  1. Some are never recognized for their talents yet in Scouting repeat recognition awards are common place. Why? My sons have done what is required and beyond for Home Repairs, Plumbing, Painting, Electricity, ... but at home where it really counts, same for Reading, Scholarship, Chemistry, and Athletics ... but at school where it really counts. No merit badges attempted. If I was a state champion in Sailing why would the merit badge matter after the fact? My $0.02
  2. @Cindy121 welcome to scouter.com. Could you elaborate on this "Magic Draft"? Is it a raffle? Will the money be put to some troop activity?
  3. Yes there are some odd things about this. Filed US District Court, Western District of Michigan. CORD is middleman buyer for the "faith based community" and not a direct food services supplier like SYSCO which camps and schools around here use. I wonder if this is a new business agreement post councils merger. That said, since CORD is a business partner with SYSCO and other food service providers, they should have considerable leverage, if the complaint true, without going to court.
  4. The federal lawsuit filed Tuesday, March 6 in Grand Rapids against Michigan Crossroads Council claims the Lansing-based scouting organization owes a food service provider approximately $90,000. CORD Inc. says it entered into a contract with Michigan Crossroads Council and the Boy Scouts of America to provide food services to summer camps, including the Gerber Scout Reservation in Muskegon County and Rota-Kiewan Scout Reservation in Kalamazoo County. Under the contract, CORD furnished, stored and prepared food from scratch, according to the lawsuit. The company fronted operating costs
  5. Congratulations @Hawkwin . I guess it's up to me to ask the politically incorrect question. Spin or no-spin? Or do girl Bobcats just cartwheel and save their Dads' backs?
  6. Have you seen this two-year old dog wearing a #61 bib around Anchorage? Hudson, one Lars Monsen's Iditarod sled dogs, went missing Saturday during preparation of the ceremonial start of the race in Downtown Anchorage. His handlers say that at around 8 a.m. on March 3, they saw that the kennel was open and Hudson was not inside. "He disappeared when we opened the rear doors of the trailer," Monsen said. "And he just took off and we haven't seen him since." He was last seen headed toward Bootlegger's Cove. His owner and police were mystified why lead dog Hudson woul

  9. An almost 5th generation Eagle Scout http://www.jayhawkcouncil.org/News/Eagle-Wood
  10. Given the BSA is 108 years old, I would think 5 generations of Eagles in a family would be the limit. I have not found 5 generations yet, though I have found other interesting combinations: 25 Eagles in 3 generations http://www.tallahasseemagazine.com/March-April-2010/A-Nest-of-Eagles/ 15 Eagles in one family https://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/news/local/outreach/caring-communities/2017/06/30/east-brunswick-family-has-landed-15-eagle-scouts-and-counting/388949001/
  11. @Podunk21 , I took a try at the topic title. I found these families with three generations of Eagle. https://www.mysanantonio.com/neighborhood/cyfair/news/article/Three-generations-of-family-are-part-of-Eagle-10880409.php http://www.summitbsa.org/three-generations-eagle-scouts-help-soar/ four generations of Eagle Scouts https://www.lds.org/church/news/four-generations-of-eagle-scouts?lang=eng http://www.ocbsa.org/news/press-releases/fourth-generation-eagle-scout/
  12. Depends on the type firearm and state as the process differs from firearm type and capacity. You can transfer (sell yourself) or consignment sell your firearm through someone or some shop which has a FFL (Federal Firearm License) who can call in the background check if required. There is a fee for this. The FFL will first ask for identification which depending on the state and firearm type may be a license to carry, firearm permit, and at the least a drivers license. Some out of state firearm transfers, e.g. pistols, must go through a FFL in your home state. In some states, you can
  13. Upwind of the latrine and between where the scouts camp and where you don't want them to go.
  14. I thought this was a very clever activity idea. https://www.omahasymphony.org/media/2605/boy-scout-day-packet-2018.pdf
  15. I stumbled upon this in wiki today and had not heard of this Scouting organization before. The Boy Scouts of the United Nations existed from 1945 through perhaps the early 1980s as the Scouting association serving the families of diplomats and staff of the United Nations, active in both Geneva and at Parkway Village in New York. The organization sponsored groups in India, Lebanon and Cyprus and had ties to the International Boy Scouts of the Canal Zone.
  16. That term is new to me too. I would recommend those who attempt to virtue signal, first take the high ground like back in the day.
  17. Bob J. Tilllerson was a scout*, a sailor who served in the U.S. Navy during and after World War Two, an outdoorsman, a scouter and scout executive, but most important he was father to three children. His son is Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who has also been involved in Scouting. He was 91. 18. Hard to understand parents who shop around for the best school, teachers, doctors, tutors, coaches ...would think Boy Scouts is the same everywhere. But when I ask, they remind me we are a national organization , wear the same uniform, same handbooks, same Oath and Law,... Well yes, but all scouting is local, too late. My $0.02
  19. Now called the next generation of Youth Protection or Youth Protection 2.0 or YPT2 or YPT-2 not to be confused with YPT-2 (circa 2015) ... registered leaders are to complete by Oct 1, 2018 . But note Adults accompanying units on activities who are present at the activity for 72 hours or more, must take YPT2. The 72 hours need not be consecutive. ( The Chicago Tribune reported that these adults , leaders or not, will also require a background checks but I have not been able to confirm. - RS) Two BSA Positions that are (still ridiculously - RS) exempt from taking YPT2 are institu
