  1. Active dad or involved dad, I do not see the difference. The guy is interested in his son being in the program. I do not see how he is a liability. He is not signing as a DL. So if you had never asked him, then no one would have ever known. I am not saying ignore everything. If you suspect that something may be wrong, then report it accordig to the YP guidelines. But be careful this is an ICY slope and it is hard to stop. Give the guy a chance. Maybe he has truly changed. If anyone says anything, tell them that he is not a registered leader and therefore his backgrond is
  2. I have heard that many troops do not wnat their boys in the OA. What we are trying to figure out is why. What do you see as the reasons why there is such a decline in the youth membership. What could the local chapters do to help improve the membership attendance.
  3. Does anyone know where I can find some of the NAYLT training materials like the booklets or the power points. Got some plans in the works and need to look over some of the stuff to come up with ideas.
  4. Eagle92 As of right now they are double booked. They had no intention of changing the date even though we discussed it. When I talked with AL again, I told him it was more than just the OA event. He said that he would try again.
  5. Yes I did plan on making a flap for the fellowship. That is something that we have doen for several years. The lodge has gone through and made the flap and an event patch. Sometimes a little different than others. So the plan is to have a flap event combo for the fall fellowship
  6. Obviously a judge did not find him such a violent person, or he would have got more than probation. I also have to say that I hope no one in this situation ever joins your pack, because branding him with your scarlet letters will turn him off of scouts all together and probably ruin the boys chances of enjoying our great organization. But then again, anyone that has EVER been arrested for anything I guess is not allowed in a lot of packs. Guess your packs have no probelm when they have to turn people away. I also guess no one believes in mistakes or paying ones dues. This man
  7. I just have to say that lady sounds stupid and obviously did NO research. I would can her if I was the editor
  8. Maybe it is so that you will have more to give away later
  9. Enjoy your small pack. YOu will probably provide a quality program for these boys and they will love it. They will tell their friends, and they will tell their friends. Before you know it you will find yourself saying, "What ever happened to my small pack" Trust me, I went through this.
  10. T2Eagle Go with the basic design for now. Make two or three of them. have an extra that is made the same as all the others that you can use to try some modifications on. That way you are not holding up the other boxes while you brain storm. Basically have a practice box.
  11. BTW guys and gals, that was really a joke.
  12. Let them know that it is too much. Like someone said, less is more. Especially if they are all in a group.
  13. Gunny, I got your PM, Mine is not working. I will try again later. This issue was brought on by someone asking him to be a DL. INstead of dancing around the subject like most parents, he was honest. Does that account for nothing. If he was never asked, no one would ever know about it. Not the CM, not the CO, not the IH. NO ONE. That is the way it should be left. The only thing you are gonna do is ruin scouting for this boy because you don't like the man for a mistake that he made, even though he has paid his dues. Lighten up folks. I guess if you really wanted to have it
  14. I have a quick question. Is there anything, written or just understood, that says that the full pocket patches with flap are mainly for NOAC. We have a large event coming up in the fall and I was wondering about this.
  15. Richard It may be out of date, but that is still the same form used in our camps.
  16. Scoutnut Actually the class that was put on was a great one. The instructor went though and explained ALL the different levels of rating, and discussed how maturity levels play into the use of games. Also how if one boy is older and allowed to play a higher rated game, and a younger one comes over, it may not be alright for the younger to play the same games. Also looking over the Pin requirements, it says that some of the requirements ask the scout to compare game systems, set up a game system, teach an adult how to play a game, and play games that teach them something to help wit
  17. Lisabob I agree with you. He would probably not win a deffimation suit. But do you really want that. And yes I hope that no where in the future is there background checks for parents. The program struggles enough as it is. I have a couple of parents in my pack that are great help. I could not survive a campout without them. Would I risk the repricussions of running a background check just because. No. With that being said, WestCoastScouter, just remember your YP training and continue on with scouting. If he does not want something brought up then let the man be. He a
  18. I have to agree with what a lot of people are saying here about looking for some 'economy' cookware. Our local dollar store have those stainless steel stock pots for around $7 - $8 each. you are looking at 8 and 10 qt (I think). YOu can also get your utensils there pretty cheap. Remember, boys are rough on some tihngs and until the boys get seasoned at cooking with the outdoor cooking you may have to replace a few things. As for the 'economy' cast iron, we have a supply store local that has cast iron skillets and DO's. They are very economic (12" DO for $13.99) Yes you have to
  19. nldscout are you willing to take the chances of being charged with defimation of character. YOu have no right to tell anyone. What if he is making it up as a way to keep from being a rgistered leader. where is your evidence that this REALLY happened other than what he has said. Now you CAN say something if you suspect there is abuse in the home. That is a YP issue. But you cannot go off of someones past. True or not, this guy did not sign a volunteer form so what ever is in his record is not to be discussed. Next thing you know, when a parent signs up their kid, there will b
  20. The belt loop is teaching responsible game choices and time managment. It is also teaching them to try a new game. I agree that there are a lot of things that are causing us to become a little farther away from the original scouting. BUt come one, I would like to see one troop that still packs and camps like those of the 1920's. there is not a scout out there that would not complain about having to carry so much equipment. I personally don't like the belt loop either, and my cubs were all like, cool, I have already got that one, I play video games all the time. Then I tell them
  21. I saw some letters that we made using wood. KInda like the wood badge. Check for that font, it may make it interesting. Leave space to add things to it. Like if you can get event stickers and stuff. Maybe have the printer add the levels of CS rank or the neckerchiefs. But also remember, let the boys decide.
  22. Not that I would really buy this for scout camping but I can just see some troop doing it somewhere. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=434974&pCatg=14081 I want one though for the games
  23. "A shovel, a rake, and several 5 gallon buckets, FULL of water, all close to hand is more like it." That is why at our council Regional Jamboree and Family Camp, part of the inspection was to have dedicated fire fighting equipment in a marked location. BTW, My Cub Scouts and their parents helped to make sure that we ACED our campsite inspection. Blue Ribbon.
  24. And if he was never approached about being a DL, no one would have ever known the difference. So I think that no one should judge him. I guess there are just some people on this forum that have so many parents and leaders to help that they can pick and choose who they want in their pack. Must be nice.
  25. Since he is not signing as a DL or any other leadership position this is a dead horse. No more discussion and let the man help out where he needs/wants to. There is nothing saying that only registered leaders can help out.
