  1. Yeah, after thinking about it a bit I decided not to worry too much about the requirements. After we talked about it yesterday with all the leaders it was decided to do this on a campout next month as an afternoon activity. And to clarify... this oven works with charcoal and not solar.

  2. Some may see this as confrontation and are uncomfortable about this. Most of the Scouting Adventure should be done with other den members so maybe he missed that meeting and did his best to do what he could.Maybe you could say "Hey Mr Smith, Can you help me? I see you signed off on makng a patrol flag but Jimmy wasnt in the den meeting when we did this, turns out Tommy wasn't there either so do you have any tips on how to help Tommy get this signed off?

  3. I think you said it all. I'm not going to speak for others, but I have a good understanding of the roles of volunteers and professionals. I believe we have a mess because the professionals are not doing their roles correctly. I'm not saying this from "Us vs Them" reasoning, I just believe professionals are responsible for expectations of the program. And I believe councils have more control for the quality of their employees than volunteers (district) have control for the quality their volunteers. Barry

  4. This project is going to be 96% lining the box with foil and taping the outside of the box with foil tape. As far as the pizza goes, the most dangerous part will be opening the biscuit can that the pizza crust comes in . After that its just spreading the sauce, putting on the pepperoni slices or whatever they want and then sprinkling with cheese. I am not even sure a knife will be necessary. In all seriousness, the DL will place the charcoal in the oven and place the pizza pan for it to cook. And that step I think would be appropriate for all dens up to Bear anyway.

  5. Aside from the actual injuries that need to be attended to.... Water is the best medicine for youth, so many times they are just dehydrated Applesauce is a great treat to get things moving.....which can reduce the stomach aches Make sure the leader in camp for the unit is aware the youth has come to the health lodge, many times there may be a backstory to an "illness" No phone calls home by the Scout without consulting the leader Talk to the Scout who needs assistance as a equal, do not talk down to them and if a leader accompanies them, do not let them speak for

  6. Regardless of whether you're putting together a flier, a web site, a video, a pamphlet....whatever, remember the first commandment of effective graphic design: LESS IS MORE If it's hard to just choose a few pictures, ask your son to pick out the *ONE* most exciting picture. Then pick ONE word (or at most a short phrase). Now you've got your whole poster:...Your poster is the really cool picture of a kid rapelling down a cliff --- blown up to fill all the available space, and just the word "ADVENTURE" laid over the top of it, set in 300 point type, bolded, and made red. Now stick a sma

  7. Because you never know when you are going to find out that you are talking to Mr. Belligerent. There are a LOT of really unpleasant parents out there when you throw together the combination of questioning something they want for their kid and telling them they might have been wrong. I agree that it's the only possible answer, but that's why it's hard. My troop ended up with this with a scout working on his eagle project about a year ago. The kid was building 2 simple benches, but had a friend of the family who was a builder show up to run the project for him. Pretty much hi
