  2. I have no experience with these companies, but I'd rather rent a Zoleo or Garmin Inreach Mini than a big satellite phone. https://www.skycallsatellite.com/zoleo-satellite-communicator/ https://www.outdoorsgeek.com/product/inreach-mini-rental/ They're more appropriate for backpacking and you can set them to send your location every X hours by text to someone. https://andrewskurka.com/review-zoleo-satellite-communicator-seamless-messaging/ https://andrewskurka.com/preview-garmin-inreach-mini/

  3. I want need to thank you. By speaking up here, you have put a (virtual) face on the issue. By sharing some of the stories of your abuse, you have made it feel real in ways that "numbers" can't. By opening up about the struggles you have faced as a result of the abuse, you have exposed raw truths which many of us have probably never even considered. I am terribly sorry it happened to you. But I am grateful you are here. now. at the virtual campfire. with other scouters. I have learned a lot from you. I especially want to say these things to @ThenNow. You have given me a lot to t

  5. You guys seriously meet with commissioners? Unless there are pics, gonna call that "unproven" We are in a large council and they seem to have professional staff all over the place (at least 5 in marketing and untold number in "development") On paper there seem to be Commissioners; Council, assist Council. asst to the regional manager commissioner, Commissioner colleges, commissioner meetings, etc etc. They seem to have commissioner gathering at times. In our District on the calendar there is a monthly commissioner meeting. In 40 years as a leader in 4 different councils, 5 dif

  6. Maybe for BSA version 2.0 forget the PR firm and seek leadership help, i.e., a new leadership team and Executive Board from an experienced, successful youth organization as William Boyce did in 1910. During the years 1908 and 1909, Scout troops were starting almost spontaneously in locations across the United States, before the BSA existed, but following the publication of Scouting for Boys by Sir Robert Baden-Powell. A handful of YMCA centers were hosting troops, so Edgar Robinson, a Chicago-area YMCA administrator, had an interest in helping the BSA get off the ground so that his organi

  7. Interesting. Technically, BSA no longer enjoys exclusivity. It expired May 19th while it’s extension motion is still pending. Who is in control of the plan makes a huge difference. Right now we are in a strange limbo. We’ll see what the court does this Friday.

  8. Wow, that is quite the read. Maybe it takes letters like it to move the case forward. Unfortunately, 90% of that letter is just opinionated and uneducated BS. It is obvious that he is unfamiliar with nonprofit budgets and he has never seen a detailed council statement....pages and pages for every little event etc is accounted for and budgeted annually. Councils could benefit from sharing their board minutes and financial statements with those who have an interest. If they did, then maybe units could better understand why councils love for thier troops to attend the council camp vs.

  9. I do not see anyone on this forum saying that. I see people comparing to other organizations to indicate BSA may be safer. I see comments that if BSA is closed, kids may actually be more at risk. That is not saying sex abuse is the cost of having BSA ... its the exact opposite. Now ... are these stat comparisons fair ... likely not. But I believe the clear intent is to understand how BSA's safety compares to other organizations with a clear goal of ensuring BSA is safer. I fully expect changes from this bankruptcy. I believe BSA has been too timid sometimes acting on
