  1. Yes, I am glad of it. As for survivors, our "moving on" means reprocessing our claims for the Settlement Trustee, undergoing the scrutiny process, arguing our case if need be, and waiting many months or years for the envelope that could be wee Lilliputian size. Don't forget about us. Fortunately, we will have YP representation from tip to tail and a Youth Protection Committee perpetually at the table. There is more than a little solace in that knowledge but recompense is not unimportant to many (most?) of us.

  3. You and others have provided so much information, knowledge, and perspective on this forum. I can never thank you enough. I hope this does not come off as disingenuous but I hope so much that you and all the survivors can find peace. I do know this….your courage has protected other children from being abused in the future. Blessings to you.

  4. I appreciate that. When I first walked up to your "campfire," I would not so much have expected to hear this from many of you, three years hence. There is also comfort and appreciation in that. Some have continued to beat us about the head and shoulders, several of you have become friends. I do not regret those first weeks and months, and also learned a great deal from you and saw the compassion and concern ease then flow out of many Scouters here. Nah. Not at all. To paraphrase Mark Twain, you only know if you can trust a man by trusting him. I take your sincerity at face value and t

  5. At the BSA National Annual Meeting in Denver in 2019, attorneys representing the BSA assured the volunteers (~2,000 I believe) were told that the Chapter 11 process would be only 90 days. Off just a little. Has been a difficult time for all concerned because Scouting involves passions from all. My concerns remain for the survivors. They have more challenges as the trust works through the claims. Many survivors are of an age that years are a major issue. My prayers and concern for survivors. May the trustee find a way to process the claims expeditiously and there be enough funds that

  8. That's great news. BSA can now move forward, with new protection measures in place that should take away much of the opportunity predators previously exploited. And survivors can try to get some compensation while we are still alive.

  11. So for my first crack at "Bard" (Google's Artificial Intelligence experiment) I asked "Please write a three-paragraph essay on the importance of The Patrol Method in Scouting." It delivered this answer in less than five seconds: A few more than three paragraphs, but clearly three sections (background, bulleted benefits, conclusion). All in all, not bad.

  16. @AwakeEnergyScouter, also try contacting WOSM Asia Pacific Region, https://www.scout.org/where-we-work/regions/asia-pacific/region If I find the card of one of the representatives who I met at the World Scout Jamboree, I’ll PM you with his info. If come August, you get absolutely no where, while I’m at the next WSJ, I’ll stroll over to the Nepali troop’s campsite and let the leaders know that a stranger on the internet would like to talk to them.

  17. NBC News: Long accused of Indigenous misappropriation, Boy Scouts ask if it’s time to change In a recent email survey taken by 35,000 current and former members, the national organization asked a broad range of questions about what changes — if any — should be made to its usage and portrayal of Native American imagery, ceremonies and rituals. ...The survey’s results (from 20 questions) are not yet available but will be released publicly when they are, a spokesman for the organization said in a statement. ...Despite the range of the survey’s possible answers, the organization sa

  19. They should be a part of every roll call — be it meeting or activity. Our troop is finding it really hard to inculcate in our scouts. That’s partly because we present colors very first, and so many scouts are still drifting in. I would rather scouts have a 10-15 minute activity before gathering for colors. But, institutional inertia is harder to correct than the course of the Queen Mary.
