I was wondering if anyone knows where i can find a Leadership in Service Award dangle for the oa. I was suppose to recieve one a couple of years ago but i guess the paper work didnt make it all the way through national (or national just lost it).

Hey man, im in the same boat, im 19 and an assistant scoutmaster. I love the program and i know that i can help the boys in my troop. The troop im from comes from a poor rural area in Missouri and a lot of these kids come from broken homes, and other bad situations in life. Because of my age they see me more as a trusted friend. Our scoutmaster is either 50 or near it and some boys see him like a father figure and sometime its also good to have a younger adult in the troop that the boys would see as a brother. Stay in there man, i know the feeling but its worth it, just wait till you see a young man join your troop then a few years later you watch him taking the eagle scout oath. its worth it and i would trade it for the world.

There is a young man in my lodge who is being nominated for the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award. I was approached by a member of my lodge asking me questions like "who makes the decision of if this person will get this award?" i told them that i am not sure but i would check around to see. I read the form and i saw that the Master of the lodge where the recipiate goes to makes the decision and sends it to the apropriate people for verification that the scouter has done what it say he has done on the form. So i guess my question is, who decides if this person will recieve this award? is it the Master of the lodge, the scout executive, or the Grand lodge Master of the persons state? thanks for your help!

They reason why i am a scouter is because i use to be a scout. I joined a local troop at age 11 in 2000 and fell in love with the program. scouting taught me many things and made me who i am today. I became a Eagle Scout in 2006 and a Vigil member of my lodge in 2007. I saw what scouting did for me and my life. When i turned 18 in march of 2007 i desided to stay in scouting and become an Assistant Scoutmaster as well as the Lodge Secretary for my lodge. I wanted to give back to this wonderful program and watch the younger kids grow in the program. i have seen to many kids fall into drugs and other things. i have lost friends to drinking and driving and i know some who are in prison. i dont want that to happen to any of the young men in the troop and i want to see these young men grow into good men. that why i am a scout.

Yeah, the new knot looks just like the Eagle Scout one that they have right now with the exception of a silver boarder. The one problem i have with the knot is that you must be a LIFE member. When i became Eagle NESA was offering a special deal, i believe it was $25 for several years, in fact my certificate says I am a member until the year 2020. But know to recieve this new knot i have to pay $180 to become a life member! sorry but its a little agitating.

I had the same problem with the troop im in. Right now im the Lodge Secretary but a few years ago i was the Chapter Cheif for my district and found out that the more you can involve your troop on a CHAPTER level, the more excited and active the kids in the troop will become. Also, you can hold an OA Promotion night where kids can ask Arrowmen about the OA. But the BEST way i have found is involved on a district scale but it will get the boys in your troop really wanting to get involved in the OA. Its some called the A.S.K. Program, it stands for Arrowmen Sharing Knowlege. Basically what it is is a Spring Camp-o-ree ran by the youth in the OA to teach basic skills and hopefully meeting all the requirments for first class. Its very excellent program that has worked well with two other chapters in the lodge, its gets the boys in your troop excited because they will want to be the ones who can do the cool ceremonies, teach the cool classes, and have the cool friends from other troops. You can also do elections and call-out ceremony that day as well.

I think it also may depend on Adults schedules too. The troop i belong to has about 13 scouts and 6 or 7 adults, however on a meeting nights and camping trips you will have 2 adults. My best friend and I "aged out" last year and decided to become ASM's but, we both go to college and work part-time and the other AMS's have full-time jobs too. So i dont think you can have to many volunteers since not everyone will be able to make it to every meeting and camp out.

Im a young scouter, i just turned 19 and i am a Eagle Scout and Vigil honor member of the O.A. I was wanting to know what others thought about "youngster" (thats what i get called by much older scouters)going through wood badge. i see people approaching older scouters about wood badge but some people say i dont need to worry about it cause i got plenty of time to do it. also im going to throw something a little off topic out there, because i am young and because i am in the OA alot of scouters dont think of me as an adult but more as a youth, at district roundtable im usally to help the OA in the back room, however im not chapter leadership im lodge level and im there to as a troop scouter not as a OA member. for over a year people still see me as a youth and some dont even realize im an assistant scoutmaster. sorry i know that last part doesnt go along with the rest of my message but i figured someone might be able to help me on both or might be able to relate the two topics. thank you.

This would be just the Blue Lodge. Im interested in hearing if any body has examples of how their local lodges help scouting.

