  1. Welcome to the forum, @Ranger55 . Sorry about the delay in your post being posted.

  2. You may well be right, but then the issue becomes: "Not vetted by CO/COR to camp with unit, but 'vetted just enough' by Council to be an MBC." So, seems to me that MBC's come in several varieties, in approximate descending order of "vettedness" to my way of thinking: 1. An MBC who is also currently a unit adult leader counseling only scouts from that unit. Currently, both CO/COR vetted by the scout's unit and Council vetted as an MBC. 2. An MBC who is also currently a unit adult leader counseling scouts from other units. Currently, both CO/COR vetted by the other unit and Co

  4. Sure, I'm kinda joking, but if, as @RichardB says, overnight is a preexistingly clearly defined word that only means a single night, then he is also saying that you can't backpack multiple days. Or at least the wording should be changed to reflect this.

  5. Let's not lose sight of the fact that the Religious Awards are NOT BSA awards. ANY young person can earn them. The Awards should be earned by the Scout within the environment of his/her family and faith leader, and should NOT be a part of the Scouting program, as I have seen some units do. Scouting is, and should remain, a non-denominational activity. BSA allows the medals and square knot to be worn on the uniform, and that should be the extent of the Unit/Council's involvement.

  7. Actually, tell the Scout to download the pdf and make the corrections himself... I have just finished round 5 of working with an Eagle candidate to get his paperwork correct. About round 2, his parent implied I could just make the corrections myself. Yes, I could, but, no, I would not... Scout will be bringing his form to the meeting tonight to get Scoutmaster and Committee Chair signatures, then he will deliver it himself to Scout office tomorrow! @qwazse is right on. You may help and guide them, but do not do it for them. BTW, a handwritten application is fin

  8. The output is a fillable PDF, so your scout can manually complete the missing data. But as @qwazse said, report the issue at the linked discssuion form which provides support for scoutbook.

  9. We had an Eagle application sent back from National because the Scout had a merit badge earned before their BSA join date (when he was a AOL/Cub Scout). His parents explained a SM/ASM told them it was OK (it was not). We had to invalidate the merit badge and resubmit his application. Luckily he had more than the minimum #, as he was 18. I would recommend waiting to ensure everything is 100%.

  10. Nothing new around here... The mindset in most units here is that, after the EBoR, the chances of National turning it down is near zero. And, if they did, there'd be appeals and corrections until the Scout received the award. So they charge forward, because (I think that they think) waiting takes the joy out of the occasion. We recognize the achievement in six ways! 1. When a Scout is Eagle Scout Service Project complete, we make a big deal out of it at a Troop meeting. 2. When a Scout is "Merit Badge Complete", we make a big deal out of it at a Troop meeting. 3.

  11. I'm not sure how other Troops handle this but we make it clear that nothing is official until we hear from National. We do not have anyone wear the patch until we have the kit from National. Now, in all my years, I haven't had a case where National rejected the Eagle app but it can happen.

  12. @lithigin, It may be considered adding to requirements if you attempt to discuss what was said in the family meeting. I would be extremely ticked off if a counselor attempted to discuss what went on at the meetings with my sons. Don't even get me started at how angry I would be if other Scouts were around for the conversation. Let me summarize what happened a similar situation I encountered regarding Requirement 6.B.2. IT CAUSED AN ARGUMENT AMONGST THOSE INVOVLED (major emphasis). The discussion led to remembering events better forgotten. Folks were accused of making up stuf

  14. I was a new Tiger DL this past October. I went down and bought the Den Leader Guidebook and put it in a 3 ring binder and even took it to a few meetings. I was sorry I wasted the money after I really looked at it. On my own I determined I could plan my meeting and conduct just using the Addendum. I wonder if who wrote the DL Guidebook has ever been around a room of 1st grade boys.
