  1. Is a Scout "Physically Fit" if he can't do one bloody pull up? All the requirements says, "Do you best." I guess if zero push-ups is their best... that's really sad, but I think you can pass em if that's what you want. Really though... Zero Pushups...
  2. Roman Catholic Pope Benedict is stepping down. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/11/us-pope-resigns-idUSBRE91A0BH20130211 A Vatican spokesman said the pontiff would step down from 2 p.m. ET on February 28" I assume at that point the College of Cardinals will elect a new Pope. Soli Deo Gloria Sentinel947
  3. I read "The Two Lives of a Hero". What happened with BP's Children? What was their involvement in the movement BP started? Anybody know about BP's kids?
  4. This Scout is not motivated about Scouting. My gut instinct was to deny him advancement. However, as I review the rules, I'd think that I'd pass him. He met the requirements, the Board asked him questions. What concerns me more is that this lad is going for his Life Rank, he went to NYLT and was a SPL. By all accounts, he should be VERY enthusastic about Scouting. He also seems to have a major attitude. I don't like that. The board in my mind was out of line I think. Rather than having him appeal, and make a mess, just have him go through another Board. I applaud them for putting their f
  5. No paper trail: No Eagle. Pretty simple in my mind. This boy is not an Eagle Scout, and his mother is an idiot. Sad that a young man put in the work and won't earn the recognition, but that's his mommas fault. Yours In Scouting, Sentinel947
  6. Yup, still trying to get all the kinks worked out. Glad to have ya here. Looking forward to seeing what contributions you'll bring. Yours in Scouting, Sentinel947
  7. Thanks Mike, as a Catholic Scouter, I've been waiting for some direction from the NCCS. I'm happy with their statement.
  8. Let us take a moment to celebrate the 103rd anniversary of the BSA. With all of its successes, its great moments, and its bad moments, and its failures. Where we've been and where we have to yet to go. Here's to another 103 years, Sentinel947
  9. The most problematic thing to me is that the Private Message system does not work. Sentinel947
  10. Hal- you've gotta do what you gotta do. Most of us here wouldn't begrudge you making that decision. I know I personally struggle with the same issues. All the good we do in the BSA is getting swallowed by this membership policy controversy and it's deeply frustrating. Yours in Scouting, Sentinel
  11. Happy to have ya. Looking forward to the knowledge and experience you bring to the table! Sentinel947
  12. I am appreciative that National decided that they need to hear and listen to the voices of those INSIDE the program at least as much, if not more as those outside the program. 1.4 million names on an online petition don't carry any weight with me. 1.4 million names of people who have youth in the program or youth who have been turned away from the program (notice I said youth, not adults) carry a lot of weight. I've been a member of the Boy Scouts since 2005. Earned my Eagle in 2011. I'm a Volunteer in the Troop I grew up in, I'm a Merit Badge Counselor, and I work with the Council Nation
  13. Welcome to the Community. I'm sure we will value your Canadian Scouting insights.
  14. Wasn't every member of the BSA at one point an outsider? *I'm trying to use Humor. Just trying to be funny* I can't get the face icons to work yet.
  15. Again the BSA cannot seem to handle issues. It made it seem as if a final decision was imminent, and then kicked the can. It would have been better served to have no floated the trial ballon and done things quietly. Hopefully with a few more months to think about it they will make the best possible decision. In the meantime, they've failed to solve any of the issues at hand.
  16. Monkey tamer: your attempt at satire was pretty terrible. Satire should be funny, witty, and to the point. That giant wall of text nearly made me cross eyed. I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the religious conservatives. Why does your religious beliefs trump mine? Why does your Charter Organization get to make the determination about which leaders my unit can select? Whats interesting is from a theological perspective your post has a bit of merit. Goodness does come from within in the Catholic tradition. (I think I remember you saying you were Catholic). According to Catholicism, God
  17. http://goqnotes.com/20915/boy-scout-memo-legal-challenges-pressure-from-churches-cited-in-policy-change/ Pretty interesting read I think. I wish I could tag people like on facebook. Yours in Scouting, Sentinel947
  18. It's hard to guess how many people are lurking and learning, but never posting. Feel free to post a topic whenever you want. Overall I think we are a pretty friendly bunch, except in the Issues and Politics forum. But I'm sure you've seen all that. Nice to have ya, Sentinel947.
  19. Depends on the Scouts, some enjoy the good natured ribbing and reply with their own jokes. (I get alot of height jokes because I'm 5'4.) I think it's more appropriate with older boys and less appropriate with younger ones. Sort of like the discussion of nicknames, it has to be something that the Scout is ok with. Otherwise it's probably crossing the line into bullying.
  20. okccal: Believe it or not the Bible/Torah/Koran cannot be considered the only sources of truth or morals in our world. As a Catholic, I agree with many of the positions you outlined, but ultimately, I cannot hold you to my strict Catholic standards. I cannot hold all BSA volunteers to my religious rules and traditions. I wouldn't want to. That's freedom of choice right? The Boy Scouts is allowing freedom of choice. You are decrying freedom of choice while not realizing that same freedom of choice allows you to hold the very views you professed in your post. I thought personal freedom was the c
  21. I went to my home parish today. I sat with a very distinguished young Eagle Scout and his family, (my family does not attend Church with me anymore). The Scouts and Scouters stood up to be recognized by the entire congregation. Kind of embarrassing, kind of awesome.
  22. You just have to hit a certain post count Ltfightr. I believe it's somewhere in the 150 post count, but I don't recall exactly. Whether you are "member" or "senior member" is kind of unimportant here.
  23. Pack, they are somewhat ready. Notice you can edit every post in this thread. I just deleted my first reply in this page. The edit button is a bit hard to find. I tried to make an arrow to it, but I can't do anything fancy right now.. sorry. EDIT EDIT EDIT...
  24. Did it also cut off all but the first page of the old topics? Yours in Confusion Sentinel947
  25. "But if the my son were 13, and he a 17-y.o. gay kid joins his patrol, the two of them is going to be a BIG problem. Likewise, if I have an 11-year old in the troop and found out there was an older gay Scout in the troop, I would be greatly concerned. Not because of I fear the gay Scout seducing or abusing my son, but because I would not want my child in that sort of environment. I would feel exactly the same way if Scouting suddently accepted girls and the older boys and girls were allowed to share tents. That is not the sort of influences I would want my son exposed to." "I'd be concern
