  1. Perhaps it is my age that plays tricks on this old mind but I wonder, can we really judge a Scout or Scouter by the way one wears the uniform? Does my centennial uniform hold more weight that the one I wore with Red applets. If I chose to wear the forest green with and red beret of the Leadership Corps will I be a social outcast? What if I wore the uniform worn by an American Scout of 1910? Would that be acceptable considering there wasnt an official uniform until 1913? (There was a uniform available in the 1911 first Supply Department catalog but there was no mention of the official status by
  2. So then I could wear my pins on my neckerchief or neckerchief slide since they are "optional", according to the guide, and not a part of the offical uniform.
  3. So what happens when a district has no members on district committee except the key 2.5?
  4. Late to the party but, I think there are many units who would be a part of "the District" but have been discouraged and shut out because their opinions we contrary to the “good ole boy network†at a council level. As a result, they focus on the good of their own troop instead.
  5. Just looking for some advice. Recently an employment advisor suggested I would get more results with my resume if I left off any reference to the BSA.

  8. Years ago I had a conversation I had with a presenter at an Emergency Medical Services seminar. He noted that volunteer EMTs had lots of patches on their uniforms, EMT stickers all over their personal vehicles, and demanded respect. On the other hand volunteer Paramedics had one patch on their uniforms, no identification of any sort on their personal vehicles and commanded respect.
  9. I wanted to be a staffer, a good old staffer too! I've even had some training so I’d know what to do. But politics so old and feeble, and I can staff no more. So I won’t wear my beads when I can. Back to Troop, happy land

  11. The pins show what program it was earned for, for example, the Unit Leader Award of Merit. In theory, you could have a pin for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venture programs worn all on the same knott.
  12. After reading this thread, I going just one row AOL,Eagle, and (green and white) Key. Don't give me a pin to stick on them, I won't wear it. On the other hand, just try to pry my Eagle dad or Eagle mentor pins off my collar and there going to be a fight
  13. It is not in practice yet but is being pushed hard by a DC member and may be in place by fall. The reasoning goes something like this; it will promote District participation, will assure having enough volunteers for the events, and takes the burden off the host troop of coming up with a theme/events Personally, I think it will have the opposite effect.
  14. I can hear it now... As host of the camproee you get the oppertunity to purchase these special patches and ribbons (will only cost you this much more than the regular patch)
  15. The troop would provide the site and the manpower to run the camporee.
  16. 1970 something JLITC training (now called NYLT) It was raining when we were dropped off at the camp. It was raining when I got called up to be assigned Patrol Leader. It was raining when our Patrol arrived at our site, had to assemble the platforms, and put up our tents. It rained when we were starting a fire to cook our meals. It continued to rain for the next six days and we were in some form or fashion wet the entire time. When we were not being rained on, like in our tent, it was the attack of the killer mosquitoes. (And they thought the anti bug spray tasted great) The only ti
