  1. In my district we don't call them WannaBees. We call them MeToos. Anything to increase the numbers. I know Ventures can go to 21. Why not make it 25? Then you could have the Boy Scouts go to 21. You know if you let girls in as Tigers you could really get the numbers up once the fight with the Girl Scouts was over.
  2. Welcome to the campfire. Pull up a log and sit a spell. We can always use another tarheel.
  3. Another question about recharter. Why doesn't the front page of the recharter have a spot where the insurance figures are printed? I was told it was something about insurance in the West which did not make sense.
  4. I'm just sorry to hear so many of you went to State. The Hill was the only place to be. Remember the sky is Carolina Blue.
  5. Lisabob - thanks. What I would also like to see at local, state, and the national level is each candidate explaining where the information in their ads on TV comes from. At the local and state level where I live one candidate says the state budget was balanced by her (no one else helped I guess). The other candidate states that the budget was balanced but not before 800 million dollars was borrowed to balance it. Someone (both) are using half truths. It would be great to make each person own up to what they are putting out. If that happen I think the ads in elections would be a l
  6. That is why I started this welcome. Looking like he/she was surfing and caught our wave for awhile. Guess he/she has gone on down the beach.
  7. Welcome DC CD. Glad to have you with us. Read some of you messages. Add to our knowledge about your interest in Scouting and some of your past and present positions. Thanks in advance.

  9. Have to add one more for friends and buddies to did not make it here. I remember them and miss them. Oh Wall Phillip L. Woodall Oh wall on wall of granite stone Not tomb or glory chart Reflects the pain of shattered bone And shrapnel in the heart. Mothers moan. Warriors weep. Abe and George look on Silent souls would angels keep Inside the great black stone America, America, see No shining perfect star. Your undercoat of memory Reveals an ugly scar. Remember how the warriors died In places hardly known. Remember tears that widows cried Besid
  10. You guys are talking way over my head about things I don't understand. I am glad that you understand them. Personally, I like my spam with eggs over easy, grits, biscuits and coffee.
  11. OverTrained - No,I was not allowed to download anything from ScoutNet. The Council is so afraid that some bit of data might be given to the wrong person. So I asked for and received hard copies of some of the information and just keyed it in. If I understand it correctly ADMS can receive downloads and can also uploan into ScoutNet. I could update ADMS from Troopmaster and Packmaster. I kept everything up to date for several years. When someone wants some information they just got in touch with me and I gave it to them. I kept basic info on the unit, unit leaders email and phone num
  12. Did "23 skidoo" mean more that leaving quickly?
  13. The donkeys hate the elephants. The elephants hate the elephants. Everyone hates the independents unless they come over to their side. What is going on? Is there a way to stop this nonsense? If the donkeys win the election they are going to blame the elephants for the next four years that they could not keep their donkey campaign promises because they had to pick up the elephant droppings first. If the elephants win the election they are going to blame the donkeys for the next four years that they could not keep their elephant campaign promises because they had to pick up the don
  14. Skeptic - "A safe place to land" is on my favorites list. Thanks. 1.Oh, we grow things mighty big down in Kentucky But there's nothing in that state that can compare To a cow that we once had us And the name of her was Gladys Boy, you should have seen the neighbors stop and stare. She stood 10 feet tall and had one purple eyeball It took eight of us to milk her, here is why: She had 27 spigots And the tourists all bought tickets Just to watch us milk and hear us loudly cry-y-y-y... (Chorus) Oh, pass the udder udder and I'll pass it to my brudder
  15. Packhound if you looked in the Piedmont you could find me. Here's to the land of the long leaf pine, The summer land where the sun doth shine, Where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great, Here's to "Down Home," the Old North State!
  16. Let me tell you the story Of a man named Charlie On a tragic and fateful day He put ten cents in his pocket, Kissed his wife and family Went to ride on the MTA Charlie handed in his dime At the Kendall Square Station And he changed for Jamaica Plain When he got there the conductor told him, "One more nickel." Charlie could not get off that train. Chorus: Did he ever return, No he never returned And his fate is still unlearn'd He may ride forever
  17. Welcome to the group, mob, collection of Scouts and Scouters. Pull up a log from a long leaf pine and sit a spell.
  18. Getting off track. Do you mean "The Wreck of Old 97"? The actual wreck or the song? On one cloudless morning I stood on the mountain, Just watching the smoke from below, It was coming from a tall, slim smokestack Way down on the Southern railroad. It was 97, the fastest train Ever ran the Southern line, All the freight trains and passengers take the side for 97, For she's bound to be at stations on time. They gave him his orders at Monroe, Virginia, Saying, "Stevie, you're way behind time. This is not 38, but it's Old 97, You must put her into Spencer on

  21. Of course, the first HMS Enterprise was built in Plymouth England in 1709 and sailed the Virgina coast under the command of Nicholas Smith. This topic has taught me more about Indian Guides than I ever knew. As Martha would say: "Its a good thing".
  22. OGE - I really liked Emma Peel and John Steed in the Avengers. Great group of folks. And who can forget David Niven in "Casino Royale". A classic.
  23. We got ADMS from Troop Master. It worked great and had all the features we needed, BUT no one would go in and add data to it. They wanted the info but would not take the time to put theirs in. I also started a spreadsheet of different facts about the district and its units. Up dated it as the years went by. Many people came to me to get figures. When I stepped down as DC no one wanted to keep it up to date. If the district as a whole will not make a commitment to keep it up to date it is a waste of time. And in theory you should be able to get the same information from Scout Net if
  24. Now days I try to "do very little, slowly" How's that for sticking with the topic. Or was that the Tropic of Cancer / Capricorn? Maybe both if the wind is from the Northeast in the mid morning.
