  1. Yes and no. If the question is about whether or not the unit will have a uniform hat, then it is something the PLC should discuss. If the unit already allows patrol hats, then the selection of the color and style should probably be a patrol level decision. Either way, the policy of my unit would still be that individual scouts are not required to buy a uniform. That policy would still apply regardless of the question of unit versus patrol hats. Patrol leaders would be cautioned against creating any undue pressure on patrol members to buy the patrol hat.

  2. If I had a PL that wanted to do something like that I'd take the loophole you found and tell them to go for it. It shows initiative.

  3. This is right up there with can the patrol vote to have an official pencil color. Sure. Your patrol. Why not.

  4. That's a doozy of a question. My first impression would be to "go for it." But the Scoutmaster in me says to have the troop in the same color so I could spot them at large events. If I were asked I would say "sure," but wear the troop color at large events. Wearing a different hat during a troop campout or such as a show of patrol spirit would be acceptable.

  5. Sea Base also requires Auquatics or lifegaurd training for the BSA test taken before you leave. I require all adults to take the SSD and Safety Afloat training if they plan to go on an aquatic outing. No one has pushed back yet and it makes it easier for me to explain the rules.

  6. If this is a Scouting trip, then EVERYONE (emphasis), Scouts, parents, and siblings must follow Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat rules. Since everyone will be solo in a kayak or paddleboard, YES EVERYONE INCLUDING PARENTS AND SIBLINGS MUST BE CLASSIFIED AS A SWIMMER! ( bold and caps are emphasis). It does not matter whether it is a BSA outfitter or not. If your troop is putting it on you MUST follow Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/gss/toc/

  7. Over the past few years, I have been surprised/pleased and honored when folks learn my name and say' "yeah, I knew your (Mom (or) Dad). He/she were good people. I remember when...." It is said that no one really dies until no one else remembers their name. Write up the stories for your kids to remember gdad by. I hope after the tears, you can easily smile. See you on the trail.

  8. My condolences. As someone whose parents were called to the higher trail some time ago, and whose in-laws joined them recently, I can assure you that that the best way to honor the departed is to retell their stories. For my dad, who was on my troop committee and active in the VFW, it took me a while to find the best way to do that ... given that I had moved some ways from home. Eventually an opportunity came to me. I had my kids’ troop/crew “adopt“ one of the city’s larger cemeteries to decorate veterans graves with flags for Memorial Day. During that evening, I explain that I’m doing this

  11. Well, kinda. See below. Actually, this isn't changing or adding requirements. It's specifying how the test is to be administered. See below The 1st class requirement isn't "Jump in to water... swim 75yards..."; the 1st Class requirement is "Pass The BSA Swimmer Test". And while the test can be administered by a non-BSA lifeguard, the test administrator is supposed to conduct the test using BSA guidelines. The guidelines for conducting the BSA Swimming Test are very carefully laid out in the BSA publication "Aquatics Supervision No. 34346" . In fact, The "Unit Swim Classif

  12. Who controls the past, controls the future: who controls the present, controls the past… The mutability of the past is the central tenet of Ingsoc. Past events, it is argued, have no objective existence, but survive only in written records and in human memories. The past is whatever the records and the memories agree upon. And since the Party is in full control of all records, and in equally full control of the minds of its members, it follows that the past is whatever the Party chooses to make it. Orwell, 1984

  13. Yes, it is about feeling powerless, and seeing that store as someone else's wealth/power to be destroyed. If I cannot join you in your prosperity, I will destroy yours to even the playing field. Turf control to sell drugs... I think you are right here...mental illness may be the issue
