  1. Just as a reminder, what the BSA's publication actually said was: "The Boy Scouts of America stands with Black families and the Black community because we believe that Black Lives Matter." In fact the article you linked specifically states they ARE NOT supporting any political viewpoint or organization but that they stand behind the idea that existed before the organization that co-oped the phrase. Much like someone can stand behind the idea that the USA is best served as a Republic, without supporting the Republicans.

  2. You validate what should be obvious. But there will be apologists for groups that have become a masquerade for every conceivable action imaginable. The apologists will never concede the reality. You’re wasting your time. As you can see and has been the case, no amount of evidence will ever shake loose the narratives that must be maintained at all costs no matter how ridiculous to the contrary. Nothing would shaken the scales from their eyes and if thousands burned businesses and looted the acts would be conceded as wrong, but the organization still valid. The forum has outlive

  3. How are other Packs doing with recruiting so far? I personally took applications 4 new Scouts and two Den Leaders in the past month. Today, one of those Scouts Dad offered to sign up as a Den Leader. One of my existing parents offered to sign up to be a Den Leader. After a Den Meeting today, one of my existing Den Leaders gave contact information to a mother at the gas station just because he was wearing his uniform, I have 3 other Scouts via local community FB pages that want to join and I have sent them a PDF application. This is my 4th year in the Pack and I h

  5. Lawton is the southern office in the Last Frontier Council. Call the OKC office, which is the main office for the Council and ask for the Field Director because that position knows exactly who you should talk to. If they point you back to the Lawton Office, then explain your frustration. You may not be asking the right questions. Fees, while important, are not really your starting place. As John-In -KC stated, you need a charter organization and a few youth ready to join. Lone Scouts might be an option, but even then you still need to understand how the program works and that requires guidance

  6. The US Marshals Service is not "the police"; and while I know there are idiots out there advocating the elimination of every law enforcement agency, that's not what most people chanting that phrase are talking about. They are clearly talking about the local police forces they interact with on a regular basis. Not that I think "defund the police" is a reasonable idea, but misrepresenting things doesn't help anyone. I mean, considering the motivations of a crime has always been involved in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Someone who steals $100 of diapers and bab

  7. You are in Last Frontier Council’s Kickingbird District. I am the Council Training Chair and know the Field Dire for for your Service Area. Private message me your contact info and I’ll see that someone who can help you will contact you.

  8. There are two offices you can call for help. The Lawton office is the closest for you, but the OKC office will have someone who can help as well. The present situation of the program is pretty dynamic. Fees being one of the challenges. I would ask specifically for the Field Director. They are close to the program and know who should be your professional contact. Barry

  9. https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2020/06/24/answering-common-questions-about-the-bsas-commitment-to-act-against-racial-injustice/ Just as a reminder, the BSA stands with and supports Black Lives Matters. Despite the BLM speakers declaring that (law enforcement) officers should have been strangled by their umbilical cords as babies and that the speakers are ready to shoot the officers. Despite the BLM organizers endorsing the rioting and looting, since businesses have insurance to cover their loss. Despite BLM organizers justifying the looting, by calling it reparations. 10. The BSA uses a commercial company to run background checks. What they're going to pick up is things that are a public record, basically a credit report and a list of criminal convictions if any. There is almost zero chance that what you're describing exists in any data base that anyone would be able to access. Put in your application, don't worry, and hope that this becomes a weird/funny story you tell in the coming years.

  11. Agreed. Scoutbook is particularly guilty of troop-centric approvals/permissions. I'm hoping COVID-19 will spur changes to Scoutbook to allow for (perhaps even promote) Patrol-level management.

  13. I just got back from Weekend 1 on Monday (“I used to be a... I guess I still am... an Eagle...”) and am working away on writing my ticket. My weekend 2 is coming at the very beginning of October. It was.... a lot of fun... and good. And, given that I had absorbed some of the Woodbadge skepticism found some places on the internet, I went in with bit of a jaundiced eye at the start, so that’s really a rave review (think the “clearly real 4* reviews” on Amazon vs. the 5* ones that don’t ring true). I think my daughter summed up my going in skepticism in a sort of funny way — when I was de

  14. My vote: New subforum seperate from I&P which allows for more general discussion. If we are already here, why not have the ability to discuss items like this more generally amongst Scouters?
