  1. A committee member sent me the following email today. "We want to know if you are getting accident waivers or are required to get them for the outings and if you have them on file for the last day-hike?" I had a parent permission slip as the council office said I did not need a local tour permit since we would not be leaving the county. Any one ever come across issues like this? Aren't the boys covered by the Scout insurance that council has us pay for at registration?
  2. Neat idea. I like the keeper of the fire. This Muppet is 11 years old actully has a sleeping bag and back pack. The boys are wild about him. His counterpart indicated that he'd love to come camping with the Troop etc. That "Dan" would love it his alter ego really gets into the part. One of the boys found a small Scout shirt sz 12 at a thrift store for the Muppet. I think we should do it. "Dan's" alter ego said she would be happy to register him/her if need be.
  3. Our new Troop recently participated in a cultural awareness program that involved a puppet/muppet show. In which the characters puppet/muppets were children of different ethinic orgins. The Scouts loved it and the puppet/muppeters really get into thier parts. In fact, one of the puppet/muppets asked the boys what he needed to do tho join the Troop. The boys all loved this and decided at the PLC that they wanted to have this one puppet/muppet join the Troop as an actual Scout mascot. Is this possiable?
  4. I guess I'm going to have to go to council as I can't find it either. I could have sworn it was in the SM handbook but I checked again and it was not there. Perhaps I had seen it at SM essentials in the training material. If I do go to the Council I will certainly scan it in PDF format for others.
  5. Does anyone have a pdf document they would share of the patrol dues collection form? I can't find it on the BSA forms page. Or if you can provide a link to where it is. Thanks
  6. I've been through lots of training and have thought that many of the classroom sessions could be accomplished via on line training but training is my profession and I firmly believe in this format. Especially if your are attempting to train a mass number of people. In my professional opinion all the courses from fast start to new leader essentials could be delt with in this manner. The outdoor training will still need to be conducted in person as the skills instructions can't be done on line. However, a section on the skills can be incorporated in the content presented with demo's so that t
  7. Having both my kids in Scouts daughter and son. I can say with a great deal of experience it is far easier for the girls to sell cookies than it is for the boys to sell popcorn. Also, it is a know fact of the universe that the young the child the more sales they have. How can you say no to those cute lil Browinies and Tigers. Other fundraiser, I've herd of a Troop that ran a car wash behind a dining canopy with walls. The sign outside read topless car wash. When the drivers went in the boys were ready to wash with thier swimming trunks on. I hear the made a bundle as they were quite bu
  8. Help! The CO for our new troop provided the troop $100.00 to open a troop account and purchase some needed equipment. When we went to the local bank they are asking for IRS employer ID numbers and tax exmept status determination forms from both the State and the feds. Can anyone help me out with this stuff?
  9. That all would actually follow the Webelos advancement guidelines per the Webelos handbook which states tenure for AOL is 6 months after 10th Birthday or 6 months after completion of 4th grade. Stop penalizing boys that are a real go getters and work hard to complete 8 activity pins successfully and meet all the requirements in a year and a half. By dong they work they have proved they are ready for boy scouts. This is one reason so many stop and drop out. As a former Cubmaster I've seen this happen many times in the past 3 years. They are getting bored.
  10. Yes I was planning to have them form two patrols or 5 each and have them do everything involved meal plans, duty roster, shop etc. Just needed a good rule of thumb to figure just how much and how many chores around thier homes each boy should do as moms and dads will be financing this trip totally. Already $5.00 camp fee per boy and from the responses it seems $10.00 to $12.00 depending on what they decide to eat. Perhaps $20.00 would be a good amount to provide the parents then if the boys don't use it all they can either give it back can ask thier parents if they want to keep it in the tro
  11. Wow! Had 11 boys register with the new Troop. We had our first meeting this week and they all said it was GrrrEAT! They are looking forward to our first outing later this month a hike at our local State wildlife life conservation area approx 1000 acres to hike in. Also, the council camporee is coming up next month and the boys want to go camping for sure. Question is there a good rule to go by in figuring the cost of feed a group of 11 boys for two days? Since the troop is new and we haven't had any fundraisers yet us parents will have to foo the bill on this one so I'm looking for info on
  12. Good responses. I have read G2SS and it mentioned as doe the ten tags no flames in tents. Since these heater are no flame producers I thought I'd get some experienced information. From the G2SS and the overwelming response I can quelch this request for equipment for our new troop thanks all.

  14. Thanks to you all. Great infomation. Answere to some questions. We have a CO that chartered the troop in it's previous life. They also have a Pack. In fact, Ive been the Cubmaster for 3 years now. I have completed Scoutmaster training and the new Wood Badge course. Have committe in place. All we need is boys. I am a little concerned about mainly young boys as at roundtable teh older troops are giving me grief about having all young boys. Our DE is very supportive he has given me lots of materials from the council. He really wants the troop to be formed. We have a school rally set fo
  15. I'm looking for advice on how to restart an old troop that folded. Council and CO are of course eager to restart the troop. However there are only two second year Webs and my son who will be 10 1/2 in April and has completed everyting he needs except tenure for AOL. The De suggested we recruit from fifth graders this spring prior to thier graduating to sixth. How hard will it be with a mostly young troop?
  16. Anyone know how a campaign hat is supposed to fit? I bought one off ebay that is a 1940s vintage and is suppose to be the correct size for my head. However either is shrunk over the years or size were different in the 40's. It's a 7 1/4 and sit high on my head comes to the top of forehead. Can email me directly at smt376@wmconnect.com
