  1. No matter how much we discuss this it will still be a theory until there is a complete fossil record found of a species in evoultion. I will not and cannot accept it until that time. I have a problem when they find fragments of a bone and skull and say that this was the bones of a early homind. I grew up in Nebraska where there are stories of the hoax played on a Evoultionist back in the 20's. I know we are known as the Cornhuskers but I think the slogan should be prove it. As for quote mining Yes I use quotes because if you put the entire book online and use it in context it tends to run
  2. Firstpusk I am sorry to disagree with you again. The quotes were used to point out that even the people who teach evoultion have doubts in it as a theory and as a law. Another one for you Huxley one of the defenders of Evoultion once was asked on a national televised debate why many scientists were quick to jump on the evoultion bandwagon and the response was " It is easy to believe in Evoultion because it denies the existence of a Creator who wants to be intimately involved in the lives of His Creation" Emphasis is mine. And the last time I looked at a Encyclopedia it was called
  3. I was just mentioning those books as a potetnial resource for people to check out. There are plenty of authors and scientists who come down on both sides of the debate. I take the stand that until we actually can prove the theory of Evoultion that is what it is a theory. I have seen to much and expiernced to much to believe that life came about because of chance. "The geological record is extremely imperfect and this fact will to a large extent explain why we do not find interminable varieties, connecting together all the extinct and existing forms of life by the finest graduated steps.
  4. The funny part about this is that more and more scientists are beginning to doubt the theory of Evoultion as a viable explanation. One book about it is Evoultion a Theory in Crisis which was written by a molecular Biologist and state that there is no support for evoultion from the viewpoint of molecular Biology. on another point I believe in adaption that as time goes by we adapt to our surrondings but if evoultion was a fact why aren't there new species sudenly popping up?
  5. I have read the article and agree with it but the thing that isn't mentioned is that many of us are not trained psychologists and we also have to balance the safety of the troop over the needs of one boy. This was a extraordinary scoutmaster who went out of his way to help this boy and I applaud him for it. The lesson I have learned is to try to get both sides of the story. If one boy hits another we talk to them both seperately and find out what happened and what caused it. If we deem it necessary we will ask parents to join us and discuss the matter. I have asked a boy to leave th
  6. I'm sorry but I am sticking to my guns on this one. The boy and the parent gotta go. I hate to give up on a boy but there are many underlying problems that the parent may have that aren't being addressed. When she teaches her kids to say a obscenity in public and laughs at it. NO way would she be allowed back at all or her son. We like to keep scouting for all boy's but I think this person would take up all the leadership attentions and force other kids to leave. If he is left in the troop he won't learn that are consequences to his actions and he has to pay them. Even with the suspension
  7. I to am a firm creationist. I used to believe in Evoultion as a younger person but after reading books on the theory of Evoultion Vs. Creation I have decided that Creation is the only way for me. Darwin on Trial by Philip Johnson is a good one to read.
  8. OGE, In ten years we have only used it once. The boy that was removed from the troop was seen by numerous leaders of both the troop and other troops hitting younger boys on a district campout. He was also caught using a knife incorrectly and throwing another kids property on a campfire. The mother had a known tendency to sue at the slightest chance and we knew it. After consulting with the Troop Committe and Charter Organization it was decided for safety reasons thaat this boy had to go. We wrote up everything in a incident report as required by our Charter Organization. That was when the
  9. Below is a sample letter thatwe used when telling a boy that he was being removed from the troop and why. Above document everything with a incident report and file it with the Charter Organization. Consult the troop committee invite one or two of them to attend these events and witness the parent's behavior. Dear (parents Name) We the troop committee after consulting with the Charter Organization and after careful consideration have decided to remove your son from the troop. The reasons for this are (list reasons)Please be aware that we will keep this information on file.
  10. WE have a similar ban on all trips with the proviso that all electronice discovered will be taken for the duration and returned afterwards. This is especially intended for road trips and camps. This even includes adults and cell phones and pagers.
  11. I think the computer merit badge needs to be seriously looked at and redone. Their also should be more requirements on installing hardware in it.
  12. As someone who is in a troop that is the only active one in our district. We dont even have a cub pack to draw from. They are all younger cubs and wont be ready to crossover in years whatwe do is... We are very active in the public eye more than normal. If there is a community event we are there helping out and recruiting. We recruit out of all our local schools we even have permission to cross districts to recruit. We even offer to pick up and drop off the boys after the meeting if they need a ride all the time observing YPP. We also have put posters up in the local hangouts and stores.
