I think the judge has to rule on that; however, her last hearing she said the plan wasn't ready. Insurance companies just filed paperwork to delay the April 29 hearing ... it appears they are stating there must be at least 28 days for review, before a plan can be approved for a vote. Given the plan is not ready (per the judge) even now, there is no way April 29 hearing can proceed as previously stated. Note that even though the insurance companies & TCC are both stating the plan is garbage, my guess is that is likely all they agree on.

If we are going to be fair and honest about this, you're both right. I was talking about identifying kids to better protect them. That's true. But I have stated in earlier posts on other threads that my unit does reject some youth applications. We don't automatically accept every boy who asks to join our troop.

It would be a whole lot easier to solve this problem if those deciding the value of eagle understood that eagle is nothing but a tool to achieve a higher goal. "So, your resume says you're an eagle scout. Tell me some stories of how that has taught you something useful." A nice, open question. If they talk about specific skills they've been tested on that tells the value of eagle to that applicant. If they talk about taking younger scouts under their wing and helping them out, it tells a very different value. As my son told me, eagle will get you another look, but it's not worth anything if yo

I do agree. An adult saying to a youth to stay in for Eagle ... it's just hot air and too far away to have context. Our troop succeeded when the SM/SPL would talk about the troops activities and opportunities. Unspoken was the SPL and another senior scout who were wearing their full uniform, sharp and crisp. I'm absolutely sure those young kids looked up to those scouts and wanted to be like them. BSA really needs to get back to roots. Kids want to have adventures with their friends. Deliver on that promise.

I was an interviewer for an Ivy League university. From listening to the PC speak from the Admissions Office (not just professors who aren't part of the admissions process) to looking at the matriculation rate of applicants I interviewed, I'm pretty confident that Eagle rank is no longer a benefit and may in fact be a detriment in applying to these self-ascribed elite universities. It's one of the reasons I quit being an alumni interviewer.

I'm just thinking of all the small, rural UMC churches in our area who hosted units. Crumbling historic buildings and cemeteries, with small, dwindling congregations of maybe 10 to 15 elderly folks. A $10K ask would put them under. I'm sure it would be handled at a higher level, but then a lot of these congregations would likely be closed and consolidated. The only saleable asset they have would be a parsonage and once you sell that you can't really function.
