  1. I don't suppose we could convince the rangers that if they are not getting paid they shouldn't work. So just go on home guys and let us be. Might work.
  2. Not a pet or livestock. Not a plant seeded by human agency such as crops or ornamental shrubs
  3. So I am sitting at a troop court of honor today chatting with a lovely lady about wood badge. She was a three beader. I told her I hoped to finally get around to taking it this fall. She thought it was a wonderful idea as long as I was a fox. She then explained that not only was she a fox but her uncle had been a "good 'ol fox' in the very first woodbadge, and his patrol leader was Bill Hillcourt. Her uncle? Joe Davis
  4. Any one here have ever had to apply for a Lifesaving medal or medal of merit for one of his scouts? I watched two scouts do some amazing first aid last night and have no idea how to go about getting national to award them the medals they now deserve Old Scout
  5. I met my wife to be at a camp as well. 'Spect you'll do just fine here. Pass the donuts will ya?
  6. Qwazse, I think that CP was responding to Ranman328
  7. I could send about 70 single parent, on food stamps scouts to summer camp for that much
  8. "twas only a flesh wound" In truth that was quite a wack on the head. I made it home and went right to bed and I was still a bit fuzzy this morning. Couldn't seem to add a few numbers together without a calculator and even then I kept on transposing the digits. But let me add my admiration of the young men on the team. The job they did was just outstanding! " Mad Respect" I believe is the phrase in vogue
  9. I guess if I were a scout in that troop I would get together with by buddies and offer to pay the difference in gas money. The scouters are to provide the troop leadership ( that's the PLC !) any number of possible camps. Also data on the staff, program, food,$ etc. Then the PLC makes the call. One of the main reasons that older scouts drop out in my neck of the woods is sheer boredom. Same campout sites, same summer camp. same activities. Couple that with not being able to lead the younger scouts because the adults are calling all the shots, and they just start to drift off into wha
  10. one would cover up the other anyway
  11. I cannot help but be reminded of a question from Pres. A. Lincon to his cabinet during the Civil War " if you count a sheeps tail as a leg, then how many legs does it have? Five? No. Four. No matter what you call it, a sheep tail is not a leg."
  12. Epilogue Scoutson #4 made it through his Ordeal, joined the ceremonies team, did a wonderful job doing one part in the pre, and another in the Ordeal ceremony the next year, also got two bars on his sash. The next Ordeal he did three parts. Also did a number of AoL ceremonies, and callouts. He also threw himself into his new troop, serving as QM, scribe, and TOAR. while earning Life, then Eagle, with 8 days to spare ( and they ask me why I drink! He also made it a point to attend four Eagle CoH for his buddies from his old troop, and invited the old troop to his as well. I
  13. Matt Walsh just posted a scathing rebuke to National. It's on the Blaze if anyone is interested.
  14. Two points Fred, first I was in a coed Explorer Post back in the days before Venturing and I assure you the boys were indeed boys and the girls were girls, and some of them were very much in love. At least they thought they were .A lot went on in the small hours on the night that I am sure the adults didn't know about. So yeah that worries me. I remember what it was like to be young and in love. I also remember what it was like to be young and stupid. Grown up games often have grown up consequences. Second, about 70% of scout troops are chartered by churches, my troop is one of th
  15. I am foreseeing a conversation with my troops CO going like this "So if we treat Helen Joe like a boy and something goes wrong as a direct or indirect result we could very well face a lawsuit. If we treat Helen Joe like a girl and offend her him or a parent, or some trans rights group we never heard of, we face a lawsuit anyway. If there is a local option (is there?) and we say 'No trans' we may get hit as well This is a no win situation if I ever saw one, so why should we not dump scouting as fast as we can?" Right now I can't think of a single answer. you?
  16. So everyone has to sleep in a one man tent now? Seems the safest option. What do we do when the girl who decided she was a boy changes her mind and goes back to being a girl? To Irving it's all about the $, I am betting their " weeks of debate" were mostly about the cost of legal fees and loss of corporate sponsors vs: cost of a few new COs, and drop in FOS donations from a few conservatives. Any takers?
  17. Does this set the record for the fastest wimp-out yet? It has been what ? a month?
  18. 24 cubits high by 9 cubits thick by 49 furlongs in length
  19. A thought comes to mind: if one takes a rectangular Totin' Chip card and cuts a corner off of it, it now has five corners. So the scout now has five chances to be unsafe! Repeat the process and he has six. So as the limit approaches infinity.... Campfire lawyers what say you?
  20. I have only done about half of TAHAWKS list, might be able to puzzle out some of the others. Stosh 'ol buddy you thinking of teaching a class any time soon? I didn't realize just how woefully lacking my skills were
  21. Welcome indeed, As Stosh said the water is just fine. Jump right in. (But beware of Bevahs!)
  22. Hi Tron, In our troop the SPL has a standing invitation to attend the monthly committee meetings. It has been that way for the past 5-6 years since we removed a SM who thought he was the worlds oldest PL. It may simply have been part of the backlash to his " I do everything" rule, I have never found anything written in the regs concerning this practice. In most troops I have worked with the SM is the liaison between the committee and the PLC. But it works well for us, the SPL gets to hear the give and take of the adults discussing the issues of the month, which is helpful training f
