  1. If you click on the link above, you will see that the unit's funds are owned by the Chartered Organization or by Council, depending on how the unit is chartered.

  2. No disagreement from me on that. Stated long ago, Spirit of Adventure Council was the source of the "metrics" BSA stated as the evaluation that all parts of their programs were a fit for girls the same as boys, and that there was a large interest for girls to participate. The outside consultant the BSA used to make that evaluation also lived here in MA. Girls from that Council involved in Venturing sat in focus groups. Never once did I ever hear an actual statistic, only generalities. However, all of that is now in the past. It is a reflection on the BSA today what happens today, and tro

  3. Our Pack took a big hit from 2020-2021. We lost Cubs due to transition to Scouts, and we were not able to recruit new scouts to replace them. Some families lost interest. They didn't like Zoom meets for the kids with short attention spans. Or they didn't want to meet in groups, even if we were only holding meetings outside. The Pack went from about 40 kids to 20. Then in Fall 2021 they all started coming back. All of our Lions, Tigers, and Wolves dens were new scouts. The Pack is still growing. Our Pack Committee puts real importance on having at least one monthly outing all 12-months of

  4. New to the forum (naturally, as I'm writing this..) - ADL in Cub Scouting (1 boy in Webelos 1, 1 in Tigers where I am the ADL and my wife is the DL). Followed our two through from Lions. Not new to Scouting, per se, but a little different as I was a cub and scout in the late 70s/early 80s in the UK - the era of (cubs) sweaters with badges, green caps (not ball caps..), gray shorts (or pants if you were lucky), green long socks with elasti c garters and tabs, (scouts) green shirt, tan polyester pants, green beret.. Hope to follow with the boys through cubs, at least

  5. And the SE can do whatever they want. Overrule the elected lodge officers, overrule the lodge membership voting results, move designated funds from whatever the lodge and/or chapter designated them for to the general operating fund, remove advisers who question them, etc. I would say MUCH worse.

  6. The school calendar seems to be a pretty good source for when the school year ends. By "came to us in December" I mean the dad sent us an email. They didn't show up until last weekend. They just turned in the application. By June, we are in our summer mode, which means no real meetings because everyone is on vacation for the summer. As long as the parents understand that there will not be a crossover ceremony, it's probably ok. I just can't see why you wouldn't want to hang out with Scouts your own age, rather than with a group where the oldest is in 3rd grade.

  7. Yes, many challenges. A big one ate the unprofessional professionals at National. My big concern is whether parents want a character building program or an after school program. Barry

  8. I'd avoid talking too much about who's money it is or who owns what. Getting a clean "legal" answer is not what you need and you might not like the answer. Troops work mostly on Gentleman's Agreements between groups and individuals. Most people at a charter and unit understand what that means and it works. When those agreements are violated, people get upset; relationships are broken; and, people leave both the unit and the charter (usually a church). No one wants that, usually.

  9. Congratulations, keep up the good work. Over the years I have personally witnessed and also be told of positive lifechanging experiences for both the kids and the adults in the program. For my money there is no better place to give your time than to build our future citizens. Thanaks.

  10. Yes the funds belong to the CO for the purpose of implementing scouting. That means that if someone pilfers those funds to enhance their bass boat, the church (in your case) has every right to take legal action. If it really matters to them, provide projected income and expenses and end-of-year balance, and they can add it to their financial statement. Persons wanting to more details can get trained and registered on the troop committee.

  11. And supporters of Survivors are always checking. Truly said, "Silence is not absence." One eye is always open… No matter how long the trail, or how high the passes, or how heavy the pack, we will be there.

  12. Know quite well the SE is supreme chief of the fire and can do whatever they want. But you think the SE would ask why there is $90,000+ in the OA account before making it an "FOS donation," ( or maybe it went to endowment, but nethertheless over $90K was moved out of the OA fund) And then when the LA and others question the move, they are removed from office. And when the LEC says that a "tradition" is not something they are interested in because it seems dated, the SE may want to listen and not say " We did it when I was growing up, we're going to do it here." And when 90+

  13. I do not know about other councils, but in my council the perceived attitude is you are on your own. Not only is there no support helping existing units that are struggling, but there is no support for creating a needed second girls' troop in my district. There is a lot of interest for a girls troop in one section of my district, but instead of the pros helping start the unit, instead they send them to a units 45+ minutes away one way. It doesn't work like that.
