  1. Well i think this my first new post in over a year. Adult women in the OA does not disrupt the program in the least. Some of the best advisers in my lodge have been women. Now as for girls being admitted, that is a different story, and hopefully one we will never have to deal with.

  2. Well first off, Ockanickon is sort of over rated but thats just my opinion. Sinoquipe is in PA not MD and i only remember it because of my 1st year expereince there. I honestly cant reccomend it. The walk from your tents to program is far to long, but since i never was able to pick badges there i cant really say much.

If your looking into MD i would say Camp Henson would be a nice selection.

  3. Here is another Scout's perspective on this matter. I am in a unit where our leaders expect us to fill up every spot and get really ticked off at us if they think we are doing anything not related to meirt badges. If we arent doing that we are supposed to be helping with the construction of a "troop gateway..." In my opinion many scout leaders arent aware that in their goal of having their kids get loads of badges they are turning many away from the scouting program. Some parts of the schedule should remain free. Part of summer camp isnt just earning badges but having fun with old and new friends. Also, i dont think some Scouters are aware of how mad or annoyed their scouts get at them. When we have adults constantly pressing us with demands to take some badge or another, it gets very frustrating. Im not saying i dont like to badges. I love it, just some time needs to be kept for doing whatever.

  4. Greetings and welcome to the forum. I believe that the SM probobly feels that your son is to young. I am in a troop where if you are not eagle by 15, some would consider you a failure. But i have a friend in another troop who is in a similair situation. Almost identical actualy. He resolved it in the end but the whole reason his SM wouldnt sign was because he felt my friend was too young to make eagle. I would be willing to bet that this is the reason in your son's case. Good luck to you and him.

  5. Ok, i feel kinda dumb! One night has past and i have already forgotten the answer to the chief's question. If a a fellow Brotherhood member could send it to me though private message, I'd appreciate it. I can describe the ceremony and other stuff to prove that i am a member, if you dont trust me. Thank you.

  6. This kinda goes OT, but Kudu, your 1st post in this thread was very informative and is something i intend to bring to our PLC tonight as a suggestion for better troop input. Sirjimmyg, I am an ASPL from a troop in Virginia, its nice to see other scouts on this forum!

    - A backpacking trip, i highly reccomend. If you have a good trail or mountain in your area, have your SM look into that.

    - Attend at least 2 district camporees in the year.

    - A winter freezoree is always a fun challenge. If you have a merit badge counciler for this badge, it is also a good way to work on the wilderness survival merit badge.

    - This is a fun kind of campout my troop just started doing. If you have any historic battle fields in your area, check with them to see if they allow camping there. It is a great opportunity to have fun and learn alot about American history.

Well thats my 2 cents worth. I pretty much took some of the things my troop plans and elaborated on them. Good luck as SPL.

  7. Thats really a shame to hear about your OA Lodge and chapter. That kind of thing really dissapoints me as i am extremly active in OA Ceremonies...Your idea about the fire that you mentioned a few posts up was very good. That could be very impressive if you organize it well. Again that is a real shame about your lodge, OA crossover ceremonies are about as good as it gets.

  8. the 5th is offred at some summer camps. I'd be willing to bet that the bottom 5 are ones like Truck Transportation, Landscape Architecture, Textile, Pulp & Paper, and vetrianry medicine. I just picked some of the more obscure ones but i dont know anyone who has those ones.

  9. Having served as a Den Chief of a group of kids for the past two years i can say that it is one of Scouting's best features. I am now troop guide for this same group, who have recently become boy scouts. If the kids who are interested in becoming den chiefs then i dont se why the SM should object. I dont know if they need their SM's approval to go through the training but letting him know would be smart because when the den chiefs-2-be advance a rank and use it for leadership then the SM wouldnt be confused. In fact i'm not sure he training is even mandatory but what would i know, i'm just a kid! Becoming a den chief though, is a great opportunity for the scout and the cub scout den.

  10. no offense to you sam but 11 is way to young for eagle. Scouting is about taking the time to enjoy what you are doing. You just cant convince me that you enjoyed doing all that merit badge work or all the hours of service required. I hate to say this but i believe you are what could be a called a "paper" eagle. I am 14 and will reach Life over the summer. I have taken my time and have no doubt that i will make eagle at 15 or 16. But 11!? I do not doubt that you are an excellent scout, dont get me wrong. As you are a lodge chief i have the utmost respect for you. Well congrats on being an Eagle Scout!

  11. I would just like to thank all of those Americans who have served and are currently serving in our armed forces. It is you who make America what it is. When i see the American flag on my shoulder on my Scout uniform i feel a sense of pride that can only come from being an American. Because of our brave men and women who have served and are serving our country, America is truly the greatest country in the world! Thank you service men and women for making America What it is!

  12. nice! reminds me of my ordeal last november. Great memories which i will take with me the rest of my life. I just preformed at my chapter's ordeal. Just being there to greet new members was a wonderful feeling. I hope your son will enjoy the OA's opportunities.
