  1. You have to keep at it on all fronts.  Emails via school, direct asks by parents when you see them at other school/sport functions, get your scout to give you a list of his friends he wants to have in scouting, contact parents directly and find families in the younger grades.  You also recruite the kindergartner parents during the year.    It takes several times to get people to a Join Night.  But then you are NOT done.  You keep Recruiting.  ALL YEAR.

I have been out of the Pack 3 years now, and I am still recruiting for them and others.

  2. It started on Twitter several years ago and migrated to Linkedin and now it's on Facebook for a few years.  They are also on Instagram.  It is every year.  I have been taking part for many years.  It is a lot of fun.  I actually conversed for a few years with the person who was coordinating it on Social Media for awhile.  Nice guy.

As to why the BSA does not advertise it....Have not a clue.  I know that the Montana Council has a Event listed on their FB page.

  3. Sounds like the Shooting Sports Committee Chair needs to call National and get clarification.
As to hold shooting events at Shooting areas...yes, that is true.  But not for Cubscouts as indicated earlier.
While this forum is good to get ideas, it is not good for official rulings.  I would call National directly if your local Council cannot clarify.  And by local Council, I also include the volunteer that chairs that specific committee since they can find the answer quickly through their conections.

  4. BB Gun and Archery can only be done at Council or District sanctioned events with proper guidence.  It has nothing to do with the Beltloops going away.  This has never changed. (I know that this is listed elsewhere, but this was the first hit when I Googled it.)

Q: What shooting programs can Cub Scouts participate in?
A: Cub Scouts can shoot BB-gun rifles, slingshots, and archery in a council or district event, but not at a unit event. Catapults can be used during a unit-organized event.

  5. It is not about the CC and the Adults.  It is about the Scouts.  The CC is in charge of the Committee and helping the Troop do what it wants to do that is run by the PLC.  If you have a large Troop, you will get those Scouts who know the soon to be Eagle Scout and go help/celebrate him as needed.

An Eagle Project is part of Leadership and how he shows it.  This is just another barrier that will happen in real life.  It is not something that the CC can dictate.

Again, the CC is out of bounds and needs to conform his schedule to the Troop or take another position elsewhere.

  6. The only reason to stick with the old program is if your Scout is now going for the Arrow of Light.  That and LDS.  If you want Beltloops, GO BUY THEM NOW.  They are not getting re-stocked and once they are out, it's done.

  7. You can print them off once your Charter clears on my.scouting.org.  They are all there.   You can print them off for all the Adults/Youth in the Unit.  I carry mine around because some stores will give you a discount if you are a Scout.

  8. Your Den Plan for activities so the Scouts can earn their Rank should be planned and communicated to the Scouts and Parents.  There are so many electives that  they should choose what they want to do.  This is what they will be doing in Boyscouts soon.  You need to explain to the Scouts/Parents that while you work on these electives, that you the WDL needs to sign off on the requirement when complete.  Meaning, they need to show what is done.  Just like in Boyscouts.

I do not have a problem with Scouts working on items.  I would just like to know what they are doing and how fun it was.

  9. If the Tiger Den goes camping, it's not BSA approved as you have already found out. It is a bunch of families getting together to go camping. Nothing during this time will count towards any requirements within the Cubscout program. If you have such a hard time with the Council Summercamp programs, I would highly suggest talking to the Cubscout Camping Professional and see how they can help you and listen to your issues.

I suspect that when the Wolf Summer Camp comes around you will again have the same issue as the Tiger year. Then again for Bear, Webelos and into Boy Scouts.....

  10. A Scout Unit should identify and ask a person to join the staff of that unit in the capcity of what is needed. An Adult can ask to join, but the Scout Unit does not need to accept/turn in that application. So, it is not just immediate. Plus the Application needs to specify what position.

You do not need to be registered to be on a BOR.

As to Camping....Having parents show-up on a Campout because they want to go starts looking like a Family Campout. That is not the reason Boy Scouts started. I would restrict who goes on Campouts to only ASMs. MCs can go, but they are usually the drivers.

Parents can help out on Unit activities as needed. I would enforce YPT be taken so they know the rules.

Again, the CC and Unit Leader should pick and choose who is on staff. Generally the COR has no clue as what is going on in a Unit and they just sign the paper that is in front of them.

  11. Go to a state park. Bring a tent. Pitch it. Get a bag. Chop up veggies, bacon add Eggs. Shake well. Boil water. Put bag in water. Cook till down. Baggie omlettes. Sing songs, tell stories, roast marshmellows. sleep. Get up and eat oatmeal. done. That's a campout with cooking. Do not over think this.
