  1. How do you keep this transmission source clean between EACH person putting thier hands on it not to mention thier water that goes to the mouth?

  2. "trained" is an interesting word for Professionals these days.

  3. Over generations, some basic concepts were accepted: Program quality - outdoors, excitement, challenge, Scout planned and led - drives membership. Advancement is a result of quality program and, otherwise, a bad idea. Advancement is not a goal of Scouting. Program is to be experiential - Scouts learn and grow by doing. Scouting is not to be anything like school. I see little sign that National is committed to any of these points.

  4. I saw my council is increasing the amount of medical personnel on staff at their health lodges. Has anyone else’s council added staff to their lodges? I’m suppose to be the only health officer for a camp out of my council, and I’ve heard nothing yet about increasing the staff there. I was wondering if anyone else heard news about their camps, or if mine was one of few.

  5. I planned on it, but I wanted to see what other councils were doing before asking.

  6. Yeah, I would expect Philmont to be closed. Our governor has declared that our whole state is in this together. More than half our cases and deaths are concentrated in two counties (northwest part of the state--lots of reservation land) but she is not willing to consider different regions. Also, while eyeing a reopening that will be based on "our behavior," this week she has already chastised us for not doing what we are supposed to do, based on "data and personal observations." We are still limited to gatherings of five. If your family has more than 5 people, you can be at home together,

  7. I know that is the current plan, but I would be shocked if it went through this summer. While the curve has flattened (we are now linear growth), we haven't driving cases down. I have a team in China (not Wuhan) but when I discussed with them the USA's response their biggest shock is the travel we allow between locations. That is a big way they limited the spread. I think governors will realize this more and more and put a stop to locations that attract out of state visitors. It kills me as I think there is a risk that some of these high adventure bases may be sold off in Bankruptc

  8. There's no problem with going camping. I think we're all working on that and expecting to be able to do it fairly soon. It's pretty manageable locally in small patrol or unit groups with smart people and good protocols in place. It's traditional summer camp and regional activities that are the issue. CDC draft guidelines advise local geographic area camps only. None of the scout summer camps I know of around here are local.

  9. Someone with clean hands is going to have to stand there and fill up the individual water bottles. You can't have a hundred hands touch that spigot and it would be a waste of hand sanitizer (that no one yet seems to have) to sanitize between each use. Plus, sanitizer is really not all that effective the way most people use it. You've got to glop it on and let it sit for a minute or two before touching anything.

  10. As far as I know, there are no formal CDC guidelines yet issued for the opening of summer camps. There are draft recommendations that the CDC issued however that were intended to keep communities safe. They outline the following: - They seem to envision only day camps opening - Camps in earlier phases are limited to kids from the same local geographic area -- in the draft guidelines local appears to mean municipal - No mixing of kids or staff from high and low transmission areas - Enhanced social distancing measures in place - Large group facilities or activities clos

  11. Massachusetts here ...Has anyone thought about the lawsuits that may arise from taking a chance and opening Summer Camps ? Is your medical staff ready to get a call from a hospital that a scoutmaster or staff person is critically ill from COVID 19 ? What about all the campers etc that was in contact with that person ? Do we have trained people to clean /sanitize every item that could be touched and when touched has to be re cleaned and sanitized ? What 12 yo camper is going to wear a mask in 90 degree temps at the docks or at the shooting range..Show me an adult staffer who wan

  12. Pretty sure that rafting is sunk. No way for 7 people to social-distance in an 18' Avon. Wearing an N95 mask is a drowning hazard; and I bet that you could inhale a wet procedure mask trying to catch your breath after an unexpected cold water dunking. And buddy-rescue... Well; never-mind.

  13. Two deep on all video conferences? Patently absurd. Unless we're trying to convince our boys that someone is always out to get them. How better to create paranoia? In the post-lawsuit BSA, which is better: a) adult scout leaders who can't be trusted; or b) adults who can't be trusted, ESPECIALLY not scout leaders. If you're going to require 2 adults on every video call, you may as well require 3 adults. And record the call. And send a certified copy to Irving for review. And file for a tour permit before you schedule the call. And...

  14. I have voiced some concern over the way this has apparently become our mission. The BSA is around to protect youth. In many conversations that seems to be (in some Scouters opinion) the REASON we have Scouting and not part of what we do as Scouters. We are here to protect youth, that is the goal. Certainly important but not the end all be all. We are an organization whose mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Part of working towards that mission is YPT, as are many other pa

  15. I'm ok with considering a virtual troop meeting to be a troop meeting and requiring two adults, but I can also see how that logic could be extended to any time two Scouts are doing anything together virtually, and that would be absurd. As far for "fun dying." Group dynamics absolutely change when participants in the group change. I do not agree that 9/10 times if youth change their behavior around adults, that they were acting inappropriately. Youth have to adjust their communication styles around adults, and they will also be more wary of being contradicted or corrected by adults. Fu
