  1. Last night prompted by this post I went to the coalition web site and viewed the two town halls for the first time that they have recorded and posted. Besides the amateurish production (even John and Doug on the lake video had better production value), the constant we have more money coming and will announce soon (but never announced), the we work hard but KR is always in his palatial estate, and the constant mumbling there is one thing which is the elephant in the room, a much not discussed conflict of interest is that when they keep saying that a yes vote is the fastest way to get money is t

  2. Same. So we don’t go to far into swapping names and addresses, maybe a mechanism to keep it on the downlow, too.

  3. This might overlap with the other attempted discussion of what we might like to see, or feel is important for improvements. Can they develop some type of background check method that can apply to those sort of "in between" adults? YP, period, and then background to include proper reference contacts? But, they do not pay for full membership, but rather a lesser fee to cover the legal clutter? Reality still applys. We need to not ignore warning signs or fall back on the good guy, well known disconnect. The two deep and no one on one with a youth are critical, and that applys to paren

  4. Every time there was an aviation (or other major) accident in the Air Force, there were two investigations...a Safety Investigation Board (SIB) and an Accident Investigation Board (AIB). The SIB is first, and looks at every detail to determine causal factors and get the word out to operators and maintainers as fast as possible to prevent the mishap from occurring again. SIB reports are not releasable to the public. (Some of them are quite grisly...photos, autopsies, cockpit recordings, etc...) Then an AIB convenes, and covers the same ground. They only get a piece of the report from t

  5. Seems to me that once again we really are stymied by our ridiculous legal system. The constant fear of law suits does not contribute to reporting things that are not absolute.

  6. I don't know about places other than Michigan but you can get a clearance letter from the State verifying no child abuse or neglect charges or convictions. And I know the state police maintain a database that some people can check, but they are really restrictive on who can access it and for what. Ugh.. it would be great if something like a hospital's M&M conference could be done on these things, but our legal system makes that sort of thing being open for public inspection horrifying to contemplate. Who would be willing to admit to a mistake when it's going to be open to

  7. Give me background on who it will go to and an address and I will gladly double that.

  8. This is one of the several black holes that exist in my ongoing review of YP and YPT. BSA won’t cough up the data or metrics specific to the history of child sexual abuse in Scouting and the full context of all abuse since the implementation and improvements. For example, I’d like to know the full story on the shower camera predator from all sides of the equation. It would help a ton in understanding his vetting, access, supervision or lack thereof, recorded dicey history, anyone ever suspect or notice odd behavior, and etc. It seems like common sense for these things to be made available to L

  9. To help everyone be clear, the $50 is every year. For some perspective, my Catholic Diocese charges $25 every couple years to cover the cost of the background check necessary to be a scouter or a CYO coach. I have no idea for either organization how much of that is paid directly to the backgrounding company, how much is calculated to be direct cost for administering and reviewing the background process, or how much is charged to overhead. But I would guess that the $25 -- $50 range is probably pretty much the cost any organization is going to have to charge to carry out a similar proces

  10. That is not reasonable for everyone. Are parents charged for attending little league practices and games?

  11. Ummm ... The words manage, direct, operate, etc are not explicitly there. What is there are words such as: "The Chartered Organization, as a duly constituted organization that serves youth, desires to use the program(s) of the BSA to further its mission respecting the youth it supports." The CO agreement says CO wants "to use the (scouting) program". By use, it means it's running the program. Further words are similar to that. Then, each leader app requires a charter org rep signature. The charter org selects the leaders and can setup the program as they want. Those unit leaders are

  12. A couple of quick updates from the docket today: The judge granted TCC's request to shorten the time notice period regarding the request to have AIS provide their claimants a single summary stating the various law firm's views. The hearing will be Dec 14. https://casedocs.omniagentsolutions.com/cmsvol2/pub_47373/9b4fd7cb-ba8a-4818-ae3d-6ca81d2e3694_7612.pdf TCC Townhall Dec 9 ... they will cover voting extension, communication between TCC/counsels, mediation update and their goals. https://casedocs.omniagentsolutions.com/cmsvol2/pub_47373/3296e7df-f694-408d-a5c2-d7a

  13. If adult registration is only $50 and it includes a background check and maybe I need to buy a T-shirt and I would be allowed to go to all of the campouts no matter how long they last, be assured that every other adult that is there has had a background, plus it includes insurance then it should be a requirement for even 1 hour at a campsite.

  14. At this pace, current projected timeframe and scale of the Settlement Trust, I’m estimating my attorney will make between $6 and, if lucky, $20 per hour on this case. (Multiple factors play into the potential for a “greater” upside.) For historical context, I think he made $7 per hour (with OT) loading UPS trucks his first year of university. That was 1979.

  15. Yes with the exception that we don't want side-effects of visiting parents to be a structured youth protection mechanism. It's too haphazard with too much variance unit-to-unit and event-to-event. Related ... G2SS explicitly says ... "All aspects of the Scouting program are open to observation by parents and leaders. The BSA does not recognize any secret organizations as part of its program" ... This might have a slight conflict with the 72 hour rule. If the parent is to be at the camp longer than 72 hours, BSA wants them registered with a background check. ... My view is ... The 72

  16. So, I've been thinking a little more about all this, and asking myself why the National Commissioner (NC) does not seem to fill the role? So, I read an article about the NC https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2021/07/13/scott-sorrels-bsas-national-commissioner-discusses-the-organizations-next-steps/?utm_source=scoutingwire&utm_campaign=swvolunteer7212021&utm_medium=email&utm_content= With particular note on the last section of the article: -------------------------------------------------------- The path ahead The leadership is in place for the BSA to step up

  17. TCC has withdrawn their request for an ombudsman for voting and agreed that no further delay is required. They are pushing the judge to require AIS law firms to submit a single coordinated letter to their clients. https://casedocs.omniagentsolutions.com/cmsvol2/pub_47373/05872c48-7a98-426a-b467-cdf731af043b_7601.pdf

  19. The first part of this paragraph is a bit unsettling. @ThenNowand other adult survivors like myself are not taking camps from kids or causing higher costs rather it was the actions of sexual predators that are the cause and the neglect of the organization to put proper controls in place in a timely manner. I do like the second part of your paragraph. The second person I told of my abuse was my teen age daughter. I wanted her to know that if something had or did happen to her not to be ashamed of it.

  20. Thank you for the laugh. There are many such bits of threads. There could be a sub forum. Anyway, I will give you my thesis. I'm doing this on my phone so be patient. The common complaint is that BSA seems to have forgotten what scouts really enjoy about scouting. Call it the core program. Or better yet, The Game. There are certainly other challenges like teaching adults, well, everything (outdoor skills, working with youth). Where this comes from, from my perspective, is what we call silos and also really poor hiring and advancement practices. Look at the top levels of leadersh

  21. Hi there, thanks for the follow up 🙂 Think about everything that has happened since ParkMan's comment in October 2019. Wow, a whole world of stuff. And well, for one thing I am now the Scoutmaster. Yes much progress in that we now have patrols. Every guy knows what patrol they are in, that's for sure. After I became SM, I made rectifying that the priority. In fact I've encountered a little bit of push back from the Scouts. They like patrols, and they value patrols, and there is some patrol spirit, no doubt. But perhaps I came on a little strong. At the July camp out, one patrol arri
