  1. I have a background in fashion design and patternmaking. Can I tell you.... there is nothing more aggravating than BSA uniforms - particularly the fit of the pants. Is this my opportunity to rant a little? First, though, I hate that new shirt. It's odd-looking and a side opening on a pocket is not a great idea. I don't like the placket over the buttons. It may look 'cleaner', but it makes fastening and unfastening the buttons harder. The pocket on the pants looks too high, and I'd miss having the depth that the current cargo pockets have. Unlike with other pants, I actually carry

  2. Progressives don't "hate what the BSA stood for." I'm what you might call a "progressive", and I love the BSA, always have, always will. I also don't agree that "we've sacrificed the quality of Eagle, which used to be the standard for Excellence." I think it still is a standard of excellence. And last I checked, duty to god was still part of the program at all levels, so your idea that "we've given up on God", I'm in strong disagreement with that as well. Not much else to say, I just find those comments of yours extremely disagreeable.

  3. Vertical zip shirt front pockets...are females really going to carry a topo map and a couple cliff bars in those particular pockets? The entire effort seems over-engineered and stylistically odd. Definitely look forward to hearing what women have to say about it. I'll ask my Venturing daughter what she thinks. My initial hunch: girls are going to just buy a boy's shirt, a size or two larger, and go with that.

  4. IMO, if there is "no gender" in Scouting, USA then the uniform - shirts and pants style should be the same for all.

  5. Not sure this qualifies as "back in the day", but I loved Scouting back in my day, 1986-1998.

  6. Dont forget your Boy Scouts goes to 18 where as ours goes to 14. So to make a direct comparison you need to include our explorers which runs 14-18 latest numbers (as at 31 Jan 2018) were released last week. Total across all ages now up to 638K. I've not seen a breakdown by age group though.

  7. “There is no religious side to the Movement. The whole of it is based on religion, that is, on the realization and service of God.” Lord Robert Baden-Powell, November 1920

  8. How did it unravel so quickly? This moving video was produced just five years ago to celebrate the 100 year partnership between LDS and BSA.

  9. Is it just me or are those shirts really just the same shirt, they appear to just have additional pockets on top of pockets. I want to see the shirts with the typical display of patches in the correct proposed locations. Put some bling on them and then use an anatomical manikin so we can see what they will actually look like on a Scout. Or better yet, make a National Executive SEW the badges on and then get some Venture girls to model them and give feed back. Also I spoke with some friends that have strict religious / moral standards and the skorts do not make the cut.

  10. Shirts are hideous. Skirts are not practical in the field, so I don't know why they are event making them for a "FIELD uniform" (caps for emphasis) And what's up with the red? And what is up with the tabs on the p[ants? Forgot to add, is it me, are does the pockets on the pants look like they should be on the backside and not the front.

  11. I think at the unit level you have to provide program that meets the different needs You can all go on the outing, but they each can have the opportunity to participate as they need Older scouts may camp apart a bit Also with HS schedules they may want to crash in the afternoon. We go to the lake and do tubing, older scouts may get a rougher ride We go backpacking and look for loop options Younger less experience do a 4 mile while older guys do a 9 mile . Also do high adventure every summer in addition to camps to keep older scouts engaged Last point is understand you may not see

  12. I always thought the soul of the program was the volunteers at the unit and district level that made it work either because of or despite National and Council priorities and despite any political differences that volunteers may have with one another. If the program has truly lost its soul, then that's a sad reflection on us, not on BSA corporate. People can claim that it was the BSA that left them, not the other way around, all they want but the fact is the BSA has made many changes over its existence and has marched ahead because of the volunteers who refused to take their ball and go h
