  1. Good grief! This just seems insane to me. Please stop playing lawyer ball.

  2. Given that the article doesn't explain what happened it's really hard for me to decide anything about this. Was it a slingshot or was it a trebuchet? Is the scout now blind in one eye or is it just a scar? Was the scout running around out in front of the "makeshift slingshot" or was he trying to launch the potato? To be honest, I'd be careful about launching anything that could do damage if someone stood 10 feet away and threw it at someone's head. But I don't really know what happened. We made a trebuchet that would launch a 4 lb cabbage 100 yards. The forces involved were impressive. We

  3. No, to much like GSUSA. One of the loudest complaints I hear from old Girl Scouts is that they don't have a uniform and the only way to tell someone is a Girl Scout is by the cookies.Besides red has never been associated with Cubs, only Explorers up to 1980, and Boy Scouts from 1980 - 2009. The blue uniform has a long history, and easily identifies someone as a Cub Scout. BADGE MAGIC IS EVIL! I hate the stuff, and have seen too many shirts ruined.

  4. I'm with @qwazse on this. By your own acknowledgement, you've done everything you can think of. You're at decision time. Figure out some concrete steps that will result in either you becoming Scoutmaster or leaving.

  5. @mds3d, good Unit Commissioners ... for some leaders, that's a contradiction in terms. I bet that's the cases with this SM. He is taking advantage of indecisive leadership on the COR's part. I'm betting a good UC won't even waste the coffee on this one. I have seen this in other venues. But unlike those, the fixed tenure of the youth comes to the fore. If you and your ASMs are "all that", start talking to a new CO ASAP. Let the COR know that he either makes his move next week our you all will make yours. Your DE will be tickled pink about the prospect of starting a new unit.

  6. Leave. This will go from being a passion to being day job WORK. We do this because we love it. If it’s unlovable, don’t let it suck the juices out of you.

  7. https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/Outdoor Program/pdf/30931_WB.pdf It's on pgs. 99-101 but don't read it. Doing so will only bring sorrow.

  8. So just an observation, the youth would not have been permitted to participate in any BSA High Adventure base due to not meeting the Height/Weight restrictions

  9. Just a general point: I go with what the scout records in his log, regardless of if it is in troopmaster. This does mean that a scout may have an event as one of his ten that his buddy who also participated does not. If a scout asks for a calendar of events, that's fine, otherwise adults should not be auto-filling requirements. I find that mindfulness is an important tool for the scout to have.

  10. Here is the ceremony from our chapter. Since the ceremony is performed in public, I see no need to post in the safeguarded area. I hope this helps: Broken Arrow Ceremony Introduction: This ceremony is a final tribute to a deceased Arrowman who served others cheerfully and embodied the Scout Oath and Scout Law in his daily life. At the request, or with the consent, of the deceased’s family, it is performed at the wake or funeral home. The Lodge and/or Chapter Advisor, Chief, and acting Allowat Sakima and Meteu should offer appropriate condole
