  1. I posted this last post merely tongue in cheek after I saw that registration is open! I'm not even going to Jambo. Just like reading about it. Once my cub scout gets of age, I'd like to see him go though.
  2. How about now? http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2015/05/28/2017-national-jamboree-registration-now-open-for-staff-and-attendees/
  3. they are worth the price IMO though. Much more in depth and layed out step by step than the old ones....Plus you don't need to go to multiple books for all the resource information
  4. for as much fanfare as national had given this program back in january, sure seemed pretty anti climactic now that June 1 is here.....kinda surprised there wasn't anything done to celebrate it.
  5. This is very intriguing news. Coming from a unit chartered by a veterans service organization, it should not make much of a difference to us. But I'm not blind to what consequences could be for units with CO's objecting of this.
  6. Our Council Headquarters is about 4 hours north of Sioux falls on I29. However, its a separate council, so I too cannot answer your question.
  7. I believe some of the replies may have been axed with the migration to the new forum? As I do remember posting a reply as to what the bomb hole was.
  8. I should add, the 5th one is a joint effort with our affiliated Troop, incorporating Den Chiefs into the den (SM attended WB with me, and we are both using this as a goal!) if all goes as planned, they should be installed by the start of den meetings as well.
  9. Well nearly 2 months out of the practical phase of WoodBadge, I'm 2/5ths of the way done with my ticket. Will have the 3rd done june 2nd. The final one is an event scheduled for august. So.......hope to have them all completed by the time our Den meetings take off in the fall!
  10. Proud fox here.....but its not my turn yet, so I'll leave it at that
  11. looking at what I have looked at so far. I'm much more excited about this program than the previous program. The way everything is laid out, and all the resources included with each meeting plan will be much nicer for our den leaders. I agree that coordinating when a den needs to complete a requirement by doing something at a pack meeting, or having to help another den will take some work to figure out, but in the end i think it'll work out. for us at least. However we are a pack of about 20-25 boys total. I can't speak for those of you with 60-70+ kids. my hats off to you
  12. Our district has been previewing as much of this as we could since December/January as well. I agree with Eagle94. All of our volunteers have been begging for information since February. Luckily for my pack I have pieced enough information together between what information has been given to try fill programming needs through the summer.
  13. the only registration fees we charge are the $24 fee from National. We do charge for camps and other outings, but that's on an event by event basis. Scouts that sell XXXX amount of popcorn get their summer camp fee covered though. XXXX changes each year depending on the number of kids selling, and what our starting budget numbers are.
  14. You mean #Cubchat? @WarroadPack151 here!
  15. My Council is offering this next weekend, I would have liked to have attended, but I have too many things on my plate right now. Time to start saying no to some things, if only for now
  16. Back at it! Got back to camp, had some fellowship with some others that came early and now hitting the hay. We meet at the bomb hole bright and early!
  17. 4 days until our trek back to Gilwell to finish up the course!

    Recruitment

I bet if you re-evaluated your summer events/activities, you would be surprised at your spring recruitment success. Maybe not, but it works for us!

    Recruitment

Do you not run a year round program? In my unit summer does not mean slowing down, summer means outdoor fun. The type of fun that keeps the spring kindergarten recruits around. We were able to recruit 11 kindergartners at spring recruitment (1/3 of the available boys in our kindergarten class....pretty good IMO) compared to 5 scouts in the fall recruitment event.
  20. well just arrived home from the first weekend! all I can say is WOW! probably one of the most influential experiences I've had in my personal or scouting lives so far. lots of info crammed into my brain in a short amount of time. I am excited to find out over the period of the next days, months, (or even years?) where this info that was learned will poke its head out again. Our troop guide encouraged us to get our ticket items written and approved before we left this week due to his personal time commitments, or lack thereof between now and the next weekend we meet in march. He didn't wa