I know that the subject of Freemasonry is a controversial subject. However i know that there are many freemasons involved in scouting. I am one of those scouters. The question i have is, how do can i get my lodge involved in scouting. In my lodge there are many people that come up and ask about my scouting experience, they even gave me a nick name because of my involvement; The Eagle. I know that there are many ties between the two organizations. I would like to get my lodge involved in scouting and i know one way is to ask them to charter new troops or to ask some to become scouters, but the problem is the one troop we have is already chartered by the Lions Club and their is no need for a new troop. Also we have many scouters involved in our troop already. Please reply if anyone has any ideals on how my lodge can help.

(i know people out there may have a problem with freemasonry, however the importance is how can we help the boys and i feel that freemason lodges can help.)

hey everyone,

So i was looking on ebay and i ran across an O.A. 50th Anniversary patch that was suppose to be sown on the O.A. sash itself. i know the rules about patches being on the sash but i also remember running across a 75th anni. patch as well (at least i think it was)so i started to wonder if anyone thinks their will be a 100th anni. coming out to put on the sash. so what does everyone think about this?

One more question.

is there a District Venturing rep. i saw something for the councel but is there like a venturing district president?

several months ago i posted a thing on here saying that in my area we were setting up a venture crew....well im glad to say we had our first meeting last night. but i do have quite a few questions. Im a OA member and im actually the lodge secretary and webmaster and will be working close with the vigil chief as well...so i guess i need to know how i can do ventureing and also do OA activities....also can my crew go to OA events...well of course i mean just the guys but is that possible? the second question i have is what is Powderhorn....i dont know anything about it. and my last is what should i work more on....my rangers award or silver...right now im 18 and in march ill be 19 so which one would be better for me to work on...seeing that i may not have time for both? thank you.

Hey everyone,

Im just a young scouter (18) who is enter the world of the adults. Right now i wear three knots on my shirt: Arrow of light, Eagle Scout, and my Religious Award. I have heard that i might be up for our District Award of Merit and if i am bestowed with that honor it would be my first Adult Knot for my shirt. Now i have heard many people say that they wont wear knots because this program are for the youth and there is no need for them. i have also heard of people just wearing the knot they earned from their youth i.e.: AoL, Eagle, and Religious award. i was wondering what people think about wearing knots and if they wear knots what one(s) are the most important to you?

I believe you can find the requirments and pay on the scouting nation website (www.scouting.org) i know some of the requirments, you must be at least 21 AND have a Bacholars Degree from a credited university, it doesnt matter what degree you have as long as its a Bacholars degree. i dont know to much about it but from what i have read there are some good benifits and the pay is ok, i think over $35,500.

so would anyone have an idea for a Lodge Officer Patch?

p.s. some lodge office in my lodge where the silver loops....its not an idea i have its already some what of a stander proceedor that might be gaining more popularity with other officers. so i wrote the message above about something that is going on already and im about to go into the lodge level.

Right now im serving as a Chapter Cheif and next year im going to be the Lodge Secretary, im also an assistant scoutmaster with my troop (Im 18). I have a little problem. i know i should probably wear silver loops for my chapter position and then going up to the Lodge level. i believe that the silver loops should be worn my lodge offices not because it shows were they are at in the scouting program but it show someone that a new scout can talk to about the oa because when they first come in they may not recongize you as someone who can help them but when they see the silver loops they might think "ok this guy is a lodge office maybe he can help me on my brotherhood". but my scoutmaster seems to think that if i dont wear red loops it might say to the boys in the troop that im "not on the same level as them". i see his point in a way. my question is: Could i wear Silver Loops on the OA stuff and Red Loops for scouting activities outside of the OA. i dont know what to say to my scoutmaster but maybe a compromise on interchanging red and silver loops would work.

I dont want to go against my scoutmaster cause i have known him for years and see him as some what of a father figure and as an assistant scoutmaster i shouldnt conflict with him instead i should be loyal and supportive. i think that the compromise would work. but i want to know the opinion of more experinced scouter. thank you

i have had a lot of my questions anwsered through this forum website. i understand that scouting is for the youth but at the same time you have to see that when scouts have questions they go and ask the adult scouter so with out this site where are the SCOUTERS suppose to go with THEIR question. i think this site is great because as a new scouter (just turned 18) i have a lot of questions and im glad that older scouters are helping me out.
