    • Ok. Wow. Above my pay grade as a volunteer. 
    • I have to agree with @MattR, at least based on what I've read so far.  The issue here is money, and only money.  There is nothing about this controversy that provides any reason or incentive to change the basic organizational structure, policies, or programs of the Boy Scouts of America.  Some properties may be sold, some councils consolidated, we'll have further declines in membership -- in other words, the status quo.  It is exactly what has already been happening in BSA for a long time.  Considering the upheaval of the last seven years, there is and will be a strong appetite for trying to achieve as much "normalcy" as possible.  After all, we've only just opened the doors to girls in Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting. We haven't even felt the hit from the loss of the LDS folks yet.  There is a lot of smoke to clear without the bankruptcy thing.  And what I see happening is that the bankruptcy is going to be something that barely registers in day-to-day Scouting.  If there is a reduction in council services, most members and families will hardly notice.  
    • Our Council made it very clear in a letter sent out today that their assets are entirely separate from National. 

      I suppose any Council could also be named in a suit, but each Council is its own legal and financial entity, and not financially responsible for the actions of Scouters in other councils.

What is the size of the victim's fund?  $408M of HA bases is going to be the juicy target.    
    • I'm so frustrated right now. There are only two female Troops in our city. Most of the Webelos girls are choosing the other one. I suspect they have a more put-together look and feel compared to our Troop, as theirs is entirely adult-run and ours is run by a bunch of novice Scouts who have not been at this Scouting thing very long.  We have a great group of girls, but they are learning as they go and, within reason, we let them make a fair number of mistakes along the way (and they are doing AWESOME at learning and doing better each time). I'm very happy with our Troop and I'm excited to cross my own daughter over into it next year. But in the meantime, I am at a loss as to how to adequately convey the value of a youth-run Troop over a possibly sleeker, more well-oiled adult-run Troop.  Ideas?
