  1. I wouldn't get all bent out of shape over it. There are others out there who probably would though.
  2. Sorry to hear of your loss. Glad you are trying to make something positive out of it.
  3. Reminds me of the first house I had built. The frames on the woodwork for the windows had gaps of 1/2 inch where the mitered cuts didn't match up......THEY LEFT IT THAT WAY......until I told them to do it over.
  4. We just ordered a bunch this year (synthetic). Fairly pricey, cost was 600 for about 25
  5. Really hard to get parents and boys to understand that boy scouting is a different program, and not another 7 years of cub scouts.
  6. Scouting already has a bullying policy in effect, it is known as the Scout Oath and the Scout Law
  7. Common sense would prevail. With the risk of ruining a trip, why would anybody in their right mind want to go running around in the outdoors without their feet protected? Duh
  8. Would be a nice dilemma to face, but I have never been one of the elite few to be considered to staff a Woodbadge course.
  9. Welcome to Boy Scouting
  10. Unfortunately, there are all kinds of individuals in scouting, some who have no clue what the scout oath or law is. I have encountered a few myself. Find a unit that gets it, and leave these sad individuals in your rearview mirror, as hard as it is to do. I have had to chair an EBOR as the advancement chairman when the scoutmaster and CC refused to sign off on the Eagle App.
  11. Have your son talk to the Merit Badge counselor he selects to work with to earn the badge. They should have a wealth of information.
  12. I guess the bottom line is find somebody new who is willing to be your new CO. Get the DE or SE to help you with the paperwork. Sounds like the new church is willing to just let you walk and keep all your assets, but you are right, with that much money involved, you will not want to keep this hanging very long.
  13. Not a great idea to swear in front of the kids, totally unacceptable to swear at them.
  14. Yes, I thought it was kind of a strange story. Drastic step, with no information.
  15. Check with your district's advancement chairman, or whoever is heading up your councils Eagle BOR and see what they say.
  16. Unfortunately, many people seem to have had bad experiences, and paint a bad picture for everybody. Having been to one Jamboree as a youth, and another as and adult, you should look forward to it, You will have a great time. I put my money where my mouth is, I am going on staff in 2017 myself.
  17. Since technically they are not "official" knots, you would have to get approval from your local SE. I asked mine, and he didn't care. His opinion was, if you've earned it , wear it.
  18. Wow......so sorry to hear the news.
  19. Sounds like a really good idea to me.
  20. My pay for 7 weeks in 1972 was 75.00
  21. I found out a long time ago, to keep up a fast pace while backpacking and not tripping over every rock and root, you have to stare at the ground in front of you, and miss everything else. Take your time and look around. I was the only person who saw the moose beside the trail on Isle Royale, everybody else just walked on by, staring at the ground in front of them.
  22. Unfortunately, I have seen my share of this nonsense too. There are many adult leaders out there who think they know all about scouting from A toZ..............if you don't believer them, just ask.......they will tell you how much they think they know. Just have the scout complete the merit badge, fill in all the paperwork, and submit it to the council......which it sounds like you've already done. All you can do at this point is wait. If your council does not give you a satisfactory answer, you can appeal to National.
  23. Very warm, and very humid. Bring baby powder for chafing issues.
