  1. The Mormon Church has long thought of BSA as a subsidiary of LDS, Inc., and for good reason. The Mormon Church goes back to the beginning of BSA, actually before BSA. LDS was the very FIRST Chartering Organization. The Mormon Church folded its Pioneers scouting program into BSA in approximately 1917. It became the largest CO with over 40% of all troops. It approached scouting differently than other chartering organizations. It used its association with BSA as a way to mainstream away from its terrible public image coming out of the polygamy criminal prosecutions and near forc

  2. Interesting. Technically, BSA no longer enjoys exclusivity. It expired May 19th while it’s extension motion is still pending. Who is in control of the plan makes a huge difference. Right now we are in a strange limbo. We’ll see what the court does this Friday.

  3. Note the language 1) This could mean that the DE and commissioners will do what you did: tell the CO/COR/IH the unit is failing and why (Key-3) and work with the CO to start kicking out the Key-3. BUT since more COs couldn't care less/"We just rent them space"... 2) I suppose in an extreme case where the DE and commissioners identify the Key-3 as an issue, simply refuse to accept their application at recharter and ask for a new Key-3. Of course that's entirely theoretical and never going to happen. Or 3) The unit dies. For as heavy handed as this appears, the odds of act

  4. I need to revisit this because this has me irked so much. When I was a DE, we had one pack that had a history of losing new members before recharter, The pack was almost dead, with 5 Cubs, and I got 40+ new Cubs for them during the round up. When recharter came, they only had 8-10 rechartering. I attempted to talk to the parents of every Cub who dropped out. A lot did not return my calls or want to talk to me. Of the ones I did talk to, some were willing to try another pack. The issue was the CM, her DL husband. They were rude, obnoxious, and were running everyone away with the

  5. I appreciate your kind words. When I read this, as quoted, it is painful. Not so much for me but for our boys. I was in such a bad way after our oldest asked me to join Scouts that it combined with another event to set off a train wreck lasting 20 years. I know survivors who watch this forum who were able to stand with their kids through Scouting and see them get all the benefits and none of the horrors or downsides. My boys have paid a very dear price for my condition. So it goes. We KBO, as Winston would say.

  6. @johnsch322, welcome to the forums. Yes BSA is fighting. That’s generally what happens when someone demands more money than someone else is willing to give. It’s hard giving an opponent any benefit of the doubt. But, BSA May see the plan as forcing it to “continue” by making costs prohibitive to our most vulnerable youth, making safe camps too remote for them to attend, leading to upright volunteers unwilling to risk contributing to our nation’s youth programs. It may fear that as result, more youth will be isolated in high risk environments where the risk of abuse is far higher tha
