  1. Today was University of Scouting in my Council. I took two outdoor cooking classes and one of those talked a good bit about their box oven. We then had a sample of the goods. I know Tigers and especially Lions do not have any sort of cooking requirement, but... A Pack contest where each den builds a box oven. (covers the inside with foil, tapes the cracks up, figures out how to work their racks inside), then each den assembles a pizza to cook in their oven. Is there any reason why the Lions and Tigers can not participate in this?

  2. As the resident Quaker Scout Chaplain, I note with chagrin the discussion occurring about our friends the LDSs self removal from the BSA fold. What are/were their official reasons? Unofficial reasons? Does it matter? What recognition, distinction, respect for such things is appropriate? My Quaker Meeting, here in Sandy Spring MD , dates back to at least 1753, making our congregation one of, if not the oldest congregation in our county.   5. In the various councils I've belonged to, I've generally found the professional staff (above DE level) to be quite resistant to input from the field. They are either in problem admiration mode or dismissive. I fully understand that sometimes the answer is no, but open dialogue is not their strong suit. One way communication. This culture extends up to National as well. As @Eagle1993 mentioned earlier, this is a definite need for more transparency.

  6. I’m a bit surprised our new CEO hasn’t sent out any message to the scouts and volunteers yet. Does anyone know if he sent anything to councils? I’ve been through transitions of leadership many times before and in all cases the new leader would have sent something out by now. Not a major issue, just a bit odd.