  13. The Christmas Truce is a true story but the song was Silent Night. The Germans sang one verse in German and the English troops sang the second one in English. After the verse was over both countries troops came out of the trenchs and shared with each other what they had received. This happened on Christmas eve at midnight in the First year in WWI. The NExt day after Christmas was over the fighting resumed and after high command on both sides found out about it both units were punished. As for choosing God over Country I think the best example would be the Confessing Church in Nazi German
  14. I haveto apologize upon reading some of the other threads especially the one on saluting and further investigation I realize I was in error about the uniform. It does mean to include the Boy Scouts of America. I humblt beg forgiveness
  15. Acco wrote And by the way, just because the boys do not wear their hats does not mean it is not part of the uniform, it is! Yes I know there is a offical hat. My point that I have been trying to make is that the interpertation is open to everyone. And yes some people could take it to mean a McDonald's uniform. I printed the section from the code and the handbook to point out what offical sources say. And unless Congress passes a law and includes the Boy Scout Uniform in that passage I will still ask for hats off during flag ceremonies from my troop and at camp when we ar
  16. What I was trying to say is that in my opinon the Boy Scout Uniform is not the same as a military uniform. The Boy Scout handbook says "When you are wearing your Scout Uniform with or without the hat greet the flag with a Scout Salute anytime you pass it it passes you or you see it being hoisted or lowered. Give the Scout Salute when you recite the pledge Of Allegiance to. You can take this to mean that tleaving the hat on in fuul uniform is acceptable or not. I am just stating that I was always taught and will teach to remove the hat during the Pledge because all the Boy's in my tr
  17. We do the three fingers to the brow salute to the flag with hats off and on a table. I pointed what the code sys as a refrence and to point out what the law says and why there are many intrepertations of it. I do not consider the scout uniform on par with the military uniform as we are not to be run like we are the military. This is my opinion. And I will always ask everyone to take their hat off during the pledge.
  18. As for hats on during flag ceremony offical or not. I have always been instructed and will instruct hats off during flag ceremony. Why? My Scoutmaster as a kid was ex military andhe stated only ones tokeep their hats on were the ones in the military. All others are to take there hats off as a sign of respect to the flag and for what it stands for. During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in parade all persons should face the flag, stand at atten tion and salute. A man should remove his hat and hold it with the right hand over the heart. Men withou
  19. I am overwieght due to a medical condition. But I walk two miles a day due the outdor things with my troop and still have a busy lifestyle on top of it. I don't look at my weight as a disability it is something to make me push harder to be accepted. I know from my time in the troop that there are ways to motivate boys who are overweight to meet the requirements. The life guard who does our swim test for instance is about 150 lbs overweight but he is certified lifeguard instructor and enjoys his job.
  20. We believe that the entire church building is a no hat zone including the gym fellowship hall entryway and chapel. We teach our boys and adults that to wear a hat in a church is not proper. So we take them off in all buildings including ones at camp where the rule is no hats on during meals. As for the pledge we ask Will everyone please rise for the pledge of allegiance to our flag. The scouts will salute the flag and we ask that you place your hand over heart and it is amazing everyone actually does this.
  21. In our troop how we do it is once a year we have a meeting devoted to what to pack and how to pack. We show them and have them bring gear to the meeting the week of the campout and go over it. And we have a ASM who is assigned to checking on requirements all the time and reminding the leadership of what is needed and how to get them done. All it takes is a minute in a troop committee meeting or even in PLC to remind people of what is needed. We also have a weekly tracking chart update before the meeting.
  22. My 2 cents worth. I would like to seee the pants nad shirts in a lerger size and made of material that doesn't shrink as bad as the current ones. Also more room in them as well as the shirts. How about bringing the sizing up to the Clothing stanadard so a 42 waist is a 42 waist and mnot a 40 waist. Also the shirts need to be cut larger and with more material in the bottom of the shirt so they dont pull out of pants as easy and finally a easier material that holds up better. I love the Boonie hat that is now popular but remeber having the Beret's for the troop headgear when I was a s
  23. To explain my previous post the trouble we had was just a bad feeling between us and them when they realized we were giving the water away.
  24. One thing to be aware of in seling bottled water. We have had problems with this due to the fact that A wel known locla orginzation was selling water at a parade and The Salvation Army was asked by the Parade orgainzers to provide it to parade participants. The problem was caused by the fact that The Salvation Army and the other group ended up in the same parking lot distruibiting water and the Salvation Army doesn't always mark their vehicles and my Scout Uniform shirt was hanging in the van as were also marching in the parade. They instantly assumed we were selling water instead of giving it
