Hope you find this... I started a thread looking for these types of things for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.. also great way to hold whole library of stuff in one device for campouts..

Okay folks... military Dad here. I just got orders to Shaw AFB, Sumter/Columbia SC. I'm the current Cubmaster in my pack, but I'm not looking to take on that role again...lol (perhaps Den Leader...but also just happy to be a Pack Dad) I'm looking to see if anyone knows of an active Cub Scout pack in the Sumter or Columbia SC area for my son and I. My current pack camps at least 3-4 times a year, has earned Summertime Activity 3 years running, Journey to Excellence (gold) at least the last 2 years, etc. My son just finished his Wolf badge and earned 1 gold/5 silver arrow points at sam

I'm in my 2nd Pack, and was invovled with 2 Scout troops before (1 as a Scout, the other as an ASM) We always had either a trailer or scout-shed. A small room can store a LOT of stuff...and while I have also seen a rise in the theft of Scout Trailers over the recent years...if the Pack/Troop insures it...you will usually be okay. (if the worst was to happen) However, in order: 1) Have a storage room inside the building 2) Have a Scout Shed with lock 3) Trailer (Well Secured, with 2-3 different locking devices and lots of Identifiying marks 4) Storage at a person's home

My biggest issue...and perhaps it's just my issue to work though...is the apparent belief by National that the Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting programs are the same, and there-fore deserve the same recognition. I have always maintained...a Tiger den-Leader has a very different job than a WEBELOS or even a Boy Scout leader...which is why I have always maintained they deserve different recognition. I'm sure this subjec has been brought up somewhere in the Uniform Section...but I'm just curious. How does everyone feel about the changes to the Leader Award Knots which came out a few months back? I've already started to see some issues getting previously awarded knots at the scout office...and I personally don't want to wear a "knot" which I wasn't awarded. Also, there are serious changes to the requirements from the old to the new knots. (i.e. Time requirements almost doubled....)

I tend to agree with everyone else. "Billy" hasn't earned anything. If he actually completed all of the requirements...including his Eagle Project... how did that happen? While this is a very sad situation... I personally think it should be taken up at the State level...possibly even the National. If the boy honestly did all of the work, and he can produce documents and scout leaders willing to testify to it..someone should consider processing the package. I'll try to keep this short: From the Pack - We are giving a plaque. We've also looked at the career Arrow idea..and I've heard of packs which out both... The Den Leaders bought mess-kits for each of the boys making the transition (not all of them finished AoL) The gaining Boy Scout troops are providing neckerchiefs and I believe Scout Books...

I'm laughing because my old scout book is still held together with Silver Duct Tape! Pretty sure I got a new one about 2/3 through scouts...but only really remember using the one with the duct tape. Also: I never kept the blue cards. Our MBC always kept them...I think we were given one piece after we finished, but once the advancement folks had it in the system...we never kept them. Kinda wish I had now, so I could remember who signed off what..

qwazse; Just to clarify my points: I agree with you...the AOL is not the most important point here... But I also wanted to ensure the boy understands...he can't ever go back and finish. Once he crosses.. (when ever that is)... the opportunity is gone for life. The same thing happens for Eagle Scout, and numerous other 'life' opportunities. AOL is often the first time a boy is forced with that decision...to put in the time/effort or walk away. Parents often are able to explain this point to their children better... and sometimes help talk them into the little extra effort

This was a very interesting read...from everyone. Here is my two cents...for all it's worth. A) Is the parent working with the child, and coordinating with the DL, or just signing it off. - No matter how it's being signed off, if there are questions on the authenticity of the information taught/retianed... interview the scout... allow the parent to be there, but ensure he's only allowed to give 2-3 word 'guidance' when you tell him too... In our pack, we don't use it for our program, and if the family intially paid for it, we'll renew it. For my families part: my son and I both love to read 'most' of these.. but not all of them have very good articles. I do believe the magazine does a good job of promoting Scouting, and helps boys stay active in the program...so for that part, I certainly see vale.

I think a lot of this issue will be in how you present the situation. Bottom line however: Has Boy A completed the Arrow of Light requirements? Has Boy B? These are written and required for the program. Now...can more be done for the boy who isn't done? Perhaps....but if he isn't done with the program requirements, I think you've answered your own question. For the boy who is done... tell him congrats and wish him well as he transitions. PS: We had 1 boy move in Dec, while the rest are waiting until Blue & Gold.. and it's possible one or two will be finishing requirmen

BDP00; The leaders are working with a local church, who has a decon who will be teaching the Cub Scouts...and the pastor will be signing off the final completion. We've informed the parents, we're finalizing the total cost of the program (with the church) and now we're just waiting on the families who are interested in attending. So, we're really faciliting the set up with a local church.

Okay Folks, with the more modern digital age, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any free resources for the Kindle Fire? I know they have some for the iPad, but can't find any which have migrated yet. I use "BSA on the Go" for my Android Phone, and its a GREAT App....it has all of the badges and requirements for all of the Scouting programs, etc. I'm sure we all have this type of information out there, and I'd love to be able to keep it light and handy for camping events, etc.
