  3. What people I've known for years who are NRA members, there's a general agreement LaPierre and his ilk were in fact misusing funds. The AG"s ideology does not change that. And of course there's precedent: the NY AG's office was able to force Trump to admit to misuse of charitable funds and forced that "charity" to shut down.

  4. Alleged, by a partisan AG, who campaigned on attacking the NRA. This is a witch hunt. But that's what progressives, populists, and all the other leftist factions do, hunt their opponents and banish them to gulags.

  5. And to whom do parents report psychological abuse or bullying of their child? The COR? "What to Do If Your Child Is Being Bullied" "If Scout leaders are not keeping your Scout safe from being bullied, contact your local Scout executive. If your Scout executive is not available, contact the Scouts First Helpline at 1-844- SCOUTS1 (1-844-726-8871)."

  7. When I stated doing scouting stuff at the district and council level, I developed a great deal of respect for the paid scouters because I observed and experienced a lot of bad acting by volunteers. The tragedy of a any volunteer organization is that volunteers with bad character are given authority positions because the organizations need volunteers to function. There is no real interview or mental testing of these folks, so you get a lot of folks in positions of authority that would never be given such responsibility anywhere else. And, even the non volunteer parents who are indirectly involv

  10. Adults often volunteer for positions to get one-up on someone else. It's sad and it's 100% wrong. Unit commissioners have no place injecting themselves into the workings of the troop they are mentoring. I would submit a complaint directly to the council leadership. ... IF IT IS AS YOU REPRESENT ... he should be removed as a commissioner. I'd argue he has the wrong attitude and he went after a scout. It's an indicator he should not be a registered scouter ... but that's up to the council. Send a direct, specific, concise statement (incident and history) and send it to the the c

  11. I know of an event a few decades ago where National made the rule, Troop refused to follow, CO got involved and told the Troop "you will follow the BSA National rule". Troop said "you can't make us" CO said no more charter. If there's one thing I've learned from David CO, Charter Orgs are in charge. Scout of one of the families involved on the former CO side was then targeted by the former SM and friends of SM for when that scout went to the Eagle Board, of which they were involved and led. Eagle Chair didn't even bother looking at the scout's project etc. Said he was in no way ev

  12. Wish the troop committee would have stopped it sooner, but glad they did stop it. I would do the following, and I will say why in a bit 1. Was about to suggest what @qwazse. Have the COR request a new UC. I would also cc the Council commissioner on the matter. AND KEEP COPIES OF THE LETTER ( emphasis) 2. I would also have the COR send a letter to the district advancement chairman, with a cc to the council advancement chairman about your concerns for the UC sitting on boards of review, especially Eagle Boards of Review. KEEP A COPY OF THAT LETTER! Just in case this "commis

  13. @John-in-KC there was a reduction in the National Council Staff by 110 positions yesterday. These are trying times, I have no desire nor inclination to join the debate or speculation here. Good people, who care about our country, our youth and the program of the BSA are no longer employed. Keep them and Scouting in your thoughts and prayers. RichardB

  14. ...Most often such character development is achieved by means of outdoor programs where scouts can be close to nature. But there are ways of learning conservation and leadership skills in an outdoor setting that do not involve camping, and that is where the Sea Scouts come in. In 1910 Lord Baden-Powell’s brother Warrington published a book in Britain about Sea Scouting. By 1912 Arthur Carey of Massachusetts used the book to establish the Sea Scouting program in the U.S. Despite an endorsement from the Secretary of the Navy, Sea Scouting in America started off slowly and

  15. Adventure patrols are difficult in nature to manage while at the same time maintaining a positive performance troop program. Rare is the adult who can achieve that kind of troop program. I only know of one SM (a mentor of mine) who managed to balance the two programs in the troop, and he has since retired. Our troop compromised by encouraging Temporary Adventure Patrols. Any scout, any age, could create a Temporary Adventure Patrol for whatever activity he wanted so long as he was the leader and recruited the members to manage it. The patrols were intended for one adventure outing and th

  16. I'd like to start by saying that I was a member of troop 45 from 1980 till 1987. I attended CBG from 1981 to 1983 and was a staff member for the summer in 1984. CBG opened in 1959 and closed after the season in 1985. I have many great memories from attending this camp. This summer I was vacationing in Wisconsin with my parents and was planning on staying in Wausau. Before I left home I went through some of my old scouting items. I found a map of CBG and the directions to the camp folded up in my field book. After I checked into the hotel I grabbed the map and a camera and headed off to f

  17. CaliGirl, I'm so sorry to hear about what your son and your family had to go through. I too have dealt with a highly corrupt Scoutmaster and Troop Committee so I definitely empathize with what you and your son have gone through. I think the real question is why does the BSA allow corrupt leaders to retain their positions as registered leaders? This seemed to be far more than just a simple misunderstanding of some kind and, based on what you shared, it appears evident that this SM did overtly lie in an attempt to cover-up his own unethical actions. Beyond shameful.

  18. Cliff, Do you know what years John attended during the 80's and what position or positions he filled? I some what remember his name but I can not put a face with it. I would like to see a web site dedicated to chin-be-goto. There could be a place for people could submit their pictures and camping experiences they had. Could have a forum board. The Order of the Arrow had to be the most memorable experience I had from a staff view. If I remember correctly, I think we had the OA tap out during the Wednesday fireball. I was the lead torch barer ever week that summer. I think there were
