  1. I would argue that the AOL ceremony serves a purpose for all Scouts in the Pack, and should be done as part of a Pack meeting (meeting, campout, etc). Yes, it is for those that earned the award and I feel that it should be set as to provide a lasting positive memory from their last time as a Cub Scout. A celebration of a milestone in the life of a young person. If properly done, it can be used with the Cub Scouts to provide motivation and a visual that they can be successful in Cub Scouts and reach its highest honor. They also get to "see" the Boy Scouts and realize that there is mo
  2. Thanks for the tips, now I know what I am looking for. Your right, I have not seen one size 50, but I guess if I have been wanting one since I was a Scout, I can wait another year or two!
  3. I would like to purchase a red jac shirt, and everything I read is that the ones that you get off Ebay are better than the ones you can purchase. The problem is that I am confused by the many different interpretations of what size the jackets are. Does anybody have any tips to buying the jacket on Ebay, like what "size" they bought and what size they wear in "real life." I wear a 50R suit jacket, so am I looking for a 50 red wool jacket or something a bit larger to accommodate layers? Thanks for your tips.
  4. Do you guys have pics of your "transporter?"
  5. Since the award has different requirements for each rank, are Scouts allowed to earn it each year provided they fulfill the requirements each year? Does your Pack award the same pin each year that a Scout earns the award? Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.
  6. If there is a local Troop, get their help. They may be willing to help do activities or provide camping equipment to borrow, etc.
  7. We are working on bringing singing back into our Pack meetings. For the past few years "Singing in the Rain" is about all we got. We put a "songbook" on our Pack website and every month introduce a new song that they will be singing at day camp or other District and Council events like "Pink Pajamas" or "Pizza Hut."
  8. Interested to see what you are doing for this months Character Connection for Citizenship at the Pack meeting.
  9. During Scouting Week 2011 our District (possibly Council) will be conducting a Scouting for Food event. I have been asked to manage this, and will do so. I am asking for your input and suggestions for what makes a Scouting for Food event successful? My hope is that this will become an annual tradition (from what I understand, it has not been done in awhile) for our Council with all Units participating. Our plan is to distribute the Saturday starting Scout Week and pick up the food the next Saturday. I hope this is the right place to put this, and thank you for your help.
  10. Google has worked for everything that we have wanted to do, and it is free!! http://sites.google.com/site/cubscoutpack3842/
  11. At our November Pack meeting we will be conducting a tree planting for the Centennial. We purchased our tree through the Arbor Day Foundation and a tree will be planted in the Centennial Forest as part of the Boy Scout Generations Connect program. Have any of you done a tree planting and what did you do? What worked well, what did not? I am thinking that we will paint a shovel blue and let each boy shovel in some dirt. I appreciate any help and guidance.
  12. This year I am going to teach the Whittling Chip. Do you have any links to a curriculum that I could use? I remember somewhere seeing a parents permission form that I would like to use. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  13. We just switched to the Character Connections. There is not a lot, but when you have Baloos Bugle and the stuff National puts out there is plenty to get your meeting together. 15. We are starting Individual Unit Accounts this year with this round of popcorn sales. What suggestions, tips, hints do you have in executing the accounts and making sure that everything is on the up and up. Hoe do you do yours? Is it a reimbursement type account, do you write checks for the kids, how does it work where you do it? Thanks in advance for the conversation, I appreciate it.
  16. We hold one event per month, some Packs will hold two. For the individual we count activities such as Day Camp, Webelos Camp and this year the community band played a concert that was patriotic in nature and had much verbage about the Scouts and the 100th anniversary. We counted that as well. We try to make it as easy as possible for our Scouts to do it. We do this as the program is about trying to increase your Scout retention during the summer months. Even still, we had 1/3 of our Scouts earn it this year.
  17. Not sure about all that, but make sure you have two sigs required.
  18. It is the same way with the Wolf plans. I had originally planned an extra meeting in October, but after looking at the plans, I noticed that the first meeting was pretty easy as was the second. They had almost all electives. I combined the two and eliminated the extra meeting. The boys will stay on track to get their Wolf Rank at the B&G in February.
  19. My only complaint so far is that you have to repeat the Intro to Leader Specific Training with each module.
  20. In the words of an old friend of mine, "Scout away, the parents will be miserable and the Scouts will have the time of their life!"
  21. Any Scout that is currently registered may register with the local Lodge provided he was a member of the Order during his youth. There are various ways that he can do this. Provide an old membership card, provide details of his Ordeal to the Lodge Adviser, maybe his old Sash, etc.
  22. We do a program called Dine 4 Scouts. Local restaurants donate a percentage of the evenings tickets sales. In turn, Scouts in the district help bus tables, welcome people into the store, etc. We do this 3 months in the fall and 3 in the Spring.
  23. We have two ways: Our Pack website: http://sites.google.com/site/cubscoutpack3842/ Our Pack Notes email that goes out at the first of every month from the Cubmaster. At the Den level I send a Den Notes email every Sunday.
