  1. We used a sleeping bag liner for the cover. I think the younger you are, the easier you sleep 🙂
  2. It depends on the boat and the captain. Not many places to hang a hammock on a boat.
  3. It's a brand new day, ready to do some good turns!

  4. Agreed about the SM minute idea. When merit badges are taught by someone who is passionate about the topic they are well done, even if they talk a lot. They find the topic interesting, they aren't reading from a book, and they are animated. That enthusiasm translates to the boys. When it is someone not passionate about the topic it is dry and boring. At least most of the time. And yes free time is important, having a bag of games or balls in the trailer are an important team building tool.
  5. Y'all is two or under and All Y'all is 3 or more. Also All Y'all seems to be more imposing.
  6. I think the Boys need more fun and less classroom type work. Meetings and Merit Badge classes are boring. They can be fun, but we regulate to much out of what they can't do. I would like to see the boys better presented with the end goals and working through fun and different ways to get there. There always seems to be a person telling them they need to follow and teach it a boring way. My son is looking at Sea Scouts mainly because the local ships allow the youth to focus on what is fun and then help them gain advancement as a side effect. I hate the rank of Eagle, because the pa
  7. Sounds like a scout should only use it if they are trained on the use and the weight ratio. Some of our 13 year olds are bigger and stronger than me, some of our 14 year olds are sub 100 pounds.
  8. sorry........ I am shocked. I have only seen our scouts with the utmost respect for these tools when using them.
  9. As the Pasteur of our chartered organization put it very nicely. "Any youth that wants to scout should be welcomed with open arms, The Bible is about love.". While I am Jewish myself, I don't see how I can argue with him about the meaning of the Bible.
  10. IMHO, wagons (4 wheeled) are about as safe as they can be. Very little tipping risk and would alleviate the risk of carrying too heavy of a load or dangerous. I would allow use of wagons at any age as long as weight ratio is maintained. Something like the weight of the wagon and load shall not be greater than the person pulling it. For the Wheelbarrow, I would be willing to make the cutoff at the Boy Scout level, and again with a weight restriction of the load. We trust them with an Axe as long as they use it safely, a wheelbarrow is a tool that can be used properly or improperly.
  11. I hope you will return. I took some time away from the computer working on an Eagle projects and it helped me realize what matters. And this forum doesn't rank high on real priorities.
  12. It is crazy.... Soon they will have to sit in personal bubbles.
  13. Yes ask for help. You can't say advertise for them, but they are donate equipment and put a picture up at there place showing they support you. No problem.
  14. OK, helping out on an Eagle project today. The new SM announces that the guide to safe scouting says you need to be 14 to use a wheelbarrow or wagon. We let them use knives but they can't use a wheelbarrow? Is that the stupidest rule you have heard of?
  15. Feel better now? I found the ignore user feature, enjoy your life.
  16. Fair enough, but neither being a liberal or conservative have anything to do with this. I am confident, there are liberals and conservatives that are on both sides of this debate. I vowed to support all the youth.
  17. Frankly, I see nothing wrong with boys joining and following the girl scout program. You are attempting to pin me to a liberal when you know absolutely nothing about me. What would you like to know about me before you start making generalizations about me? Am I a liberal because I am Jewish? Am I a liberal because I thinks girls should be allowed to scout? You like to label people and attack those who disagree with you. I respect that you feel differently about girls in scouting but I will not allow you to bring me down to that level. Frankly, I don't understand why you are stick
  18. Having boy troops and girl troops are separate with the same program. Everyone has their panties up in a wad that how dare girls be allowed to do the same things as boys. everywhere else in the world except for places like Saudi Arabia have integrated programs. Not so long ago, people said the same statements about races and religions. I am Jewish, and believe it our not as a youth I was denied access to youth programs. Why didn't I do Jewish youth programs you ask? Well, we were a minority and none of that was available. As an adult, I refuse to be the one to deny a child from pu
  19. I seem to remember a time when there were others we felt shouldn't be in the program or worse. Discrimination throughout history has always been proven wrong by the test of time.
  20. We use the application Remind. It sends texts to everyone in the troop. There is no one way that will work for everyone,
  21. I talked at length with a skipper of another Ship today. He mentioned that, and said that they will help remind the boys that they can still do this. I was surprised, when he told me the camp too. I thought they only did activities on the water.
