  1. With a good program, a scout builds self-esteem in a low pressure environment. Safety is everyone's job, opportunities are us, and failures are allowed to achieve goals . Not everyone can be a 4.0 student (show me a 4.0 student who explored a course where less than an A was very likely) or quarterback or even on the team, not so in scouting. Not about being perfect, about being happier with your better self. My $0.02,

  4. The judge has approved stay removals on a case by case basis. IMHO, the judge should stand firm on the October deadline unless ...hmmm ...say a plan goes out for vote before Oct 28. If voted down then.... More of the same is self-perpetuating. My $0.02,

  5. The judge took Option #2: she struck any mention of Reciprocity in the final, signed order to allow depositions. https://casedocs.omniagentsolutions.com/cmsvol2/pub_47373/e9c77a1e-c550-4aaa-8e1b-bde29deeb405_6184.pdf and she added this in her own handwriting That's reaffirming what I noted above: the insurers will simply be back in court soon/tomorrow to get depositions out of Reciprocity. This will take more time/drag things out even longer.

  6. Perhaps I'm dense or over-reading this but I've found this recent split confusing. The title says "bankruptcy" but how that connects to YP, moral vs legal, and the future of scouting seem at times connected and at others disconnected. Consider this one vote for starting a new thread after the BSA files a new plan to put things on a less confusing track.

  8. This from a Cub Scout FaceBook page..... have some interesting information for all the Kentucky Scouters in the group. All cub scouts that have Medicaid medical insurance under WellCare, they (WellCare) will pay the entire amount of the signup fee for that scout. I think one of the stipulations was that the scout has to sign up during the school night signups (that little stipulation may be lifted with all the Covid-19 stuff), I am not 100% on that, but even still. Seems like we are getting smacked in the face with fee increases and newly added fees every tim

  9. That is a tough one to crack. I think the answer lies somewhere in the high expectations for youth to actually do adventurous, grown up stuff without parental/adult supervision and leadership. I'm not a big sports person but my impression is that there isn't anywhere near so much of that. I'm speaking as a latch-key generation kid, we were pretty free range and if we wanted to do anything we had to organize it ourselves. I vividly remember my youth scout camps where we would always do a night hike - we'd leave camp at around 11pm and hike until dawn, the adults would arrange meeting spots ever

  10. There is something there. Individuality? fairness maybe, I don't know, but we had several special needs scouts, who struggled outside of scouts, excel in the troop. Barry

  11. To be clear, this is the supposed language that makes all LC assets = BSAs (the Kosnoff Theory). https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/Charter_and_Bylaws_June_2019.pdf However, a few big problems: 1) Not all local councils "included or incorporated" those provisions and told BSA National to pound sand. Remember this next time someone tells you that the LCs are mere appendages/alter egos of the National Council. 2) State laws would or could prohibit such a transfer. As the Ad Hoc Committee of Local Councils put it (in the context of a TCC proposal that would hypoth

  12. Yeo. But the council is an independent LLC. And I know for a fact numerous councils have NOT put into this bylaws the “mandatory” BSA language that once a council charter dissolves assets of the council go to national. And it not true councils are mere alter egos of BSA. Fred laid it out well. If BSA pulled their charter tomorrow the Circle Ten Council LLC would remained an incorporated entity and could, indeed would, refuse to transfer one dime to BSA.

  13. Not all council agreements have the exact same wording. Some wanted that phrase removed. Agreement wording has changed over time. Was that wording always in it? Absolutely not for any/no reason. The version I read says "The Boy Scouts of America may revoke or decline to renew council charters for failure to comply with the Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, or policies of the Boy Scouts of America, or in any instance where it deems such action advisable in the interests of Scouting." BSA's failure is not a failure by the local council. Past YP fail

  14. I think the bylaw provisions are more like a will than a contract. They can be changed at any time.

  15. I like the idea, and believe you should scope the idea first by defining the problem. What, exactly, is the problem you are trying to solve? And then explore the question as to whether Scouting is a solution to that problem. The way to have phrased your OP, it seems like you are putting the cart before the horse. That is, you have a solution (Scouting) that is looking for a problem (some sort of public health issue that can be addressed by a youth program, and the crafting of a policy to implement your personally desired solution.)

  16. If the judge is talking about it, put it in the ch11.5 thread. If the judge is not talking about it but you think it's related to ch 11, put it here. Honestly, the simplest solution is if the judge is talking about it then put it in the ch11.5 thread, if not start a different thread. Unfortunately, we've tried that for about a year and everything keeps going back to the same thread. This is a forum, not just a single thread. To paraphrase an old TV show, we have the technology The problem with jamming a whole lot of threads into one is that there are people that would rather not read eve
