  1. In other words, the new site to be out in August 2008 is not up and operating. Anyone know why???????????????
  2. Gold Winger - I have not heard about the Trolls since I was a teenager in the 50's. Thanks for the memories!
  3. Welcome. Pull up a log and sit a spell. Would you mind sharing that cheese steak sub. I haven't had one in a long, long time.
  4. Well the VP debate just started on TV. Does it really matter in the election or was it just the networks looking for rating that made it seem so important?
  5. No real clear answer here, crv. Your COR had to sign his application also. If he came to you from outside the Troop and you had knowledge of his past behavior would you have made him an ASM? ASM have a lot to do working with the Scouts without worrying about keeping their eye on an adult.
  6. Welcome celticmusicfan! Pull up a log and join in. I am also in the land of the long leaf pine.
  7. How about going to an old fashion Ramp Feed in West (by Gosh) Virginia. You can smell them 5 miles away.
  8. Gold Winger - In our Council we cannot start selling popcorn until the United Way finish their money raising campaign. But we have units from another Council come in early and sell. Also units from another state come in an sell. No help from District or Council people with the problem. They did not like my idea of selling in the other Council or state early.
  9. Two thoughts. Have you asked the Webelos leader about becoming an ASM in your Troop? Or having him/her become your Webelos to Scout person?
  10. A large hard cider with Haggis goes great. Maybe before, during, and after is better. Good luck and enjoy.
  11. I am for training and am trained for the positions I fill. My council came out with the 100% training several years ago but when they started looking at the ScoutNet training records they were in for a big suprise. A lot of them were not trained per the computer. When backed into a corner they finally gave a figure of about 45% were trained they think. I talked to our District Training person 4 years ago and told him that if he would give the info on a persons training I would build a spreadsheet of the status of every person in the District. To date - nothing. They are now debating wh
  12. markeverett - welcome back. 31 years back my oldest son can to me the way your son did. Enjoy it. You are about to have some great times with your son.
  13. I read the article about getting boys to read. After finishing it I came away with the thought that the book(s) that have gotten boys, and girls, reading the most in the past several years was 'Harry Potter'. Nothing was mentioned about that series.
  14. It will take a little time to get things set up to work on the blue card problem. When it get resolved it will let everyone know how it came out. Thanks for all your advice. Not now but in the future the Scouts in our Council thank you also. Apache Bob
  15. wingnut - do you still have to bring in water if you are camping on Block Island? thanks
  16. I may be way out in left field but I did not think a Pack could have a swimming event for their Cubs unless a BSA lifeguard was present. If that is the case why would they need Safe Swim Defense? Should you add BSA lifeguard to your list?
  17. John-in-KC It is the policy of the Council Advancement Committee. Our District Advancement Chairman sits on the Council Advancement Committee. The District Advancement Chairman has District Scouters who go to the units to conduct the EBORs. They have all received the training in giving the proper EBORs. In their training they are told (I have not had this training) that all the blue cards for the 21 MB should be reviewed by them before giving the EBOR. Without the cards there is no review. Not that anyone would but some people have long memories. I do not want to have any youth or
  18. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Please keep them coming. I would not mind having a SM (I do have one in mind) making an issue about the blue cards with the Scouter from the District but do not want the Scout to go through getting ready for a BOR and then not having it. Can anyone come up with away to do this without a Scout being put in the middle? Thanks again.
  19. I have to say I was lucky. My wife and I had three sons. My adult Scouting started when my oldest came running out to the carport when I got home one day telling me that he wanted to join the Cub Scouts. He heard about it in school. Well, to make the story short (if a Scouter can do that), all three sons are now Eagles. I cannot remember a time when one of them wanted to quit. I was just lucky and the Pack and Troop programs were good. Thirty some odd years later I am on a Troop Committe with my oldest son the SM. Two of the boys in the Troop are my grandsons. I do like broccoli
  20. I have read everything I can find on Eagle Boards of Review. Where I am located the Council Advancement Committee has made it a policy that when a Scout comes before his Eagle Board of Review he must have in his possession all of his blue cards for Eagle. Without them the board will not be held. Is there any way around this since this is not Nationals policy but a local one?
  21. scoutldr - help me out. In order to make it to First Class a boy only needs 3 nights of camping. To make Eagle only 20 nights. Oh yes, I think that camping is one of the best things in Scouting and would want all kids to enjoy the outdoors and camp every month.
  22. Bob White - help me out. Apache Bob writes "Only a paid professional Scouter can ask for donations of money." Bob White writes "That is incorrect. Units must sell a service or product, representatives of the Council may seek donations on behalf of the local corporation for the benefit of all units." Aren't you saying the same thing as I am? Units sell. Council seek donations.
  23. Lisabob - As does PeteM, I would like to know what you and the committee worked out.
  24. Gold Winger - I always thought it came from workers in the fields getting sun burned on the neck. I do love the redneck jokes or scouter jokes.
