, just to get an idea of how you guys run it?
  14. The good news with that is, so far, everything I have used at roundtalbes regarding the new program, is stuff found on the program updates pages. Through my district comissioner I get it a little earlier than when its been posted on the updates page, but its the same stuff. so, while not ideal, the information is there for you, you just have to decipher it and relay it on your own behalf. Keep pluggin' along, and stay tuned here. I don't claim to be an expert on the new program changes, but I feel so far I have a pretty good grasp on it. And what I don't know, i would bet there are ot
  15. from everything I have gathered, the best place going forward to get the most comprehensive information regarding the changes should be your Roundtables. for example, (in my district at least) our february Cub Scout breakout session will be discussing the new adventure based advancement models. March - Program Planning information April - Pack/Den Meeting Plans May - Aquatic Adventures June - Campfire Programs July - Resources for Packs and Dens
  16. all 3 sessions were pretty similar, the LDS ones had a few different questions directly related to LDS oddities. otherwise it was basically a review of all the information already out on the program updates page of scouting.org. nothing really new
  17. T Minus 10 minutes away from this! who's with me!
  18. what type of "hands on" learning are you looking for? I would think if you can get us a better idea, we could come up with something? Perhaps take one of the sample den meeting plans from the program updates page and stage a mock den meeting perhaps?
  19. it has happened to me as well, i had a moderately long response typed up to a post, i got that message and lost it all. I gave up and never did give my response.
  20. :Dso, since I first posted this topic right around the time I registered, I went from being excited about basically re-living my experience as a boy scout to being excited about the leadership skills I will learn! We are just over a month out......it can't come fast enough...........
