  1. Okay, I've not tried coloring this, but I suppose you could experiement. Try the following Pork - cut into small cubes and browned potatoes - cut into chunks Great Northern (white) beans - and/or other white beans to taste and Fresh NEW MEXICO green chilies - not the canned stuff (try http://www.buenofoods.com/) you could toss in some posole too (a special corn cooked with lime and dried) salt pepper garlic onions to taste Can you tell this is one of those dishes that is never the same twice? No matter what color you make it would definately be d
  2. Your fuzzy mascot will be welcome in Washington! Send me info at redraccoon@hotmail.com!
  3. I agree, as the ceremonies go away so does the interest. I can understand the concern for "hazing" and boys being tapped too hard. But thats where decent adult supervision should intervene. It shouldn't need a whole policy. My son was tapped out in the traditional manner and for him it was an awesome and memorable experience. We live in Washington state. The boys in our area now are "called out" by OA members after election at a regular troop meeting. Very few of the troops hold the election and then wait for a ceremonies team to come do a special call out. Basically the OA reps t
  4. Thanks to all that inquired. The need has been met by a generous and anonymous scouter. If you're still looking to help a scout in need please contact your local council... I am positive they will tell you how you can. Thanks again.
  5. Hello list. Forgive me for taking advantage of having this quick forum to pass on this info... I know the young man the request is for. He is a great kid who is very active in scouts. He's currently working on finishing up his Eagle project. I know he is doing what he can to help his family and I believe he is quite embarassed to have people looking out for him, but thats what the Scout family does, right?! Please take a minute to read the following. If you have any questions or comments please send them directly to me or Ray Aberle (listed below) rather than posting to the lis
  6. I see no problem with the kids wearing the camo type pants when we're on campouts. They are generally more suitable for rugged wear. The full camo get-up is not encouraged though. And we make it clear - No camo out in public - only regulation uniforms. If the boy doesn't have scout pant then he is allowed to wear suitable dress pants or jeans. I agree that Scout uniforms are very expensive and not well suited to outdoor use.
  7. Havent heard of any loss of Charter sponsors - but per my other posting (Scouts & Discrimination) a Scout from our group was told by SEARS that they have decided not to donate to BSA because of the current policy. (He's working on an Eagle project) Seattle, WA
  8. Merlyn_LeRoy - You are comparing apples to oranges. The membership criteria is right up front. Duty to God - your choice of a God, whether it be mine "or a tree"... Tolerance of different types of religion IS promoted. Your commment "Well, I guess you'd have no problem with public schools running "no Jews" youth groups either" is completely inappropriate to Scouting philosophy. Would YOU have a problem with the schools NOT discriminating against child abusers and other criminals? How about groups that promote hatred?
  9. I orginally posted this in the open forum, but perhaps it would be more appropriate here. Scouts & Discrimination Posted: Tuesday, February 20, 2001: 5:19:36 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I dont know if this is a national policy or not, but I thought Id share the info with the rest of you.... 10. I dont know if this is a national policy or not, but I thought Id share the info with the rest of you.... Today a Scout from our local troop went to Sears to inquire about a donation for his Eagle Project. The manager of the Sears store told him that because of the current discrimination issues Sears is no longer making donations to Boy Scouts. I love my Craftsman tools...but this gives me pause about doing further business with Sears. Anyone else been turned away for similar requests and reasons - where and why?
  11. I am forwarding this message for a Life Scout. Please respond directly to me. I will pass on the information: Hi, I am trying to build a playground for my church for my Eagle project. My church is very small and has no funds for a playground. I thought it would be a good project since the church also has a low income preschool and right now the kids don't have any outdoor area to play. I am looking for ideas from anyone and everywhere so I don't have to spend too much on buying a kit or a big project plan. I was someone might be able to share plans that they have used in the pas
