  1. Someone needs to enact a BSA by law that says no new rate increases can go into effect after August 15 or 31. Recruiting/registration usually starts with the start of the school year, so we need to know now.

  2. Plus 1 to this. The local scout camp that I attended as a youth and were my grandfather served on staff at in the 1940's was donated to the scouts sometime between 1911 and 1920. This 40 something acre camp is held in a trust by the local scout council. Around 1990 the local council became part of our neighbor council. In the mid 2000's the local council closed the camp and the speculations were that they intended to sell the property. What the new council did not know was that they did not own the property so they could not sell the property. The way the property was worded in the tr

  3. He made it clear the council will not be impacted. 😀 My DE said they know nothing more than what the council exec stated. Main point was that our camps, FOS and product sales income will not be impacted. It was the first time we did not hear “may” inserted and an idea of possible timing. However, it is only one CE at one council in one meeting. I’ll be interested if others are hearing anything similar. He also talked about the lawsuits and emphasized that BSA believes in the victims and wants them to come forward. We haven’t seen our council fee yet either, but have set

  4. Jason DiRenza, a 10 year old Scout, has loved to tinker with tools and toys, a hobby that propelled him to the national stage with an invention designed to give people more time to escape houses that are filling with deadly carbon monoxide gas. The Connecticut Safety Society honored him for the inclusion of safety, health, and environmental principles and ideologies into his invention, and he also received an award from the judges for the top invention in his judging circle Jason said he got the idea for his invention over lunch one day with his family when a discussion came up ab

  6. Instead of sewing, it could simply be self-sufficiency. It would include very basic sewing, doing laundry, generic home upkeep such as floor cleanliness to include mopping and vacuuming, and other every day or week needs for living on your own.

  8. Agreed. Yes sir, I agree....and have tried for 3 years. The troop is 40 scouts strong now, to much for 1 person to handle. If I see a struggle in one section of the troop, I will do what I can to assist, to make it better. A solid relationship and effective communication is something that I will remain hopeful for but at the end of the day it’s all about the scouts. Part of the root problem is that 15 of the scouts came from my wife’s and I pack and the rest from SM pack, so I feel an obligation to them. SM and CC are married. Both good people and handle thei

  10. You make allowances where allowances are called for just like rank advancement in a troop. We had a young man with cerebral palsy confined to a wheelchair who earned the Vigil Honor. What kind of work did he do that got noticed and got him nominated? His father pushed his chair to the beginning of the serving line at the dining hall where he held the box of hand wipes for people to clean their hands. Every meal at every event, without fail. Outstanding service depends on one's abilities. If a young man who has memory issues wants to seal his Brotherhood, by all means encourage him.

  11. Good luck ! I do want to make a comment on ... "The communication block between SM and other leaders would be very nice and make everything so much easier but it is not needed if the scouts are empowered." I hugely disagree. There is nothing worse in a troop than mixed messages from different leaders. All adults in the troop need to be on-board with the SM vision, especially the ASMs. If you want to help "empower" the scouts, work with the SM and make sure he understands, agrees and shows some "buy-in". This may not be your situation, but I've seen adults clash and future p

  12. Just heard that we will find out by December at recharter time if council fees, insurance and national fees are changing for 2020. Excuse my language but: How in the fudge are we able to budget responsibly for this and set fees for this upcoming year?
