  2. I would entirely agree with this article if "acting aggressive" and encouraging stoicism weren't lumped in with pornography, catcalling, and sexual assault.

  3. So the Scout attended 30-ish minutes of the campout due to the Scoutmaster's SMC policy for higher ranks. SMH.

  4. FWIW, I took mine yesterday and have to disagree with Carebear the DE and some others. I thought it was excellent. Well presented, flowed well, and a little long, but there was a lot of material. While watching, I tried to think of comparisons with other youth serving organizations programs (not church sponsored programs). Who has one that is anything even comparable? 4-H, YMCA, YWCA, Campfire, GSUSA? Sorry, I think the BSA still is setting the standard for quality in this arena. Lastly, I wish all parents could take this. It is really sad to see kids being abused today in situations t

  5. To be fair, I lived in Blake's Jerusalem long enough to cook Christmas dinner and hear the Queen's address.

  6. “For some men, they think if they’re not raping anyone, that’s enough. But we’ve seen that it’s not. We need to train men on healthy masculinity at a young age” https://www.thedailybeast.com/metoo-is-making-colleges-teach-toxic-masculinity-101?ref=scroll They've already neutered the Boy Scouts, so why not?

  8. What you really want is drinkable alcohol. Denatured alcohol is just natural alcohol, or ethyl alcohol, with poison added. So, Everclear at 190 proof. The last 5% is just water. If you spill it in your pack just open it up and let it dry. The big problem is buying it. First, it's expensive. Second, I'm not sure it's scout appropriate. I did use it on a backpacking trip once. I did not tell the scouts what it was.

  9. For what it's worth. Our troop is currently at 85 scouts. We have no bylaws and very few process documents. Really all that we do that is different is that our adults team is more structured than a smaller troop. For example - we have a leader who just schedules boards of review. He knows which boys are probably going to need one each week and can work with the parents to have enough representation. We don't have shenanigans at our BOR because the leader who organizes them knows his stuff. We don't have problems getting a board together because our adults know they'll be needed. We

  10. I suspect all the training folks I've worked with over the years would absolutely agree with this statement. What they and I don't agree with is National mandating training and the Council's turning that mandate into a revenue stream.

  12. Feedback in our unit is the new YPT seems a bit overkill and heavy handed. Seems less the like old one..how to be compliant and adhere to YPT, and has now morphed into selling me that child exploitation is bad, we are likely all on board with that idea. Also children are in danger, predators abound, be fearful, be watchful, be vigilant Wonder how this will play with new leaders, hope it doesn't scare any off

  13. If you do not attend a church, you could use a parent. My Scouts commonly use the troop chaplain. I used the facilitator that led the classes for my youth religious medal program in Scouts.

  14. For hand sewing, do not attempt to push through the entire patch. Instead "catch" a bit of the border only. Imagine sewing "from behind", and as the needle pushes through the shirt fabric, loop it under and through a few threads on the backside of the patch border. this also has the benefit of completely hiding the stiching behind the patch. I guess my method has a real name. Thanks HT.
